Busta Rhymes Calls Cash Money Signing a ‘Golden Moment for Hip-Hop’

Busta Rhymes is making power moves. A day after dropping his new single “Why Stop Now” with Chris Brown, the fast-paced spitter has officially confirmed his signing to Cash Money Records. He joined Birdman in a video to announce that he is the newest member of the YMCMB family.

“This whole experience that’s getting ready to happen is probably going to be one of the most defining moments in hip-hop and probably in entertainment overall,” said Busta. “This alliance with the Conglomerate and YMCMB and me and Bird and Wayne, the whole family, is something that’s been a long time coming because we just always had a respect level and a genuine friendship for a very long time.”

His relationship with Birdman began 10-12 years ago when they bought pricey whips to compete in car shows. “It’s something that’s been brewing for a long time and now people gon’ really get to see it come to fruition in a whole ‘nother kind of way,” he added. “This is a golden moment personally and I think it’s a golden moment for hip-hop.”

The Cash Money CEO explained the decision behind the signing. “You legendary,” Baby told Busta. “But what we have to do today ain’t got nothing to do with what you did yesterday. I’m looking at the new music. The talent always been there. … I’m looking for big moves, big things all the time, every time.”

Busta you are a legend. You should be starting your own record label and being your own boss. This is a step back and it kind of look desperate.

@Redchainsaw, Someone is oblivious to what is going on in the industry. After this week, YMCMB will have 2 of the 3 highest first week sales in 2011.

@Sportz, But yet the 2nd week sales decrease by 70-80%

@Redchainsaw, #cosign … I hope Busta didn’t sign a slave contract like Baby had Wayne to sign and Wayne subsequently had Drake to sign. Out of 25 artists on that label, only 3 are hot. Wayne, Drake & Nicki … the singing rappers.

@KaramelKisses, LOL my point exactly, they’re only interested in their most popular arstist…..they won’t take the time to invest in the others because they’re just focused on making money

I happy for Busta and all but… Unlike what’s his name; you a living legend though, in others, you should have your own label but what it is what it is. Welcome to Cash Money.

  9. Rather have Busta then Bow Wow

That’s true what you said (comment above me) That’s his decision. I rather hear Busta over Bow Wow. That nigga ain’t doing shyt since 09. I hear his album pushed back too for the third time. Nigga Busta came in to Cash Money and already got a single. That’s what i’m talking about.

@Rather have Busta then Bow Wow, Bow Wow has a single too, so does Tyga, Twist had two singles. All of them were on tour all year. So your point was?…None of them have albums out. That’s the probably with Cash Money and Young Money. Everyone gets a song , a video, and some money

ummm….YMCMB is really gonna sink itself because it’s clearly focusing all on money now. YMCMB ain’t as special as they were….everybody in the damn crew now. DRAKE needs to pack it up for the 3rd album & do his own thing because he powerful enough on his own.

@DrakeTakeCare, GTFOH! Only kids think YMCMB is hot … so if you’re not a kid then you have the mentality of one. Gimmicky artists who will ONLY be relevant for 2 – 3 more years @ BEST! Busta, if you can sing then you are golden … ask Drake!

To people saying YMCMB is focussing on money too much are silly because that’s what the ethos (if you will) of YMCMB is – to make lots of money.

    [Reply]

    Sportz Reply:

@GlenJ, You should use logos as opposed to ethos. Ethos relates to a sentiment that is usually an adjective, and money is not an adjective.

Make you wonder, though. ‘Bout cats like, jae millz & gudda gudda, whose been rollin’ w/ wayne since the start, but ain’t got an album out. Unless Busta did this for, money then it beats logic as to, why he needs CM.

I don’t like this move. I personally would rather see Busta work with Em or somebody on his level. Not that Wayne is not good, Busta is just apart of the true Hip hop movement. Cash Money is very watered down, besides Drake who is soft

I would agree that of the 2 disciplines, DJing has evlvoed the most, into something quite different to how it started. I-Dee’s video is just the tip of the iceberg to be honest.Hip Hop however has if anything regressed into a shadow of its former self. For me, it’s now called Rap with lyrics being dumbed down into little more than catchphrase hip pop. How can we go from the power of Chuck D and the verbal dexterity of Kane and have the likes of Souljah Boy and Akon cleaning up and getting paid? And these same Rap stars simply wheel out DJs (the guys who invented Hip Hop remember) as little more than stage props. So while DJs advance their art and take skills to a new level, rappers (at least the successful ones) aren’t. Strikes me that to get paid, the KISS principle pays off.

Albert Einstein can be quoted as saying, ‘The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. “Whenever you find yourself feeling in a down mood, try listening to some of your favorite music to pick your spirits up. This is what you’ve been longing to hear your ex boyfriend say, however don’t be too desperate.
