Brandy and Monica Duet ‘It All Belongs to Me’ Due Next Month

Monica and Brandy

Brandy and Monica’s fans will get to hear the divas’ new duet sooner than expected. Their first collaboration in 14 years will be released next month.

RCA Records has announced a February 6 release date for the singers’ new single, “It All Belongs to Me.” Written and produced by Rico Love, the poignant song reunites the women for the first time since they topped the charts in 1998 with “The Boy Is Mine.”

The newly-minted record picks up where the original left off. “It’s a very soulful R&B song with pop sensibilities,” Rico Love told Rap-Up.com. “I wanted to make sure I made it a classic R&B record, but I definitely wanted to make sure that it had enough appeal to cross over and become a Top 40 record.”

“The Boy Is Mine” held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks, won a Grammy for R&B Performance by a Duo or Group, and was declared the best-selling song of 1998.

“It All Belongs to Me” will appear on Monica’s upcoming album New Life, due March 6, and Brandy’s as-yet-untitled RCA/Chameleon Records debut, coming later this spring.

Yea! Brandy I can’t wait for her new album!!!

I hope it is as emotional and diverse as Afrodisiac
with Club Bangers from Full Moon
and Ballads from Never Say Never
and has a main point like Human
and is as original and current as her debut Brandy

That will make the best Brandy album of all time and she will be back on top!!

I just wish I was on her team to help her choose singles. That’s always been her issue since Full Moon

Single Choices…and She needs to stop only releasing 2 singles we need at least 4 to 5 this time around

hopefully the albums stay on their sheduled time because I am SOOOOOO sick of these delays. it’s ennerving as hell. Monica, Brandy, JoJo, Kelly Rowland, Ashanti, Alexandra Burke, Tamia, Keyshia Cole, Michelle Williams… hopefully they’ll stop this in 2012. Goes on my nerves.

But I am eager to hear the song. Brandy & Monica rule over those “wanna-be’s” :)

At this point in both ladies careers Brandy needs this more than Monica. Monica has hits under her belt since the teen years in which they both dominated. So all of these comments about who cares about Monica, obviously still her fans b/c we are supporting her. Monica just recently had a number 1 album and a number one song so she’s made her comeback…Let’s see if Brandy can do it with the help of Monica b/c Monica did it by herself. I’m ready for New Life…I’m really glad to see both ladies working with different producers this time around though b/c both ladies music was beginning to sound the same… New Life…March 6th

@ Jay B. I beg to differ. Monica is on her 3rd single with this song. (we didnt buy any of the “buzz single” bs, the song with rick ross and until its gone were both failed attempts at first singles) she has to prove that her last album wasnt a fluke hit because she had a tv show recording the process…..so monica NEEDS this song to be a hit as much if not more than brandy….i love the both of these girls..can’t wait to hear

  46. StrangerInMyHouse

    people PLEASE!!!!

both are very good singers and both have/had their ups & downs in their careers.

to me personally Brandy is better because her voice gives me more and more of her albums appeal to me. Apart from her debut (on which I only liked the singles) all of her albums are mostly completely listenable while to me Monica’s music isn’t that quite consistent over the years. Only After The Storm (which was #1 on Bill200!) and Still Standing – the others didn’t appeal to me. both themselves + THE MANAGEMENT (in first case) made silly/stupid/bad choices on singles and album delays so not every time did something went well or take off well.
for example: if we look past both artists career peaks in terms of charts (both after their 2nd album) we can see that they had some hits on the Bill100 (hits classified as Top 20), but most prominently on the R&B charts (Top 10, #1′s). So they have somehow the same trend.
if we look at explicit tries to “comeback” we can see that they both struggled and while Monica won a bit of it back with Still Standing it COULD (NOT WILL or MUST) go down the aisle once again because “New Life” was delayed like 6 times and both “first” singles got scrapped although “Until It’s Gone” is such a fine song. And people are sick of waiting (no matter how many times she says it will go better and she needs the right songs. I – and sure enough many others – are just sick of waiting – really this can ruin an album). Same with Brandy: She searches for that “comeback” moment still and I hope it comes to life this time because I absolutely loved Afrodisiac and Human so much (even over Never Say Never) and I still don’t get it why she publicly denounces both albums since it was her choice to record them and she did great. while not all singles took off, she had so much potential in both records and again the bad management AND the delays killed it (in Brandy’s case also the leaks. so many wonderful songs leaked over the years 2008 – 2011 and they all go to waste because she won’t use them). So again (since it’s a good 3 1/2 years since Human when her album will be released) these delays COULD kill it.

