« Justin Bieber Raps to Tupac’s ‘Thugz Mansion’ [Video]New Music: Kendrick Lamar f/ Busta Rhymes – ‘Rigamortus (Remix)’ »Rihanna’s ‘Talk That Talk’: First-Week Sales Predictions![]() All eyes are on Rihanna as her sixth album in six years arrives this week. How will it fare on the charts? The first sales estimates are in.
According to HITS Daily Double, the pop princess’ latest Talk That Talk, featuring the chart-topping single “We Found Love,” is on track to sell 180-200,000 copies in its first week based on early estimates. Her previous effort LOUD opened with 207,000 in November 2010. Mary J. Blige will also return to the charts with My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act I). The sequel to her 1994 classic My Life is poised to move 120-140,000 units in week one. The R&B veteran’s 2009 album Stronger withEach Tear debuted at No. 2 with 332,000. Nickelback (225-250,000) and Drake will vie for the top spot on next week’s Billboard 200. The Young Money rapper’s sophomore effort Take Care enters at No. 1 this week with sales in the neighborhood of 700,000. These numbers could see a boost with the kickoff to the holiday shopping season on Black Friday. Final figures will be released next Wednesday. @weezy f., funny because loud debuted at #3 in the US and sold over a million in the US alone while chris brown and beyonce debuted at #1 with higher sales and have yet to sell over 1 million in the US. and world wide rihanna destorys their album sales.
loud 6 million ww
4 not even 2 million ww
and fame not even 2 million ww.
you can combine beyonce and chris browns last album sales and they still don’t sell as much as loud has sold. now all the haters can have a seat.

What you need to do is go on Twitter and advise her to take a break … people are tired of her!

She needs to push out her next album by April 2012 with a HUGE promo tour the week of release with performances and interviews on The View, Jimmy Fallon, Regis & Kelly, Jay Leno, Letterman, American Idol, X Factor, The Voice, America’s Got Talent, Good Morning America, The Early Show, etc.

@KaramelKisses, I agree, she needs to take a brake. Not necessarily because I think people are getting tired of her, but because she seems a bit worn out, and based on her album rating, she isn’t able to keep everything up at this momentum. She just needs to take a break and make occasional fashionable appearances, slowly making good songs on the way.

@Rap*, Aren’t albums comprised of singles? So if she can score #1 singles surely she can get a #1 album. However she has failed to do so & I will explain why. She releases radio or pop friendly singles which are hot but that may be 2-4 singles an album. But an album has anywhere from 10-15 singles so that lets you know that the majority of singles are the album are NOT good or that good.

Ashanti branched off to do movies and establish her own label which takes time, Ciara and not even Rihanna have there own record labels yet. Ashanti’s last album didnt do so well due to poor promotion but i guarantee you she will make a big comeback. Shes not a gimmick, Ashanti is a true artist that makes great music and writes her own material.

Why would Mary have huge sales? She released the Breakthrough with one of the biggest r&B songs of the decade “Be Without You” and that sold 700k. This is her 3rd album since then and sorry to say, but the quality of the singles has been less and less with each album. She’s pretty much been selling off of her name alone. I’m a huge Mary fan and I can’t even name a song off of this new album.
Rihanna on the other hand has the #1 song on iTunes and radio so I’m not sure what happened. Maybe people are finally realizing her most recent albums have just been phoned in. No substance and filled with sex for shock appeal to seem edgy and cool.

