Diddy, Busta Rhymes Tweet Support for Swizz Beatz After Megaupload Shutdown

Swizz Beatz

Swizz Beatz is under fire after being publicized as the CEO of Megaupload, the popular file-sharing site that was suddenly shut down on Thursday. Now some of his peers in the hip-hop community are expressing their support for the super-producer.

Megaupload was taken offline by the FBI following charges against its operators for violating piracy laws, including their refusal to remove copyrighted material from the site in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Seven of Megaupload’s operators were indicted and four were arrested in New Zealand on Thursday in what the Department of Justice calls a “Mega conspiracy.” Swizz was not included on the list and has not addressed his involvement with the site (His name and title appeared on the “About Us” page).

The Grammy-winning hitmaker recruited his celebrity friends including Kanye West, will.i.am, Kim Kardashian, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, and wife Alicia Keys to appear in an online video endorsing the file-sharing service. Will.i.am subsequently requested that the video be removed and Universal Music Group flagged it for copyright abuse.

While most remained silent following the allegations, some of Swizz’ pals were vocal with their support including Diddy and Busta Rhymes.

“@THEREALSWIZZZ call me anytime and I will do anything for you !!!! I love You! Your a fuckin genius!!!!” tweeted Diddy. “@THEREALSWIZZZ your a bad motherfucker!!!! I’m so proud of you!!!!! Never stop!!! EVER!!!!! Let’s Gooo!!!!”

Busta Rhymes also stood by his friend’s side. “1st of all I am soooo proud of my brother @THEREALSWIZZZ 4 being apart of creating something (MEGAUPLOAD) that could create the most powerful way 4 artist 2 get 90% off of every dollar despite the music being downloaded 4 free,” he wrote.

“I am proud 2 stand next 2 my brother @THEREALSWIZZZ and fight the good fight…Our freedom is truly being fucked with in a very significant way and I strongly suggest 2 all artist especially the 1′s Swizz repped 4 comes out & reps 4 him!!!”

He continued, “With labels and companies doin’ deals with Spotify and many other companies like it who doesn’t give us shit continue 2 do what they do and blatantly show us how much they value the artist with doing deals of such disrespect and lack of value 4 our content.”

Megaupload was the 13th largest site in the world at one point, accounting for four percent of total online traffic. The indictment is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States.

Does Megaupload give 90% to actors and actresses in movies that are uploaded? Does everyone involved in that movie get a percentage? Does every person involved in a recording get a percentage also? Hopefully the other illegal sites will be shut down too. It’s easy to see who is making the $$$ here.

This is another fine example of things not being the way they seem. Too many people involved in the project and putting their all into what they do are not profiting fully because of sites like this. But Megaupload is making millions. I’m not just speaking of the artist or actor even. What about all the other people involved, directors, producers, illustrators, writers, etc. They all deserve their fair share, not someone who has absolutely nothing to do with any of it and does nothing (Megaupload).

So here’s the thing, if these celebrities have no problem with Megaupload then there should be no problem with other sites such as Napster. They’re basically the same thing.

On another note, I wish the Feds would’ve given some warning before shutting Megaupload down, I would’ve downloaded Mission Impossible 4 before they shut it down.

Well I’m confused about how that website is good for artists…Most people are against SOPA because they won’t be able to get free shit anymore. Lets be honest. When really they should be against it because it is written badly.

I’m glad that piece of shit site was shut down. Theres no way all of the artists/creators of content on there are getting 90% of every dollar. The government needs to end piracy, and the internet is not a place where we should be able to do anything we want, just like the real world.

@Marc, get off the internet then! Don’t like your free speech, freedom to go to any site you want, then move to China. As for me let freedom ring! I will fight for my rights… Do a little research and don’t be so ignorant about the music industry, artists get screwed left and right. Megauploads plan was going to change the music industry as we know it… The music would be free and the artist would get paid most of the profits. And the producers would get cut out. So theyre trying to kill it before it kills them.

@lucky, Ha, nothing is free, haven’t you heard? That site was making the rich richer. You had to pay for subscriptions to get faster speed or a full show. Otherwise you waited and waited and the show was cut off. And yes it could be free but who wants to watch part of a movie. Enter subscriptions. That is only what I’ve been told by friends because I’ve never used it.

Can’t wait to see how this end, because obviously signature were sign, I don’t see these people (Swizz) messing with his rep in industry and business.

P.S. Real artist will always get their money, true artist like Mariah, Alicia, Mary, Diddy, Aretha, Whitney, Celine, Common, own their property i.e. the masters, the orginal, and the release music is just a copy.

oh dear u mentioned diddy? diddy is not a true artist he does next to nothing regarding the music he puts out. barely even writes a lyric

@sj7, Isn’t Diddy a producer, had major hits in the 90′s. Oh well.

So even though Swizz’s name is listed as CEO and his friends are congratulating him for being a genius and thinking of a way to give them a 90% profit, it is still not proven he has anything to do with Megauupload. Not even after that video? Oh yes, well OK.

I agree with Sonya above…there are a lot more than just an “artist”‘s name that appear on these projects… and it’s the little people behind the scenes that do not get paid from sites like megaupload.

  16. Ang

oh, and now Swizzy has deleted his twitter account… you have nothing to hide right?

The TRUTH is that sooo much of music is not payed for, which DRASTICALLY cuts creativity in the industry making it hard for anyone who is NOT a Rihanna, Beyonce, Jay Z, Brandy etc to get their stuff out there.

It’s why these days there are a lot FEWER new stars coming out because the only people buying music are FANS, and it’s hard to make fans the way the industry currently is. Stealing music is the same as stealing from a store. If you have morals or are Christian you would agree.