so this is just my opinion and no hating on anybody because I like both and am a fan of Brandy first (she is my 2nd favorite singer). Monica ranks lower in my list because I don’t feel her as much as others before her. nevertheless they both deserve their place in music and rule over others (who should not be named now to avoid hatred) and they are sure enough able to deliver! so please make 2012 both their years and keep them making albums and let us not wait so long!

    Jay B Reply:

    @StrangerInMyHouse,

I love the tone of Brandy’s voice as well but as far as singing capabilities Brandy vocals are very limited and can never be in comparison of Monica’s voice and even Whitney stated before that when she did a record with Monica she got nervous because as Whitney said “That girl can go”

    [Reply]

    a harem in harlem Reply:

@StrangerInMyHouse, I agree with you about Brandy denouncing her recent albums. She shouldn’t downplay her work. Even though her last 2 albums didn’t do well commercially, it was still good material – especially “Human.” She needs to regain her confidence and stop relying so much on that same sound from “Full Moon.” I would like to hear a smooth, low, jazzy r&b song like “best Friend” on her new stuff. She should take it back to the 90′s and keep some of her arrangements simple – just add some bass-heavy beats w/ out all that futuristic stuff she likes to add. I hope her comeback is strong because I really like Brandy!

i’m reading some of these comments and it is really interesting as good points have been made. I wasn’t a huge monica fan until i watched her show but she has no doubt about it hits under her belt. one thing about brandy thought is that when she records and puts something out it get on top 40 right away. none of this releasing three singles and then turning around to call it a buzz single. on human right here departed was recorded and the same day her label was like this is the lead single and not that many artists can do that. It may not have went to number one but it charted on top 40

    [Reply]

  56. ADC143

Brandy’s last three albums were technically flops. Full Moon went platinum, but it underperformed and was a big sales decline from Never Say Never. Aphrodisiac and Human just tanked outright.

The truth is, however, that both Brandy and Monica need this song to be a pop hit because neither have had one in years. Yes Monica’s Still Standing made a dent with urban audiences, but didn’t perform well with mainstream audiences.

Neither have been “It” girls since the late 90s and can’t just throw a song/album out and have people flock to it like they used to. At this stage in their careers both have to strategically plot and play their hands right if they want a commercial resurgence.

Still Standing debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart with first week sales of 184,000 copies, becoming her second highest U.S. chart-debut, surpassed by her 2003′s number-one debuting After the Storm.[1] The album also entered at number one on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at number two on the Digital Albums chart.[46][47] In the United Kingdom, it debuted at number twenty-five on the UK R&B Chart. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, following shipments of 500,000 copies in the US.[48] To date, the album has sold over 474,000 copies in the United States.now where the fuck does it say platty at

I have been following both singers since I first heard the boy is mine when I was 10, I hope they both do well because lets be honest, the issue is not their albums but the change in music. brandys albums have been good but the music industry has changed and good black music is suffering.

Yesss I been waiting for this.. Bran really needs to learn to released more than two singles.. She needs to promote this album by dropping more singles.. That’s the way you get fans to get interested in your work.. Human album was amazing.. But her two singles were not the best of all the album.. I think if she’s release Camouflage as a single she would’ve hit the top.. Also with Piano Man and True.. So let’s see what B’Roca Has For Us..
