Rap-Up TV: Da Internz Talk Making of Rihanna & Chris Brown’s ‘Birthday Cake’

Rihanna caused a firestorm when she released the remix to “Birthday Cake” featuring ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. Now get the recipe behind the year’s most-talked-about collaboration from hitmaking duo Da Internz.

Marcos “Kosine On Da Beat” Palacios and Ernest “Tuo” Clark didn’t have enough time to finish the original track in order to make the cutoff for Rihanna’s album Talk That Talk. So after demand from the fans, the pop star decided to record an extended version of the interlude and release it online.

In an exclusive sit-down with Rap-Up TV, the producers shared how the controversial collaboration came together, explained why they initially refuted Chris’ involvement when asked on Twitter, and brushed off the criticism.

“We delivered a damn smash,” said Tuo. “Everybody’s getting caught up in the fact that it is Rihanna, it is Chris, it’s a duet, but don’t lose sight of the fact that before Chris hits and does the extended version of ‘Birthday Cake,’ we had a minute and some change of a record that the world was saying, ‘We need this.’”

Not sure if they had any say to the remix I do feel for these guys coz that song without Chrisbrown was a hit and it was going to be one of those greatest hits out there dont get me wrong I support CB 100% but I just didnt like his version as for the controversy I get why pple are mad if they realy wanted to collab after what happened btwn them this was a bad choice bad song bad choice of lyrics they should have started with remixing We Found Love at least that song has a message towards what may have contributed to their violent love affair. I hope CB team will help this child he is talented not sure if the idea of colab or even going back together is out of love or lust or his team thought that might be a good move for his career at this point it is a very bad choice Rihanna will always be a victim and will have sympathy votes and Chris you will always be known as women beater until you do somrthing to prove that you have changed not snatching phones from girls or twitter rants

@Josh, Actually you are wrong, this remix is the most new adds other than Usher this year on the Urban radio station. The request and the spins has been crazy according to radio experts. They are playing the remix in the clubs not the original. Chris made it extra hot because of their past relationship.

  12. 100% Amazing

Domestic abuse is experienced around the world every minute, NONE of them has been punished as much as Chris Brown for it. YET punishing Chris Brown hasn’t impacted the cases of domestic abuse around the world in any way.

Domestic abuse is an individual action, and victimizing someone to death in America will not help a woman in China, Africa or India.

You guys need to think of a new strategy for tackling domestic abuse because “Rihanna & Chris’s (single brutal MUTUAL fight in car) is a very poor example of domestic abuse.

He was talking about twitter. Someone in RihannaNavy was like “please tell me it isn’t that convicted felon…” And she said something else but I can’t remember -____- ignorant bitch. I hope she sees this and feels bad.

I personally never liked that Birthday Cake song and Chris being on it didn’t change that. I don’t think their voices gel that well together and CB didn’t fit the song but its out so…

Currently waiting for Fortune to be released.

@josh nah actually with Chris on it everyone is gonna remember them for being the producers of the Rihanna & Chris song. That will be remembered for a long long time and with Chris that song could be even bigger than it would of if only it would be released to itunes… no matter how critical SOME people might be the song is HOT and people would buy it plus alot of people love contreversy too.

If it would of just been anyone else the song would of been just another hit single from Rihanna that would of done good but people would forget in about 2yrs or so or they would underwhelm or compare it to Dance (A$$) but not now cause everybody is singing CAKE CAKE CAKE instead of A$$ A$$ A$$. radio is eating it UP !

Personally, I don’t mind them being on a song together. If she has the stetrgnh to forgive him and work on a track with him, then that is her decision and more power to her. They are both talented artist, I just wish the context of the song was better and they collaborated on an original song instead of each other’s remixes. Its obvious that they don’t care what the media thinks of their decision to collaborate or work together. I think that for Chris being on a song with Rihanna is also his way of getting back at the media, it is his way of saying, if the person that I abused forgives me and can work with me again, America can forgive me as well. As far as why Rihanna is doing it, it is another way for her to prove her so called rebel image, its her way of saying, f**k the media as well.