MJB and Rihanna albums went out Monday !!
they aren’t “First-week sales”
[Reply]
November 22nd, 2011 at 1:20 pm
Early estimate means it’s unofficial & most-likely to vary! I’m not surprised it her first week sales go to 300k next week because RiRi first week sales are always a bit slow, give her a month & she’s platinum+. In a way i’m glad because as a much appreciated fan, RiRi’s aim is to get a #1 Album in America since she’s already done it WorldWide with mutiple albums. This way, if she’s doesn’t achieve an American #1 Album that can only mean more albums to come with more massive string of hits!
The more ppl tell her or assume she doesn’t have what it takes to score a #1 American Album the more she’s tries to prove them wrong which is a bonus for her fans! I not fond at all when ppl tell others that cannot do anything or will never do anything, that leaves room for growth by motivation!
Since it’s an early estimate & the week really just begun, I will hope for the best as a dedicated fan & if not like the great Aaliyah said once “Dust yourself off & try again” & i’ll be waiting until then i’ll continue to rock to #TalkThatTalk! BTW, this is the reason why i believe in Rihanna or appreciate her as an artist & her work because ppl constantly call her out her name like “slut” or make a mockery of talent by insinuating that she’s “talent-less/gimmick” which makes us the RihannaNavy go hard!

KaramelKisses Reply:

@Billionaire, NOT hard enough if she can’t manage to get a #1 album on the sixth try. By the way, that barcode on the back of the cd (when you purchase it in stores) or the tabulation that itunes, rhapsody and billboard use are indicators of the what the album is projected to do. So basically right now, not alot of people are buying TTT. These are not people just creating numbers, they are watching the actual #s.

I dont want to pissed anybody off. But the fact of the matter is. Rihanna is a singles artist. She only pushes for hit songs. She has never been taking serious as a album artist. Album artist these days are Alicia keys or even Beyonce. They release good albums. Not just one or 2 hits songs and hurry and make another album. Thats why Rhi is able to push 6 albums in 6 years. Nobody releases an album every year like that. Mariah did in the 90s but Mariah pushed out #1 songs and good, strong solid albums. Thats going to be Rhi problem. She will never been known as a serious artist.Might be the next Jlo. She was hot pushed out hits and alot of albums but never any classic albums.

@Dash, Longevity? Don’t you think you should hold that observation until maybe she has reached 8-10 years in the game? She has to release 4-5 singles (mostly collabs) in order for people to go & get the album weeks AFTER it has been released. Kudos that she can have 11 #1 singles but she can’t get ONE #1 album? C’mon, you fans/stans are in denial … I don’t find her to be that talented but she has some “curb” appeal to have sold 200,000 the first week.

Your first sentence is inaccurate because on 4, Beyonce hasn’t had any #1 singles (although they’ve charted well #2 or #3) because she still sold 310,000 week 1 and held strong w/ 204,000 the second week. AND all artists look @ first week sales because that’s an indicator for the album & whether or not “the machine” needs to restratagize or just count it as a loss … hence tours and/or merchandise. BTW, I haven’t repeated myself once yet you have several times talking about RR, GGGB and Loud. I will repeat that w/ those albums, they charted better AFTER she released 2-3 singles (mostly collabs) weeks AFTER the album had been released. But if those albums are still selling, is that a sign that her fans/stans, army, special ops (whatever you guys call yourself) want the music that she used to do instead of the crap that she is releasing now?

Rihanna will still hit platinum with ease, but I’m not surprised that this album isn’t going to do better than Loud’s first week because Loud was faaar better of an album to me. Talk That Talk was a rushed let down.
Now when it comes to Mary… why are yall surprised??? None of her singles even hit the Hot 100. They are lingering on r&b charts though but even there it’s still not doing much. Honestly those singles weren’t too great except maybe Mr. Wrong.
If Drake pulls 200,000 more copies out next week I will be in shock! Usually for popular rappers the first week is crazy and then the week after sales going down by 80% then slowly decline.

The problem with her fanbase is that their technically a younger croud that uses electronic devices to purchase music. Basically Internet savvy’s. Their not going to pay for music, no matter whose the artist. If they can get it downloaded for free, they’ll do it in a ny minute despite the consequences. The repercussions are getting harsher, so be on the lookout as Congress is in the process of signing a bill that will include imprisonment.

