Kanye West Visits His Childhood Home with Jay-Z [Video]

Jay-Z and Kanye West

“Always knew it was gonna happen like this,” said Kanye West as he returned to the neighborhood where he grew up in Chicago. “Where I’m at right now is where I’m at when I was like four years old.”

In his latest episode for VOYR, Kanye pulls into his hometown for the Watch the Throne tour. He takes his tourmate Jay-Z to his childhood home on the Southside of Chicago and reflects on some of the fond memories, while greeting and taking photos with the locals.

The video also features some spoken word from Chi-town’s own Malik Yusef and a backstage conversation between Kanye and famed director Spike Lee.

@fanboy, i thought about what you said about Eminem, then I thought about the action verb “to watch” and the verb “to sit”. I can see Eminem rapping he sit’s on the throne -and it’s believable, but whoa, what a statement that would be coming from Eminem’s mouth. DO IT!!!

I think Kanye West and Jay-Z sits on the throne right now. I will admit Eminem is a better rapper than Kanye West and Jay-Z, but Kanye West is a better producer and better music artist than Eminem. Jay-Z is a better music artist than Eminem. Eminem has only one great classic album which is Marshall Mathers LP. All of Eminem’s other albums are either good, overrated, or terrible. Eminem has sold more records than every rapper, but Kanye West and Jay-Z have made better albums than Eminem. College Dropout, Late Registration, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, The Black Album, and American Gangster destroys the majority of Eminem’s catalog of albums. Kanye West has won 14 Grammy Awards, and is going to win a lot more awards. Jay-Z has won 13 Grammy Awards, and will win a lot more awards too. Eminem has won 13 Grammy Awards, but outside of the Bad Meets Evil Album, Eminem hasn’t been too relevant in 2O11. When unbiased music fans and music critics look at back at Eminem’s career, they will say Eminem is a rap legend, but Eminem’s catalog only has one masterpiece, where as Kanye West, and Jay-Z have made a couple of masterpieces and better music.

@TRA, You just gave facts that refute Em being a better rapper than them . Which he isn’t .

    TRA Reply:

@Real Issh, you must not understand hip hop very well to think Kanye West is a better rapper than Eminem. Eminem’s technical rapping skills are far greater than Kanye West’s technical rap skills. All unbiased hip hop fans knows that Eminem is a great rapper. But when people look at Kanye West’s catalog of albums, they will see that all of Kanye West’s albums got better critical reviews than Eminem’s albums. There have been times where a music artist have had a better catalog than the other music artist and the other music artist was a better rapper. For example, I believe Nas is better than Jay-Z, but Jay-Z has a better catalog than Nas, and I like Nas.

    LOL@ Micheal…that’s so wrong

Basically it’s all BS. They only make music to self gratification. Think of this if you made music cause you loved music why would your lyrics only belittle it’s listeners at the same time build themselves up. Music is suppose to make people feel good. Everybody don’t have fancy cars and things, if this is what your message is, then you’re a bitter person creating music just to make yourself feel good. Music is about submision. Giving yourself to the art. We’ve all heard the houses, the girls, and the cars. The content of music is lost in the egos of hurt men. Who gives a phuck about where you came from when you only go back to rub your wealth in peoples face. Seeing money don’t provide hope. Giving your time to mentor, the resources to provide people an opportunity, and the insight to seek means to help people is worthy of praise.

We’re tired of the same old content fried, saute’, grilled, smoked, smother, and buffaloed. Watch the BS is more like it.

Where the Jungle Brothers and PE? These nqqa are clowns. Jigging for the man’s table scraps, while they laugh at the FN working in the sun.

@So Odd, hip-hop has always had a level of braggadocia, it’s just that not many rappers have reached the level of success jay and ye have. they’re taking that aspect of hip-hop and applying it to how they live now, which is way more real than most. trust me, if earlier emcees had their level of success, they’d use it in their rhymes as well. it’s not belittling, it’s how they live. and they still come with insightful songs on the album as well.

    So Odd Reply:

@truth, I hear ya. So basically their making music for the 1% now? That’s what you mean? I want to hear music that relates to me, my generation, and my culture. If they’ve reached such a high level, then maybe they should make music for rich white people now.

@TRA jay made two classics to me. RD and blueprint. idk about bp though…i i’m on the fence to whether its a classic or not. it was great no doubt, but when i go track for track its hard to make it a classic when jay is mostly spitting about marcy/how great he is/girls every track. Em is better than Jay because his music tells a story that makes u FEEL something. He is the closest thing to Pac regarding emotive rapping that we will ever see. Eminem is also better than jay z lyrically, and showed that on renegade and throughout his general career. you can argue that jay has the better disography and i won’t argue with that cuz…

@TRA cuz jay has the longer collection. Your comparing 11 albums to 6 which really is BS to me…plus i like eminems 3 best albums MMLP, Eminem Show, Recovery, more than I like Jay’s 3 best albums, RD, BP, American Gangster, (better than blk to me). Eminem is the better artist because of his emotional depth and ability to tell/make up very intriguing stories, plus he’s a battle MC that managed to top raps elite *see BET 2011 cypher, which jay would never think of entering. Also add to the fact that jay isnt as original, i mean the man stole a whole biggie 8 bars in “give it to me”. As far as Mr. West goes… that dude just puts out great great albums. I like Kanye…i jus don’t think hes better at rapping than Em,which is my opinion.

@Tony, i have to disagree with on the fact the you said eminem is a better lyricist than jay. what I do love about Eminem is the way how he can take a bunch of random meaningless subjects and then ties them together into stories/parables that somehow make sense -thats absolutely genius. But jay z is a much more structured rapper, he can take a subject thats complex and break it down into simplicity, and he also can take a subject matter thats simple and make it sound complex, thats genius , what takes most rappers a whole song to explain ,jay can do in one verse. His vocabulary is impeccable…

You did give great insight to this argument, you made some great points.

Lots of of these materials complement every other well and so can be utilised within exactly the same space; for instance, utilizing metal and glass for countertops and cabinets can make a kitchen appear really contemporary and minimalistic, whilst in the identical time becoming very durable and effortless to clean.
