Ashanti Covers Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’ on ‘GMA’

Ashanti

With her heart still heavy, Ashanti paid homage to her idol Whitney Houston with a stirring performance on “Good Morning America.” The R&B singer covered Houston’s classic “I Have Nothing,” which she has performed live before, and tweeted about the loss of the late legend.

“I still can not believe we have lost one of the most, powerful, soulful, soothing and classic voices of our time,” wrote Ashanti. “Her beauty, strength and poise touched millions around the world. She paved they way for women such as myself and her music brought generations together. Every little girl sang a Whitney Houston song. Having the honor of her being in my video and being the huge icon that she was, she always seemed like your favorite aunty. My heart goes out to her daughter and family. RIP the Amazing Whitney Houston.”

She also spoke with host Robin Roberts and performed her new single “The Woman You Love.”

She did a great job but I’ve never been wowed by her voice. It’s a generic voice but it’s a great voice nonetheless. I wish she could find a solid production team & crank out hits. She had a great sound with Murder Inc. now she needs to find another one or expand the sound she had with Murda Inc. Im pulling for her.

Ashanti performed wonderfully. She truly misses and honors Whitney for her outstanding voice and talent that left us too soon. It’s important to realize that when remembering someone, you should put them first and not yourself. Ashanti did just that. We will miss the Amazing Whitney Houston. Beautiful tribute!

She did good on the Whitney Houston cover, shockingly (Considering the last time & her last few vocal performances). But “The Woman You Love” she dogged too many notes for me. & it was a bit messy.

Ashanti doesnt have the greatest voice but it was good shes still an incredibly talent artist.

I loved her The Woman You Love performance, atleast she doesnt look so stiff dancing and she sounda decent. The I have nothing performance was nice, her voice was a little shakey, but she pulled thru, she seemed a little nervous/emotional – check what she wrote on her twitter about here. Good job Ashanti!

she barely even sang her own song. she was just dancing to her recording! i dont get why pepole record (let alone perform) songs they cant sing live

she needs a good set of backup singers to cover the chorus of ‘woman you love’ if she is gonna dance and not sing most of it. she has improved a lot but she still has a way to go with her performances.