@Well, Their fanbase acknowledges the notoriety of the artist. It comes with self pride knowing that they have purchased authentic music( not necessarily quality or good music). They can forever warrant and provide proof (receipts) in the future that the music is authentic and not stolen. Consumers will purchase that authenticity in the second market. This really shouldn’t be a surprise seeing as she went in to Loud having released “Love The Way You Lie”, “Only Girl”, and “What’s My Name”. That’s 3 #1 singles preceding the album as opposed to her one in “We Found Love”. There was more build-up to LOUD than there was this album. More promotion, more performances, etc. Loud had 3 big name features in Drake, Eminem, & Nicki Minaj, where as this one only has Hov. These numbers aren’t that surprising. Nickelback outselling her is somewhat surprising though. She might only debut at #3 at best, cause I predict Drizzy will do more than her this 2nd week of Take Care too. Wonder when she’ll ever score a number one album? SN: She does need to take a break for a little while, she’s oversaturating herself. Beyonce will run the game for a year or two when she drops an album, then cool off for a little while, only to come back like she never left, Riri should follow suit.

Mary has a decent album but when listening to her album it like listening to her previous album and the one before that, and before that. They all sound the same, talk about the same thing. It’s tedious. Rihanna album isn’t bad but only 11 tracks? maybe she needs to take a break because she pops out an album every year. All her beats/production on her new album sounds like snippets from her previous albums. after this album she should wait until late 2012-2013 to release another…so people won’t get tired of her…and so she don’t pull “mariah carey” on us. lol
Really i feel like out of all the albums she released i can say Girl like me, GGGB, Music Of The Sun and Loud were actually quality albums…albums like Rated R, Talk That Talk were rushed.Quality over Quantity.

I think Rihanna’s low sales have to do with her fanbase. Her fanbase is probably made up of a majority of 12-20 year olds who probably have never purchased an album in their life. They are growing up in a time where illegally downloading music is the most common form of getting their music. I mean, 180-200K isn’t even ‘bad’ by any means but with an artist like Rihanna who racks up so many #1′s and is literally everywhere, you think she’d be doing 400K and over in her first week sales. I know a #1 album doesn’t necessarily qualify it as a hit or not, but I am still sort of in disbelief that she has never hit #1 on the Billboard 200.

When an artist makes a album it shouldn’t sound like their preceding album. Rihanna with “TTT” it sounds like the Deluxe version of Loud. People that don’t buy albums will think she is still tryna push singles out from Loud. Each album shoul have a distinctive sound , ex: B’Day is full of uptempos, as DIL is for where Bey gives us the sexy side of her vocals, IASF is pop ballads, pure clean vocals and the infamous 4 is more gritty, raw, threatening vocals that we haven’t heard. Rihanna needs to take notes or get she will get lost in history. But Rihanna isn’t at that stage where she could make her own album, she is still on the hunt for a stable place I’m the music industry, it’s time for her to make her path. I blame Rihanna fans who promote sings that repeat the title 2 thousand times in a song, rather than push the California King Beds to the top.

ppl need to do their research on sales of certain artists. rihanna does 180-200 first week, but her album keeps moving 25-30,000 each week throughout the next 3 months. loud is still selling because she kept turning out hits for that album. she sells off of cumalitive sales. and drake…well he just sells. he’s a big market artist and appeals to fans of different genres and ages, and is an artist that will continue to move units throughout his career like a kanye west. ye did 450 first album, then 850 second album, similar to drake.

Omg!!!
All I’ve been hearing is that Beyonce’s album ’4′ flopped. So how come it sold 310,000 units first week? and Rihanna’s ‘Loud’ sold just 207,000 first week in November 2010.
‘I am…sasha fierce’ sold a whooping 480,000 units first week.
And now Rihanna’s new album will only sell a pitiful 180-200,000 copies in its first week based on early estimates.
Rihanna is the flop!!!
This goes to show that having billboard number ones does not guarantee good album sales. People will rather buy the singles because the rest of the songs in the album are crap!!!
Hell, even Drake’s album is way better than Rihanna’s.
Wow, after all this rant by her fans, she will only sell just 180,000 copies of ‘talk that talk’ first week?
Rihanna is a BIG flop!!! Damn

