Thirty-three years ago music gained an angel. Today we remember the legacy of Aaliyah Dana Haughton on what would have been her birthday. Although her life was cut short, her music will live on forever. R.I.P. Babygirl.
What is your favorite memory of Aaliyah? Reminisce below.
Happy Birthday Baby Girl! No one has still ever been able to ride Timbaland’s beats like you did. If only you could see how many artists you have inspired. 10 years after your death and people are still uttering your name. Talk about legacy.
@Chet, R.I.P. AALIYAH..BUT IM KINDA GLAD U GONE, BCUZ IF U HAD STAYED ALIVE U WUD HAVE BEEN SUBJECTED TO SO MUCH HATRED THAT ALL THSES BLACK B****S SPREAD AMONGST EACHOTHER. U WENT 2 SOON BUT I NO U CHILLN WERE U AT!
Everything. I think about her DAILY. Her presence is missed. Her music still speaks to me. She’s touched me in so many different ways. My fondest memory of her is EVERYTHING. I was with her from the beginning to the end and I miss her dearly.
Happy birthday Aaliyah & R.I.P. BabyGirl, you were truely One In A Million, let your legacy, your music, and your love that changed us all, live on until the end of time.
Happy Birthday Aaliyah – You are overly missed and can never be replaced.A legend in MY eyes. Would love to see where you would be now. Rest in peace ~ Love Forever ~
After all this time she is still my favorite female R&B artist of all time, I often imagine if how it would be if she were still here, who she may have worked with etc, I miss her. Imagine a T.I. collab, or one with JT, Big Sean,Usher, Kanye and more songs with DMX ….she left too soon, and honestly I feel more for her family and friends because they truly new her, I still remember the day she died and the week leading to it because I had just watched the access granted episode for “Rock The Boat” ..as beautiful of a video as it is, I wish it was never made because she would of never been on that plane.

@MusicKING12, Yea I can’t help but think that too if Rock the Boat wasn’t made. Around the time she was taking on so much to make her fans happy because she adored them so much. If I remember right I think she left early from making the video to start on another project
@Will, I may never agree with you about anything else, but I do agree with you on that! She had such an amazing voice, she could dance, act, the girl was really about to do big things! No other female artist can touch her! Happy Birthday Aaliyah, rip!
@and, lol why is that I have good taste in music i dont listen to any female artists of today cause honestly music just isnt the same anymore. And its pretty much evident that Aaliyah was the best female artist to ever live she had the full package.
@Will, Such A Lie. We understand that she passed awy but we do t have give her such a title that she hasn’t even gained with her short time as a performer.
@KillBill, you’re buggin. R.I.P. Aaliyah. As a young girl, I was so in awe of you! You were the first of performers who I used to look up on the internet feverishly lol. It hurt really bad to see you go because you were so unique. Your style and grace has inspired so many artists, good and mediocre alike.
@KillBill, Name a female artist with the beauty, grace, talent humble personality that Aaliyah had. I cant think of any. Can you? and dont even say who i think your gonna say cause she aint touchin baby girl in the least.
It’s crazy to think that she would’ve been 33 today, but she died at the early age of ONLY 22…SO SAD. Her legacy certainly lives on in todays music. I would have to say my fondest Aaliyah memory was when her third (and last) album came out in the summer of 2001. I remember I got it for my birthday and played it out. I remember she hosted TRL that week and they played her Diary episode. Wow, great memories. To this day, it’s still my personal favorite R&B album of all time. TIMELESS MUSIC.
Aaliyah was way more mature than the average female at her age i still have yet to see a female pass the natural beauty that Aaliyah had. She listened to almost every genre of music, studied her craft in order to be the best. Not one Aaliyah music video or song was boring to me everything was the best as the meaning of her name states. Aaliyah: The highest most exalted one, The Best.
I was six years old when she passed, so I don’t remember too much. I discovered her music, when Michael passed, again. I vaguely remembered a music video she did with Timbo, I loved her routine with the cane back then… That’s my most vivid Aaliyah memory from when I was a little girl. Now, her music enables me to travel back in time and get to a happy place. Her sound is just a unique one.
She carried herself with a lot of grace, was about her business, but NEVER cocky. Nor was she trying to come off as bad. She was a natural. I’m happy that I got to experience a little bit of her when she was still here. Even more happy she left so much for me to still discover!
omg i posted this remeberance verbatim this morning lol – still one of my top favs along with janet and kelly rowland! such elegance and grace – a true triple threat – forever be missed – one in a million!
Aaliyah is my favorite singer of all time. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about her. She is truly the greatest artist of all time & she was an angel that’s why God wanted her close to him. Take this day to remember aaliyah & martin luther king jr & all that they have contribute to this world. Let those close to you know how much you love them bcause life is too short. You are truly missed babygirl Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday AALIYAH ♥

rip aaliyah. but some of yall are just dickriding. greatest of all time? Can you even say that with a straight face? it was a great loss but i cant think of any other word besides dickriding to describe some of these comments. If she was alive today most of yall would be saying she’s illuminati and that she sucks.
but i dont want to disrespect the post by starting an argument. RIP
Happy Bday Aaliyah. She was so pretty and was only just getting started on her music and acting career when she passed away. RIP Aaliyah!! Will be listening to her albums today.
I was 9 years old when Aaliyah died. I remember it like it was yesterday and as I quickly approach 20 years old, I am proud to say she is still one of my favorite artists, as well as people. Aaliyah had so much swag and originality, she was definitely a triple threat, and had she lived longer there is no doubt in my mind that she would be BIG…and that a lot of artists, both male and female, wouldn’t have careers and/or be as big as they are. Just thinking about her not being here brings tears to my eyes. She was an inspiration and more than anything, an angel. Everyone who ever knew her always speaks on how great she was. I just wished I would’ve had a chance to meet her…to tell her how much I love her music, and how much she has inspired me in not only music but also how to be comfortable in my own skin. Aaliyah, your music and legacy shall live on. May you rest in paradise and never be forgotten. We love you <3
wow i remember i saw my cat @ petco in 2001 when Aaliyah Pasted Away and i didnt know what to name my cat, it was gonna be angel but better yet i named her baby girl after her aka name name awww…
I remember when I first saw the “we need a resolution” video and how sexy it was, my mom was like “i dont want u watching BET anymore!” LOL I still remember that to this day, when you dies I was just starting to get into ur music, its so sad that you had to go RIP
Poised. Eloquent. Classy! A true lady. One of the dopest to ever do it. A real game changer. The world was not ready for the presence of this angel. But we were blessed, if just for 22 years. You, Aaliyah Dana Haughton, are sorely missed. A spirit never to be forgotten. I love you…Happy Birthday! Rest In Heaven, Babygirl…
She is my favorite entertainer and has to have one of the most beautiful personalities to have been in the industry. Her style is my most favorite & Try Again is my song to this day. She is gone but for sure not forgotten. I could only imagine how much more greatness would of happened if she was around but her legacy would sure inspire more.

It would’ve been amazeballs if she hadnt die so youung. She’s just awesome… “What you do, to get to me? Or would you say to have your way?”… But, Rock The Boat is my FAVORITE!!! It’s still stuck in my head, ever since the 90′s. It would’ve been an awesome sight to watch her collaborate with this generation of artists like, lil wayne, drake, rihanna, nicki minaj, lady gaga…etc….*sigh… Rest In Peace my DearAlliyah ^_^
