Rap-Up.com || Frank Ocean, Rita Ora Set to Open for Coldplay’s European Tour

Frank Ocean and Rita Ora are bringing their music to the masses. The much-buzzed-about newcomers will join Coldplay on the band’s stadium tour through Europe this summer.

The 22-date trek kicks off May 18 in Porto, Portugal, before traveling through France, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, and other European countries with various opening acts including Ocean, Ora, Robyn, Ash, and Marina & the Diamonds.

Jay-Z’s friendship with frontman Chris Martin helped score his Roc Nation signee Ora an opening spot. The blonde singer will tour with the band in May and June in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, and the U.K. Her debut is due this summer featuring the singles “How We Do (Party)” and the Drake-penned “R.I.P.”

Odd Future crooner Ocean, who covered Coldplay’s “Strawberry Swing” on his free album Nostalgia, Ultra, will debut new material when the tour touches down in Denmark, Sweden, France, and Germany in August and September. “Setlist full of that new new too. Man o man!” he wrote.

@Mary J, exactly. this is a good look for Rita and Frank, but i’m not sure it’s a great idea overall, particularly for Coldplay’s audience. this will def test jay’s and chris’ relationship.

J Cole opened up for Rihanna and Jay-z opened up for U2 last year and 2 years ago. It’s about cross branding and tapping into that pop audience. Contrary to popular belief this ain’t the 1950′s where people only listen to specific genres. People nowadays listen to all type of music, music isn’t as homogenous as it was in the past.

Nice switch up from “Party & Bullsh*t” to “How We Do (Party)” i knew that Jay-Z business sense wouldn’t let that tItle stick. I like this chick but I didn’t really care for the R.I.P. song. They need to keep her music upbeat or at least give her a decent Drake ballad. R.I.P. just wasn’t it in my opinion.

Ok. NO WAY! I had no idea Strawberry Swings was a Coldplay cover. I love Frank Ocean’s version. I will have to check their version out now. I’ve been listening to Ocean’s mixtape for the last few weeks. He just might be my new favorite songwriter. I love American Wedding, Dust, Lovecrimes, There Will Be Tears and Swim Good. One of the best mixtapes ever!