Typical! I thought these opinions of Rihanna’s early estimate of her first weeks sales were general or non-bias meaning different fan bases including RiRi’s speaking their mind about Rihanna & her new LP, but now i see these are Beyonce fans ranting & rejoicing! Ok it’s all clear now i get it!
This isn’t about Rihanna’s artistry, this is about Beyonce vs Rihanna! Now that Beyonce’s has to take a break again due to her pregnancy, B-Fans jumping on Rihanna for her to take a break!
Interesting, for ppl who claim that they have no interest in Rihanna, probably hate Rihanna & dislike her music, assumes she’s a joke, sure making a fuss about her or in other words talking a lot about her as if she’s competition, right? See you can always tell when B-Fans are worried or concern they feel the need to lash out at Rihanna & mention Beyonce at the same time when this post is about predictions about Rihanna’s First week sales! If Rihanna is such a joke, or a non-competitor according to B-Fans why rant? hmmm…What really is the issue here? #Afraid? I mean y’all got so excited base on two days sales…hmmm…if she’s making 200k in two days then i wonder how much she would have by next monday? See B-Fans you’re suppose to rejoice when the official numbers are in not before because when things change which the will, you all would pretty stupid npw wouldn’t you? @Billionaire, Please exit to the left w/ your thesis. NO ONE is rejoicing in her first week sales … btw, the 200,000 is the projection for the first week (tuesday to tuesday). And no Beyonce’s fans/stans are not lashing out or afraid of nothing Rihanna does. Rihanna’s fans/stans can spin it however they want to but the girl is overworked and undertalented and she is not touching B on B’s worse day. What is interesting is that all of the Ri fans/stans were ttt (talking that trash) on 4, how there are no #1s yet B outsold your fave in the first AND second week. So before you start your rant, carefully read what is written.

Because some of you are still bringing up OLD albums (GGGB, RR and Loud) all which didn’t hit #1 but charted well weeks/months after its initial release due to her releasing ok/good singles (mostly collabs). If you know how the charts works, then you would know that you need HIT singles to SALE albums, hence why “4″ has crossed the 1 million mark because it don’t have hits to SALE the album.

Rihanna had a number one single this year (for one week) and no umber one album (pity).
Beyonce had a number one album this year ( for two weeks) and still no number one single.
Now Rihanna’s fans are saying that scoring a number one album isn’t nothing, but scoring a number one single is. Really? This clearly shows the kind of fans Rihanna has: Brainless kids that know nothing about music.
People, i think that now we all know who is the true flop. that is all i’m emphasizing.
Finally, Beyonce will have peace. Justice has prevailed. The numbers, public and music critics have spoken.

@Dash, What I think is cute is the fact that Rihanna has one of her paid “people” on this blog defending her crappy album which everyone knows she released in haste and you can clearly tell because the first sales predict she will only hit the 200,000 mark but the delusional fans can’t seem to get past old albums that charted well only off the strength of collabs (Drake, J, Ye, Em, etc.) which maybe why this album isn’t expected to do so well (outside of the J collab)because you delusional fans aren’t accustomed to her NOT riding someone else’s d*ck both literally and figuratively. LOOK, I used more characters to type my message than the # of albums Ri has sold this week.

@Fan Of A Fan, Rihanna’s album didn’t even leak and it still had poor sales. like seriously, she needs to listen to the pros in the business like Beyonce and take a dang break, thats why her voice sounds like a rooster. Man I bet Beyonce’s unborn child can do better than that. Beyonce’s 4 might be her lowest 1st week sales, but it’s higher than Rihanna’s best selling. Poor Rihanna, maybe you should go ask Chris Brown for some tips, just don’t get too close or you know what will happen (whopflopWhop) just like that album of yours.

