Nicki Minaj had everyone talking with her performance at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. Following an introduction from her fellow Young Money rapper Drake, the animated diva exorcised her alter ego Roman Zolanski during the theatrical, religious-themed debut of her new song “Roman Holiday” off her sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. “Take your medication, Roman/ Take a short vacation, Roman/ You’ll be OK,” she rapped.

I don’t hate Nicki Minaj, I think she has potential to be one of the greatest female rappers ever, but Nicki Minaj is wasting her talents by becoming a horrible gimmick just to sell records. Nicki Minaj is trying too hard to be the next Lady GaGa. I give Nicki Minaj credit for selling a lot of records in 2011. Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday did go platinum, but Pink Friday got horrible reviews from unbiased music critics left and right. As much as I hate The Grammy Awards, I was happy when I found out after the show that Nicki Minaj lost Best New Artist, Best Rap Album and every hip hop catergory she was nominated for this year. Nicki Minaj needs to get more serious with her music, otherwise, her white mainstream music fans at some point will turn against her.

@SecretKnight, Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday got a 69 rating on Metacritic which indicates good reviews , but unbiased music critics also felt that Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday was terrible compare to Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album which got a 94 rating on Metacritic, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got univeral acclaim in 2010. I believe Kanye West won Best Rap Album for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy at The 2012 Grammy Awards in a landslide, because fans and critics felt like MBDTF was a whole lot better than Pink Friday. A 69 rating might sound good, but a 69 rating is nothing to brag about at all. I doubt that fans and critics will call Pink Friday a great album in the next 5 years, in my unbiased opinion, Pink Friday had some good songs, but I felt Pink Friday was a terrible album.

Nicki Minaj needs to put out more serious songs. Before Nicki Minaj became famous, her sound was totally different on her mixtapes. Nicki Minaj changed her sound to please biased mainstream hip hop fans, biased mainstream pop fans, and biased mainstream music fans. As long as Nicki Minaj continues to make songs like Massaive Attack, Super Bass, and Stupid Hoe, it is going to be hard for unbiased music fans to take her music seriously. YMCMB lost all the awards they were nominated for tonight, so that proves to me that even The Grammy Awards hate YMCMB’s new music right now, and not everyone likes The Grammy Awards.

Another problem Nicki Minaj might face in the near future is that she might have to continue to sell out just to sell more records and stay relevant, but Nicki Minaj will continue to lose Grammy Awards until she makes better music, rather she sells records or not. Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday album sold more records than Kanye West’s MBDTF Album, and Kanye West’s MBDTF still won Best Rap Album. If Nicki Minaj makes more songs like Moment 4 Life, then only hip hop fans will buy her albums, and not as many pop fans will buy new albums like Pink Friday. If Nicki Minaj continues to make songs like Super Bass, and Stupid Hoe, then pop fans might buy her new albums, but she will start lose more respect from hip hop fans, and risk the chance of hip hop fans not wanting to buy her new music albums ever again. So either way it goes, it seems like a lose-lose situation for Nicki Minaj in the near future. If Nicki Minaj continues to put out bad music, then Nicki Minaj is only going to last no more than 5 years in the music industry and that’s the truth.

I love how every time someone does something slightly creative everyone automatically compares them to Lady Gage. Now don’t get me wrong- I love Gaga- but creativity did exist before she started singing. It is possible for someone who isn’t Lady Gaga to go outside of the box with a performance. I thought Nicki’s performance was very good. I was entertained. It wasn’t offensive. Nicki was playing a character. The exorcism was obviously just showing the craziness that is Roman.

If this offends you, then you are way too sensitive. I find it offensive that half of the artists that win awards thank god for bestowing the award upon them- like God doesn’t have better things to do- but I don’t sit around whining about how someone else looks at life from a different perspective than I do. I give major kudos to Adele tonight for thanking her doctors for fixing her voice.

There’s nothing worse than trying to do something for publicity that fails to make an impact at all. She’s as pathetic as GaGa. GaGa’s “album of the decade” didn’t win a thing and she sat there looking pressed. No one cares about those two attention seeking women who can’t make it being themselves so they have to change everything about themselves so they can have somewhat of a career.

This was a devil inspired performance. As a matter of fact as I saw it coming on I changed the channel. I mean the music industry has always been a satanic agenda tool, but this was past all moral decency. The commentor below referred to her British accent during, the performance, doesn’t realize that all Caribbean persons and their U S born children have either, British, Spanish, French, Dutch or Danish history. The palms of my hands were sweating watching this because I was kind of embarrassed for her. It was just stupid but I agree with one of the above comments; at least she was confident performing it. I think all her new material is pretty weak but I hope she proves me wrong. I’ll still probably pick up a copy of her new album because I’ve been a fan.

There were pop fans and hip hop fans who have said that Nicki Minaj’s performance was flat out garbage. The only people who are defending Nicki Minaj are the people who are hardcore Nicki fans who buy her albums. I believe that Nicki Minaj is a talented rapper, but she continues to waste her talents by being a gimmick. If Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded gets bad critical reviews, then not only do Nicki risk the chance of losing her pop fans, but Nicki will also risk the chance of losing her hip hop fans.
