New Music Premiere: Dawn Richard – ‘Change’![]() Dawn Richard calls for “Change” with the first offering from her EP Armor On, the prequel to the GoldenHeart trilogy, due in late March. The three-minute interlude serves as an introduction to the sound of Heart music. “The sound is aggressive, militant, but soulful,” the former Dirty Money member tells Rap-Up.com. “I wanted to add a New Orleans base in times of the second line, in celebration of our culture. Druski, the key producer of the EP, married the influences to tell the story of GoldenHeart.” Dawn sings about a love that hasn’t changed despite personal mishaps. “I used this metaphor to inspire the [Hearts] and tell them that we are imperfect but still worth loving,” she explains. “I didn’t want to do a corny idea of love. I wanted it to have a strength to it and not be cliché. I want to push the Hearts to hear R&B in a different way.”

@pinkfridayhoe, i think Dawn is independent on her own label right now and is looking for a major label to back her. I know she had a meeting with columbia records a while ago. She’s being very secretive about the business side of this project. And this isn’t the album, it’s an EP to prepare us for the real album.
This song amazing. In my opinion it’s her BEST to date. And i love most of her catalog

@cree, Yeah, thats wht i thought cause there was a vid some time ago where she joked to wanting a record deal for christmas. Also, when Diddy did his big BadBoy comeback on 106 and park only Cassie/MGK and FM were there. No mention of Dawn.
Iam glad its a EP not a Album cause its too soon. When she debuts her album, i want it to smash. These EP’s could build buzz.

@Replay, Wow, way to be mature…
@Brass_knucklez, I want you to know that Dawn’s fans are not all like this moron up here… By the way, I’m a fan and I love her music, but I understand where you’re comin from, this is a whole other take on R&B and not everybody’s going to like it…

@Replay, 0_0 Lmaoooooo Sooooo ur mad huh????? Did I just ruin your day??? Look just because your simple ass is easily impressed doesn’t mean everyone else will be. Im a Dawn fan but the song, just like your life, is basic as fuck and nothing spectacular at all. : ) Stay mad, it really helps her career <<< (sarcasm).
@Replay, Yeah I get where shes trying to go with her take on R&B but I don't think shes pushing the envelope enough for it to be interesting and relevant among so many other artists, signed or unsigned, who are making huge statements with there music right now. After listening to her thoughts about life, love and everything in between I just feel she has a lot more to offer than this.

From what I kno she’s only signed to Bad Boy when she’s in the group Dirty Money. She doesn’t have a major label solo deal, so this album is gonna be an independent label project. Look at the iTunes credits for December Sky, no Bad Boy, that’s when I realized she was indie.

She is and ‘ARTIST’. There is always a concept, idea and intent behind every word, every beat and everything she does. Its not yet perfected but I love that she is smart enough to have seen this connection is one that will bring out the best in her. I have so much respect for her. and. DRU!! That boy!!!
This musical marriage is impeccable I pray this becomes a launch pad for the two of you to go on to do things only God could have ordained.

THIS GIRL IS DEFINITELY A TALENTED ARTIST. I’M GLAD SHE’S SHOWCASING HOW GOOD SHE REALLY IS. I KNOW WHEN HER ALBUM COMES SHE’S GOING TO BRING THE HEAT. AND I HOPE SHE HOOKS UP WITH A GOOD LABEL. THAT WILL PROMOTE HER RIGHT, AND SHOW ALL OF HER SKILLS.

I really… LIKE IT! I’m a #heart through and through, but I’ll admit, Dawn’s been guilty of a few misses. That’s just being honest. BUT — I LOOOOVE this song! I think she’d make MAGIC with Stacy Barthe.