According to HDD these projections are not final. The updated figures will come out later today. These are based off digital downloads only so far. Come on, do we really believe Nickelback will only move 250k during the busiest shopping week of the year? Or MJB only doing 140k? she’s hasn’t sold that low since her debut 20 yrs ago. I’m sure all the figures will increase for everyone once the sales are finalized…

Part of the reason why Rihanna hasn’t secured a #1 album is that she doesn’t have the strong fan base that other artists have. She is still very much a singles artist. Also, her albums’ sales aren’t front-loaded. Let’s compare Loud to Mary J’s Stronger. Stronger sold 332k in its first week but only sold 900k in the states. Loud only started out with 207k but had longevity on the charts and managed to sell about 1,500,000.
No offense to Mary tho, everyone gots to luv her. Mary’s problem is that she hasn’t had a radio hit in 6 years. She can go a while without one and still have strong album sales…but it’s getting to that point where her albums won’t sell well until she has successful singles. I mean look at the decrease in sales for the opening weeks of her last three albums (including My Life…)
But guys please listen. #1 albums and sales aren’t everything. Sales have nothing to do with artistry. Support the artists you like.

Its obvious this album was rushed. She needs to fall back for atleast 2 years and come out with another album to get the hype up. Chris Browns F.A.M.E. LP sold 270,000 copies in its first week which isnt bad considering all the back lash he got from the Rihanna incident and Graffiti had been a commerical failure. Many people thought his career would be over. At this point Rihanna should be doing 300-500k her first week shes one of the biggest artists in the World right now, global superstar her U.S. sales should be massive but she just lacks a supportive fanbase.

I really don’t care if she gets a number 1 album or not. LOUD wasn’t number, yet gave 3 number 1 singles. Talk The Talk is a pretty cool album, nothing too dark, like her previous ones. Moreover, about that Chris Brown comment someone made: don’t forget Rihanna’s LOUD was competing with Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” and Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday”, not to mention Kanye West’s “Twisted Fantasy” and Susan Boyle, while Chris Brown’s fame didn’t have that much competition except for Jennifer Hudson (I’d like to see him release an album along with big album toppers like Taylor Swift or Lil’ Wayne or Nickelback… even Adele in her first weeks…or even the hyped Lady GaGa and see how he fares…)..
All in all, TTT has a lot of potential. I’m not a huge Rihanna fan, and the album isn’t that great…but its better than most released right now.

Well Well, Thanks for making Rihanna & her album Top Story again for how many days now…? Negative or positive, publicity is publicity. However, this is more of an advantage for Rihanna, you may ask why, because of the responses on this blog, viewers, listeners, fans, stans, & even the haters will flock to YouTube to view her album to see why there are negative responses in which they will decide to buy or not, some will decide to buy it because of the negative response (reverse psychology), and the rest may buy because they’re neutral meaning they show all artist love either she still wins, make money, and walk away with yet they most talked about album once again do not believe check the comment count on this blog.
So yes she missed the #1 American LP once again that means more albums & room for improvement. There’s no shame in having no American #1 LPs on your sixth try especially when she already has 3 #1 WorldWide LPs. This simply means her journey isn’t complete, you wanted her to take a break well perish the thought since she’s obviously has work to do for the future. I’m starting to believe that in the USA, Rihanna is a singles artist but Globally she’s amazing just like Beyonce & Gaga. So we the RihannaNavy will hold on the the Broken records by Rihanna as the youngest & fastest artist to obtain the two-digit position in #1 singles & the most within this Millennium! Wish we had a #1 US album but until then we good!
You know what’s interesting about this post, it’s apparently true that when in comes to first week sales Rihanna lacks but however she still manages to go multi-platinum overall which is a prestigious achievement alongside having a #1 album. Hence her title – “Talk That Talk” which is vague meaning she expects negative & positive to come her. This isn’t the first time ppl have thrown shade or verbal punches at Rihanna & won’t be the last.
Lastly, thanks for those that call my comments and it’s structure a thesis or laugh at it, means i’m well educated & write well so thank you i took it as a huge compliment. Furthermore, hate it or love it either way you’re still obsessed with Rihanna like a fan of hers. Get it the picture?!

