Dawn Richard spreads her wings and flies past her haters on her latest release “Fly.” The confident cut, produced by Deonté Music, will appear on the former Dirty Money diva’s upcoming EP Armor On, due March 27.
“I am the definition of fly/ Tell all you haters hi/ If you wit’ me, put your hands real high/ Nobody can do it like I,” boasts Dawn over the bass-heavy beat, for which a snippet previously leaked.

@RyanS, She’s not, she said on her Twitter that most of the songs she’s released in the last few weeks won’t even be on the EP so it’ll be all fresh material.

Dawn is talented and her pen game is always on point. the lyrics are wonderful but the production is not that good. she should have let Druski produce this- he would have done a better job.anyway her mixtape ‘a tell tale heart’ is way better than all the things she has been putting out so far. that mixtape was a classic and an album.

@Wow!, her pen game is so sick. she knows how to write them lyrics and turn them into masterpieces. but to me, her mixtape ‘a tell tale heart’ beats all she has been releasing. I prefer this song ‘Fly’ when she sang it at Rising icons event. The production here undermines the wonderful lyrics. I also like ‘change’ and the beats in it. but the mixtape – that is one classic and should have been an album.

@yuppitsme, You sound like Kaleena. And why should Dawn worry about Kaleena’s mixtape? When Dawn’s mixtape had over 1mil+ downloads, please. And why is Kaleena on Dawn’s time line.

@REALLY, your point was?? she had 1mil downloads and still aint nowhere to be found lmaooo to be quite honest neither one of them is going to get anywhere solo so it doesnt matter but the truth of the matter is Kalenna’s material is better than Dawns thats all im saying

@yuppitsme, She is somewhere to be found because I noticed her, and so did others. And going somewhere takes time trust me I know. All she need is GOD on her side, and the right label behind her. You are not GOD, so you DEFINITELY can’t predict the future. And again why should Dawn be worried about Kaleena’s mixtape when she had 1mil+ downloads, MESSY.

I hate to say this because I fucks with Dawn but if she don’t come with something commercial then she’ll remain an unsigned artist.
Don’t get me wrong I respect the integrity of an artist but if you look at an artist like Miguel who IMO is kinda similar to the artist Dawn is, he kept his artistic integrity but still made music that’s for radio.

I am happy she is finally getting the recognition she deserves. This girl is a BEAST when it comes to harmonies, melodies, and writing. I am sorry but your favorites don’t have shit on Ms. Richard.

Hate her voice with any effects on it. Sorry. Her voice is too strong for effects. Let the girl SING! Too much noise! I’ll listen to “Press Pause” from Danity Kane until she wakes up to what her voice is capable of.

@Chillboyx, thank you for saying that. this production is more than a mess. too much going on. i dont understand why she worked with this producer. i really hope she is not planning to work with this producer ever again! the lyrics of this song are too ‘Fly’ for this kind of messy and noisy production. i am a fan but this production right here NO WAY!!!! There is no harmony whatsoever between her singing and the beats. its as if the producer is making beats to a different song entirely
[Reply]
February 29th, 2012 at 1:25 pm
as a fan, somebody should advice Dawn never to work with this producer. she should stick with Druski or the producers she worked with on ‘a tell tale heart’. i do understand her concept about changing the game but please when you are changing the game, do it with class and quality not this messy, uncordinated beats. the lyrics are dope but the beats and production – a big total mess.

Dawnie.I am a supporter of your music and movement but I have to be honest and agree with some of the comments here. You have come this far and being around great music to accept this noisy production. I know you want to make music for everyone but this is not it. The lyrics are too wonderful to be spoiled by this sort of production. If you are thinking of a club music, your song ‘Runway’ was good, the fast beats and everything was co-ordinated unlike this one. I do not know where you found the producer for this record but it was not a good choice. I agree with the person that mentioned your rising icon event – the beats and the way you sang this song there flowed beautifully. Dawnie, I believe in you and your vision. Please I do not want that to change. Where was Druski when you agreed to this production?
