Rap-Up.com || Nicki Minaj & David Guetta Open the 2011 AMAs [Video]

Nicki Minaj and David Guetta kicked off the 2011 American Music Awards by pumping up the volume. The French DJ led into the Harajuku Barbie’s grand entrance for a rendition of their single “Turn Me On.” Speakers implanted into her backside, Nicki plugged in during their joint performance, descending on a platform to join her backup dancers.

During the rap portion of the track, the pink-haired diva cozied up to her dancers in a web of lights, segueing into her smash “Super Bass.” With Guetta behind turntables, she showed off her dance moves between two giant robots decked in LED lights and smoke-spewing pipes as Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez sang along in the audience.

@Jaymalls, Around 8-10 (depending on peoples vague definition of Hip-Hop) of the 13 tracks on her album are very much hip hop. What category did you want them to throw her in? Don’t try to make being diverse a negative. And to top it off it was Rap/Hip-Hop bitch and she was definitely rapping on that album #staymad.

@Valerie,i hear she is going to do more rapping on here next album,so we will see,but for now she is doing her thing on the pop tip,she wasn’t lying when she said she is a rapper but she could have got a pop deal…nicki is doing her thing on both tips pop and rap.i understand you though you are one of the fans that rather the rap side more..with me i like both sides,you like her but you like the rap side more..and gratz to her again on them awards and a great performance.

it’s a techno dance/pop song. That’s the last of “pop Nicki” we’re gonna hear for a while, Nicki is releasing her new album in the beginning of 2012 and she is reverting back to “old Nicki” and adding her alter ego “Roman” to the mix.

I don’t understand, Missy Elliot is a Rapper/Singer…Queen Latifah is a Rapper/Singer, and so is Lauryn Hill.. So why can’t Nicki? Nicki did her thing, She is smart and knows what appeals and what doesn’t. She is still a rapper, just she is an acquired taste. Hater or not, you have to admit she has open the lane again for female rappers to be acceptable in the industry again…

@Jordan, RIGHT! but did nicki not choose to do this pop song! nobody forced her to do it she decided to do a pop song and thats the problem i have. I want her to do the shit she was doing before, you might like this pop sh*t but for me I want her to do her mixtape music, she has evolved as an artist but as a fan I would like for her to stick to hip-hop. This album did not look like any of her mixtapes, and thats what I have a PROBLEM with as a true fan. If you like this pop music that SHE decided to do then cool, but for me and many other fans we want her to rap more, f*ck mixing pop and rap together. She’s a good rapper and should stick with it. Nicki Minaj is good at this pop stuff, but the rest of her fans that were with her since she was on dem steps in Queens rapping on THE COMEUP DVD want to see more of that. I love Nicki and everything that she accomplished, it’s sad that she had to do this pop music for recognition because she is one of the best rappers ever. As a fan of her hiphop side I would like to see mixtape Nicki do her thing as well because she slayed on Beam Me Up Scotty. I’m sure at this point the pop world will love anything she puts out because they’ll take anything.

First of all the majority of ppl who vote for these awards are children. Primarily lil girls and that is nicki’s fan base. Not hating just sayin and her performance was Terrible. She really shouldnt sing stick to rappin booboo! That is truly when she shines as a star. i ocouldnt get into the performance during that terrible techno song until super bass came on. But overall I love her and what she’s doing go nicki!