@ billionaire…I salute you. Just as the Bey fans try to deny that 4 was a flop(Honestly, 4 was a mess) 4 was too loud and unstructured and too experimental…..Bey came a long way and she produces amazing music, but she needs a break
Coming to Rihanna, I love her music but I don’t have a good feeling about TTT(I’m disappointed). The album sounds rushed, and a little immature for an artist her caliber and she needs a break…..I wish her all the best though
Ultimately, These two artist are amazing in their own right and have kept us entertained for years ….and Rihanna fans don’t lie and say “you don’t have 1 0r 2 or more songs from Bey” and Bey fans d0n’t lie and say you don’t have Rihanna songs………
As much as these both amazing artist try to get to another level…..they must let the new level find them….They both need to sit down and enjoy their well deserved money and let Artist like Ms. Keri Hilson, Ms. Kelly Rowland and Ciara etc….catch up with them

These sales aren’t talking that talk. What’s the deal Rihanna?
All these #1′s and nothing to show for it.
Sad story.

When I buy a album I only do if I respect the artist, like Beyonce. If I don’t I will download it free because I don’t know what to expect. Hopefully rihanna does well

@KaramelKisses, Let me rephrase….4 is not as successful as other Beyonce’s previous work. As you said your self ” sold over 500,000 copies in the first 2 weeks (week 1 – 310,000 and week 2 – 204,000)”
Now on I am ….she sold 482,000 units in its first week, Having sold 1,459,000 copies in 6 weeks of release in 2008. Now you do the math.
As I said earlier on, I’m not a Beyonce hater but she and Rihanna need to take a break, instead of rushing albums….
Creativity is a very sensitive and mysterious tool and cannot be rushed…..

@Emkay, Beyoncé did not rush 4. She most definitely took a break before releasing it. One could never record 72 tracks for an album within a long period of time, and call it rushed. B’Day, her most successful album to date, was recorded in two weeks. Thats what rushing is. So please, back up your statements with solid facts. Thanks! <3

@arob, Some of them do well on their first week but most of the pop artists first week sales seem to decline than go up eg Britney
…Baby One More Time sold – 120,500 units(1st week)
Oops!…I Did It Again – over 1.3 million units in the first week
In the Zone sold – 609,000 during its first week
Circus – 505,000 units in its first week
Femme Fatale – first-week sales of 276,000 copies
But then again this might be affected by piracy or…………

I would never buy an album of this pop puppet. 6 albums in 6 years is just ridiculous. I’m sick of her, she’s sooooo overexposed.

#1 ALBUMS=SOLD MORE THAN ANYONE THIS WEEK…..how is that a big deal?.CB had a #1 album but he didn’t even go platinum……Rihanna is big as hell so a #1 album couldn’t really make her career any better than it is…..Some people NEED a #1 to boost their career, she DOESNT….she didn’t have a #1 album in 2008 but she putsold Beyonce WORLDWIDE….so think before you go talking shit.

I LOVE how every artist is compared to BEYONCE.If any artist has won 16 Grammy’s, sold more than her own group alone, and is known to be one of the greatest artist of ALL TIME, I probably would too. Rihanna is so boring. I wouldn’t buy that album if it were free or see a concert of hers.Plus she is still trying to reach Beyonce’s level by releasing an album every year, which I cant even name because they are so lame. Rihanna fans just give in and follow a real artist.

First of all Rihanna doesnt have the worth to be compared to Beyonce by no means at all. All yall talking about is rihannas latest albums. Remember music of the sun and sos and all dat pon de replay shit the hoe was very much wack. Now remember beyonces first album shit was flawless even had 6 grammies in one night how u gon compare her to the now 30 year old beyonce. B aint worry bout dat little girl but i bet beyonce would have qhopped dat ass back in crazy in live time but rihanna was suckn dick then. Sad wen u jus started to get big at the end of somebody’s career. If u gon compare some artist compare it right Rihoes doses
