Jay-Z Talks Kanye West, His Late Father, and Baby Carter with GQ

Jay-Z

Jay-Z has been crowned “King of the Year” by GQ in the magazine’s annual “Men of the Year” issue, sharing the cover with Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon, and Mila Kunis, among others. The dad-to-be opens up about his love for art, dealing with Kanye West’s perfectionism while working on Watch the Throne, the emotional scars left by his “superhero” father, and whether he’ll be putting a car seat in the Maybach.

On Kanye’s obsession with perfection: “I think he just can’t help himself. He puts so much into everything, and he’s like, ‘You have to treat it like I treat it.’ It drives you crazy sometimes—like when you’ve put seventy-five versions of a snare on one song and he’s like, ‘No!’ and you’re like, ‘Come on, man.’”
On the concept of “Ni**as in Paris”: “It’s not, like, ‘We’re here! We’re balling harder than everybody. It’s like, ‘I’m shocked that we’re here.’ Still being amazed, still not being jaded. Having so much fun and then stopping and saying, ‘What are we doing here? How did we get here?’”
On announcing his child at the VMAs: “It was actually Bey who wanted to [announce] it. You want to be in control of your life.”
On his relationship with his late father: “If your dad died before you were born, yeah, it hurts—but it’s not like you had a connection with something that was real. Not to say it’s any better—but to have that connection and then have it ripped away was, like, the worst. My dad was such a good dad that when he left, he left a huge scar. He was my superhero.”
On whether he’ll play his music for his child: “There will be a lot of that. And a lot of other records, all pivotal, important records. There’ll be Ready to Die, there’ll be Illmatic.”
On changing diapers: “Of course, of course. One hundred percent.”
On putting a car seat in the Maybach: “Yeah. Wouldn’t that be great? That would be a great picture.”

@London In The House !, Probably more the culture changing than anything.. The gangster image isn’t really selling like it did but I don’t know how that makes him “white”

@King Dro, I don’t see it either. I don’t see anything wrong with rapping intelligently and not just talkin about blunts and cars. He talk about money and his outlook on life from another point in his career. Be proud or be left behind.

@London In The House !, So Hov a sellout cause he chose to be wise ?

Read these lyrics to Why I love You ..

“Same people that I fought for
That I fight for, that I ride for
That I live for, that I die for
Be the reason that these niggas is alive for
    and they want me dead
But I’m so sorry but I just can’t die for you
But I can make em put their hands in the sky for you
We waiting for the fireworks like July 4th
Get fly more, get high more, cry boy, why for?
When the grief is over, beef is over, I’ll be fly when Easter’s over
I tried to teach niggas how to be kings
And all they ever wanted to be was soldiers
So the love is gone, Til blood is drawn
So we no longer wear the same uniform
Fuck you squares, The circle got smaller
The castle got bigger, The walls got taller
And truth be told after all that said
Niggas still got love for you”

    :) Bitch byee !

This such a great cover of him. His music is gonna live for generations to come and his name will be engraved in the minds of all whether musically or business wise but just talking about his father and his child you know the dim past and the brightest future is just a moment in time to enjoy. I love it. HOV
