Whitney Houston Returns to the Big Screen in ‘Sparkle’ Remake

Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks

Whitney Houston is making a sparkling comeback to the big screen. The legendary diva is executive producing and starring alongside Jordin Sparks in a remake of the 1976 Motown-era film Sparkle. “ET” went on set with Houston for her first big-screen role since The Preacher’s Wife in 1996.

“I got a call from my partner Debra Martin and she said, ‘You’re not gonna believe this, but Sparkle‘s been picked up and they want to do a film.’ And I was like, you’re kidding,” said the 48-year-old singer-actress.

She explained why the “American Idol” winner was perfect to play the role of her musical daughter. “She speaks for herself—the face, the smile, the innocence, the love for music, the love for singing,” said Whitney of her 21-year-old co-star. “Her personality just being Jordin and transferring that to Sparkle, it was not a hard transition.”

Sparks picked up some pointers from her on-screen mother. “I listened to her and I watched her and for her to be standing here and just telling me different things, I definitely want to take it to heart ’cause she’s been through so much—highs, lows, ups, downs, successes, different things like that—and it’s just so amazing to stand here and she’s still doing it.”

@Minajisthebest, Okay you definitely step ya cooch DOWN BASEMENT, because even nicki herself hails to whitney houston, she is a queen of singing and a joy to see in movies. We should be filled with a warm delight that whitney has come out of her dark days and back into the light. A movie maybe another album. Welcome back whitely

I like Whitney Houston but I want her to be in a movie where she does not sing. I want her to strictly act, but I will be looking forward to this movie. I do however feel like the are putting on a show for this interview…. it does not feel real to me…. “Omg yeah!”….. I don’t know… SMH

No one …and I mean really No one that I know needs a musical whitney comeback! She needs to stop. The voice is gone and there is so many great women out there that have amazing voices…Chante Moore, Deborah Cox, Shanice, and so many others deserve a comeback waaaay more than Whitney!

@Fa, Stop hating. Guess what she is the executive producer of the movie. why others deserve a comeback way more than Whitney. As they say “Favor is not Fair” and there is nothing you can do about it and Whitney will put to rest all haters like you.

@wondershallnevercease, im not hating. experience shows that a comeback is not successful for everyone. she should tak care of her health and rehab. focus on her issues and she has no reason to rush. her legacy will speak for itself far after she dies!her last album was a vocal mess, overtuned and edited to death! this was below her!

@Fa, you are absolutely correct, i simply adore whitney houston , and she will forever be one of my favorite singers, i’ve been watching her from her begennings from singing background with her mother at SWEETWATERS in Nyc back in the mid 80′s. However you are correct in regards to other singers like , SHANICE, DEBRA COX , AND CHANTE MOORE , WHO MUSIC I STILL PURCHASE , AND NONE OF THOSE LADIES NEVER , EVER RECIEVED THERE PROPS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.
