Rap-Up.com || Rick Ross Tops MTV News’ ‘Hottest MCs in the Game’ List

Rick Ross is having the best week ever. After Timbaland hailed him the “reincarnated B.I.G.,” MTV News has ranked the Teflon Don #1 on its seventh annual “Hottest MCs in the Game” list.

“His impact is irrefutable: Even without a solo album, he maintained a healthy and consistent buzz throughout the year, notching a #1 rap album with his Self Made compilation,” explained MTV News’ Hip-Hop Brain Trust, who selected the lyricists based on a combination of rhyme skill, flow, buzz, commercial success, business ventures, web presence, and cultural influence.

Drake takes the runner-up spot and Kanye West finishes third. Other rappers making the cut include Lil Wayne, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, and Nicki Minaj, who is the sole female on the list for a second year in a row. The Bawse’s Maybach Music Group signees Wale and Meek Mill also earn spots in the top 10.

One of the most noticeable omissions is J. Cole, who is fresh off his Grammy nomination and the success of his debut Cole World and hit singles “Work Out” and “Can’t Get Enough.”

yes rick ross deserves the top spot, his flow and the way he puts together is words on any song is quite fascinating and makes you think while listening.

dont focus on just his beats and catching hooks, listen closely to what he says, rick ross is the bawse of sophisticated rap.

He should be tied 1st with Kanye, in my opinion. If we’re looking at it from 2011/12 then, you can’t deny Kanye’s buzz. He fits each and every combination. He Had two no.1 albums. W.T.T broke the itunes digital sales record, the album was no.1 in like 5+ countries. Not only that but, He won 4 Grammys, nobody else on the list won 1. Sold out tour w/ Jay. He debuted his Fashion Line during Paris Fashion Week, he’ll do it again this year. I feel like, he’ll never get the credit he deserves especially with lists like this. And the fact that Kendrick Lamar alone wasn’t even in the list of 25 Mc’s to be considered for the list is a shame.

I am not the biggest Nicki Minaj fan, but I do think she should have been top 3. Tell me what artist had more #1 singles ‘last year’. Everybody wanted her on a feature. Also, brought in commercial endorsements so the buzz was huge. Two major tours, with Wayne and Britney Spears. Had major rap songs, did it on em and moment 4 life, and two major pop songs; Fly and Superbass. However, for the most part, I would think the list is ok. (Kanye should be #1.)

I respect Rick Ross as a good rapper, but I don’t think Rick Ross is a great, magnificant rapper by any means, and I can name at least 60 rappers who are far better lyrical rappers than Rick Ross. Rick Ross should not be Nummber 1 on MTV’s Hottest Mcs List. Rick Ross didn’t even put out an album in 2011, and only dropped mixtapes on the streets. Kanye West owned 2011 with both MBDTF, and Watch The Throne album, plus Watch The Throne Tour, and won 4 Grammy Awards this year, so Kanye West should be Number 1 on this list. Even Drake had a better year than Rick Ross, because Take Care is a very, good album, and Drake would had made a better choice for Number 1 than Rick Ross. Jay-Z should be ranked ahead of Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne because Jay-Z’s verses on Watch The Throne album were far better than Nicki Minaj’s verses on Pink Friday, and Lil Wayne’s verses on Tha Carter IV. Jay-Z had a better year than Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV went platinum, but quickly fell off the charts due to bad, critical reviews. Wiz Khalifia should not be on this list, Common, J.Cole, and Kendrick Lamar made better albums than Wiz Khalifia, so MTV made some bad mistakes with this list, which proves MTV knows nothing about real hip hop.

lol Rick Ross is a barely gold artist whose style is repetitive as hell.

The problem with these list are, it’s pretty obvious the panel members have biases. They don’t represent all or the average person’s opinion. Just by the way some of the clowns talk from the videos, you can tell they went into the list with bias.

MTV is a damn joke in general. Why are they using swag as a criteria, most of their categories can’t even be measured in something tangible.

J Cole wasn’t even on the list and he outsold Rick Ross, Wale, Big Sean, Meek Mill,etc. Which further lets me know these niggas clearly have some bias.

Then you have those dumbasses talking about WTT sounded like a Kanye album. Jay-z clearly lyrically outrapped Kanye in the whole album, maybe they are too dumb to look beneath the surface to catch on some of Jay-z lyrics.

Wale’s album has sold 350,000 to date, Big Sean has sold 300,000, Meek Mill hasn’t even put out an album yet. J Cole album has sold 530,000 copies and is still selling, his single Work Out is platinum and yet those other dudes are hotter than him?

Lil Wayne was the one who almost sold a million on its first week & Drake sold over 6OO,OOO on its first week too. if anythin Nicki shuda been 5th. Ross deserves that #1 spot. This list actually accurate, its not saying who the best MC’s are, its saying who the HOTTEST are, as in most featured, albums in heavy anticipation etc …if they were saying who the BEST MC was then this would be a different list, because we all know that as long as Eminem, T.I., Lupe, Nas etc are in the game they’ll be among the best MC’s, just maybe not the “hottest” in terms of most features or heavy anticipation in regards to albums being released.

The list isn’t bad. People forget that this isn’t a “best” mc list. It’s the current “hottest” mc. That being said. Eminem’s presence was still great in 2011, he should have been around 7-6 coming off his number 1 spot last year. Drake deserves the number 2 spot. Glad to see Big Sean there. However, I truly think Lil Wayne should have got the number 1 spot. Look back for a second. Weazy was on more singles and hits than any other artist. He was one almost every rapper’s album, not to mention releasing a platinum one himself as well as his “I’m Still Music” tour earlier in the year. He was on every remix, VMA’s, massive buzz around his skateboarding and his continuous success in being Young Money’s main man. Ross should be number 3.
