Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the proud parents of a baby girl. The superstar couple welcomed a daughter on Saturday night in New York, according to multiple sources.

The baby was born via scheduled C-section at Lenox Hill Hospital. E! News reports that her name is Blue Ivy Carter, which close friend Gwyneth Paltrow confirmed in a tweet.

Their pal Rihanna was among the first to congratulate the new parents. “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih,” she tweeted.

Music mogul Russell Simmons also chimed in with his well wishes. “congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z.”

Beyoncé first announced her pregnancy in late August at the MTV Video Music Awards. Following the baby’s birth, the majority of trending topics on Twitter were dedicated to the Carters’ bundle of joy.

In a previous interview on “20/20,” Beyoncé shared her excitement about becoming a mother. “The best thing is knowing that my favorite person in the world I haven’t met them yet, and hopefully I’m gonna pass on things that generations of my family have passed on to me,” she told Katie Couric.

A year ago we would’ve laughed in the face of anyone who’d try to tell us that Beyoncé and Jay-Z would become parents within a year… It just seemed so surreal. But now that the time has finally come, I am happy for them. Hopefully people will respect the fact that they need some time to enjoy their brand new daughter and to just celebrate this new life. I think Blue Ivy is a beautiful name!
