Leona Lewis Covers Nine Inch Nails on ‘X Factor’ [Video]

Leona Lewis

“X Factor” champ Leona Lewis returned to where it all began. Looking radiant in a red gown, the British songstress poured out her emotions as she covered Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” during the singing competition’s live finale. The song appears on her three-song EP of the same name, available now in the U.K. It’s her gift to fans until her third album Glassheart arrives in 2012.

Well good. But dont u think we need more songwriters than plain singers? Since her debut album which was written by songwriters nothing’s been heard from her. Well at least nicki minaj doesn’t sing. Young money sit down

@classics, No it wasn’t, it was originally done by Nine Inch Nails from his 1994 album The Downward Spiral. Look it up. Just because Johnny did a cover doesn’t mean he ORIGINALLY made it…

This song was COVERED by Johnny Cash. The original is by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). Do your research.

Sorry classics, it was written by Trent raznor of nine inch nails and covered by johnny cash. Both versions are incredible, sung by artists with an incredible emotional connection to the lyrics. This cover is just a clumsy crass and frankly insulting use of this classic track. What on earth does Leona Louis know of drug addiction and being on the brink of self destruction!? What next? A cover of Smack my botch up by the prodigy?

@classics, No, Trent Reznor wrote this years before Johnny Cash covered it.

This made me both split my sides laughing, while at the same time cringe in embarrassment.

Truly terrible, she’s flatly misses the entire emotional content of this song. When Trent Reznor sang this, it was from the depths of his drug addiction. When Jonny Cash covered it, it was sung with the backing of more than 60 years of life experience.

Leona Lewis has neither of this things, and it painfully shows.

    Bad show, Leona, Bad show.

@Codezombie, so what are you trying to say? No one can sing this song unless they are a drug addict or of retirement age? I don’t get it. She did her own version.

This performance was so depressing and out of place for the show. She is the classic example of a music slave. I don’t believe shes happy with her career. something is wrong.

Jeez…some of you music snobs really piss me off with your ‘emotional connection’ crap! She’s just covered ‘a song’ for crying out loud… put HER version on it – that’s all. You make it sound like it’s illegal or summat…if you don’t like it, fair enough, but there are thousands out there who love her – and her powerful voice…as going straight in to No2 on the itunes chart proves! Get over it!!

She just seems a bit too pretty to be singing something as dark as, “I hurt myself today to see if I still feel. I focus on the pain, the only thing that’s real…”
