Whitney Houston Returns to Billboard Top 10
Whitney Houston’s music lives on. Following the pop icon’s untimely death on Saturday, her music has returned to the charts.
Houston’s 2000 compilation Whitney: The Greatest Hits re-enters the Billboard 200 albums chart at No. 6. According to Nielsen SoundScan, it sold 64,000 copies in the U.S., reflecting only one full day of sales after her passing (The tracking week ends February 12).
That was not the only album from the late legend that charted this week. Her 1986 debut Whitney Houston re-emerges at No. 72 (8,000), The Bodyguard soundtrack comes in at No. 80 (8,000), her final studio album I Look to You claims the No. 118 spot (5,000), 1987’s Whitney places at No. 122 (5,000), and The Preacher’s Wife soundtrack finishes at No. 183 (4,000).
Additionally, her chart-topping 1992 single “I Will Always Love You” logged 195,000 downloads, debuting at No. 3 on the Digital Songs chart.
Houston’s albums and songs are expected to get an even bigger boost on next week’s charts when a full week of sales is reported.
