With two weeks to go before his long-awaited album TM103: Hustlerz Ambition drops, Young Jeezy breaks down one of the more unexpected collaborations with Jill Scott, which he describes as a survivors’ anthem.
The Snowman teams with the soulstress on the motivational “Trapped” off the December 20 release. “The record with Jill Scott basically sums up my life in one song,” Jeezy tells Rap-Up.com. “It’s basically saying I had humble beginnings, but where I came from, I feel like there was no way out. Everywhere I looked, everywhere I turned it was just hurdles and mountains and hills and it was like, ‘How the fuck do I get outta here?’ or ‘How do I better myself?'”
He hopes the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced song will serve as inspiration for others who are going through tough times. “It was a real challenge, but I just feel like with that record, a lot of young cats out there [can relate] because they don’t know how they’re gonna make it or how they’re gon’ feed their family or their kids or their crew or their people,” explains Jeezy.
If you’re feeling like there’s no escape, just push play. “I just think that should be your theme song because sometimes you do feel trapped, but you gotta know that there’s always a way out of a trap. Even bears get out of them motherfuckers. You gotta just believe in you and just push harder.”
In addition to Scott, TM103 features appearances from Jay-Z, André 3000, T.I., Ne-Yo, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, and more.
