Ashanti Announces New Record Deal

Ashanti

Ashanti is taking the independent route with her next album. A day after releasing her Busta Rhymes-assisted single, the R&B diva has officially announced her new record deal.

The Grammy-winning singer will release her fifth album, the follow-up to 2008’s The Declaration, through her own label Written Entertainment under a worldwide distribution and label services deal with eOne Music. She was previously signed to The Inc./Universal Motown.

The first single from the 2012 release, “The Woman You Love,” features Busta Rhymes and was produced by Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis (The Fugees, Mary J. Blige). It is available now on iTunes.

“eOne is proud to have a partnership with Ashanti and her label Written Entertainment,” said Alan Grunblatt, President of eOne Music. “Ashanti truly has the independent entrepreneurial attitude that eOne was built on, and we’re thrilled to be working with her.

Ashanti added, “I’m so excited to have my own record label, Written Entertainment. With eOne as my distributor, I feel that their innovative and ambitious approach to the music industry, really gives my label a worldwide presence. They have the top radio people in the business and are hungry to win! The more I learned the business the more I knew this is what I wanted. Ownership is so important. As a business woman this was a great move for me!”

I’m so proud of her for forging her own trail and going against what the industry is all about right now. And as an independent, she’s definitely going to be making most of the money.

Gotti did Ashanti & Lloyd good by starting their careers. But once G-Unit shut out Murder Inc. you could tell her practically gave up on R&B and tried turning Ja into a gangsta rapper that he really isn’t. He even tried putting all them wack rappers on Lloyd & Ashanti’s tracks.

Anyway, I’m glad she’s taking the independent route. I wish her and Lloyd much success. They’re both good musicians that can do way better than “Murder Inc.”. Whether on a major label or independent label.

I hope this still means that she will get major promotion for her new album cause i know going independent can be a bit tricky when it comes to that. Also her music videos, singles, tv appearances. Ashanti is the type of artist who should definately be on a Major label but i can see why she wants to take control this time around. Hopefully it all works out

  24. ike

yeah im glad everyone seems happy for her but i can swear some of you dont know anything about the music industry. she got her own label. boo hoo. terror squad is still a label, but does that mean its relevant? no. she is not taking any damn crown because that kingdom called “RnB” has been colonized by the nation of pop/dance music. you have to be versatile and I don’t think Ashanti has what it takes to draw the number of fans to sell records which at the end is all that matters. Is she talented? to an extent yes? will she make any major impact? i doubt it. That aside I am happy she is making moves to get back. we all forget music is not only their passion but their livelihood. if a job is not going well for me i dont just quit and call it a day. i may quit but i will have to find a new one. that is life

WHAT A JOKE SON -_- AND @ike you can’t even spell your own name correctly that says a lot about u i bet you mentally challenged so i won’t waste much time lol but once again as i stated above son your a rihanna aka rihtard stan who can’t even sell albums and has to strip for attention and lip sync lmfao that’s just too funny<<<<DYING nice attempt with your failed illiterate paragraphs but it really made no sense doubt anyone else will read it O,O PEACE LIL MAN U GOT A LOT OF WORK TO DO TO UNDERSTAND WHAT REAL MUSIC IS, I MEAN IS RIHANNA TALENTED? HELL NO! HAHAH THAT'S WHY HER TOUR FLOPPED AND HER TICKETS WERE CHEAP AS HELL SHE CAN'T DANCE FOR SHIT…. #DONEDEAL BRUH

    [Reply]

    KillBill Reply:

@D J, You are really stupid, there’s no such thing as a correct spelled first name people spell their names different all the time. You must be a child? Rihanna albums don’t sale as much but she is bigger than Ashanti has been or will ever be.

    [Reply]

    Beyonce is desperate Reply:

@KillBill, Everyone is aware that Rihanna is F*cking for tracks and a puppet for the music industry. Yes, I give her credit for making hit singles but she can’t manage to get a number 1 album and she does not write her own music. A “so called artist” like her can never take a break from music because the population will just move on. She replaceable and not unique.

    NewLife Reply:

@ike, Just because YOU are a quitter doesnt mean everyone else is. If we want to be optimistic for Ashanti then let us. Dont come raining on our parade because you have doubts. As long as Ashanti keeps cranking out hits & her real fans go support her thats all that matters. Ashanti still eating off her past albums & hits she has penned. Its called ROYALTIES & PUBLISHING. So money isnt an issue for some artists who have had success in the past. Indie means she’s cutting out the big heads & middle men who dont do anything but sit on their butts while artists are the ones doing the big work and not paying the artists the actual amount they are due. Alot of artists are taking the Indie route because they see this

    [Reply]

  25. DJ

@ike stop hating its kinda obvious you don’t know shit about the music industry you stand for flop rihanna who is only successful “singles” wise lmao her career is going down album by album check out her flopped album sales… if you dislike a artist why the fuck waste all that time typing that long ass failed paragraph? do you seek attention online that you don’t get outside of the internet? go do something with your life buddy u a fool if u think that your one little illiterate comment that made no sense is gonna get you somewhere lmao she’s done this before and broke many of records that rihtard can never even come close to lol pop music is ok but it only last’s for a while….. that’s why pop artist can only sell singles but when it comes down to albums(which matter the most) they can’t sell shit =-( go do your research on music kid you making yourself sound pathetic…..

BTW you can’t even spell your own name rite lmao, that shows a lot…..

hmmm. i don’t know. I guess we should wait until the album as an independent artist, i mean, Frenchie did it, Mac miller doing it but this an R&b singer, i don’t think its gonna go well, i mean ashanti had that backing it was a little bit better concrete rose did numbers, ill wait and see.

As funny as it was watching 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Game totally ride out on her when the beef was happening, I have to say it was unfortunate she was caught up in all of that which destroyed her career and momentum too.

She makes genuine R&B music. Black folk know what R&B is about, and it’s none of the shit that the likes of Rihanna or other popstars try to pass off. The same way we know Nicki Minaj is not rap. So if Ashanti can make the same type of music she did before, I’m all for her comeback.

This is an awesome look for Ashanti if you ask me. I think it’s a bigger step than some might think to go the independent route and take FULL control of your career. Good luck to her and I am loving the new track with her and Busta. Hopefully we get the new album soon!

I didn’t know so much people were checking for ashanti like that. All of you guys better support! lol. Her vocals are so-so for me but every once in a while she will have that one good song i like. People keep saying that R&b is over, but i believe that if monica can come back as strong as she did with still standing, than ashanti can too, given the fan base she had back in day, i am in no way comparing the two vocally.
