Rap-Up.com || Justin Bieber’s New Single Compared to Justin Timberlake, Ying Yang Twins

Justin Bieber’s love for hip-hop is influencing his new sound. The pop sensation shows off his rap skills on his new single “Boyfriend,” which is being compared to Justin Timberlake and the Ying Yang Twins.

The teen idol’s first single from his upcoming album Believe was produced by Mike Posner. Mick Lee, a DJ on Baltimore’s Z104.3, had a chance to hear the record in advance of its March 26 release and described it is a mix of Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack” and ‘N Sync’s “Girlfriend.”

“Wow….so much different than his previous music,” wrote Lee. “AND get this… he raps…best comparison is it sounds like ‘Wait’ by the Ying Yang Twins.”

This would not be the Biebs first time rapping. He busted out some rhymes on his Christmas album Under the Mistletoe and collaborations with Chris Brown and Jaden Smith. He also freestyled over Biggie’s “Who Shot Ya?” and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Otis” during radio station visits.

The follow-up to 2010’s My World 2.0 is expected to have a more mature and urban sound judging from Bieber’s collaborators, which include Pharrell, Drake, Timbaland, Danja, Hit-Boy, will.i.am, Diplo, and more.

P.S. Truebozz, there is difference between being influenced & copying. Listening to JT, you get MJ, Prince, Otis Redding, etc … JB just sounds live another “white kid” being pushed into the urban market for more financial gain by his handlers.

@Lauryn, Have you ever even listened to his music? He has soulful songs. He obviously has soul in his voice. He’s not just a pop artist, he sings R&B too. Just because hes white doesn’t mean he can’t do urban music. You’re just judging him off the one song you know by him. Until you actually explore and listen to his music you can’t say he’s trying to be something hes not. Quite possibly he just loves the hip hop/urban culture.

JT grew up in a southern baptist church singing gospel and listening to Al green and marvin Gaye, what gives him any less right to do RnB/hip hop than the next man? Here’s a little lesson:
When Darius Rucker started out with Hootie and the Blowfish in the early 90′s, people (especially white people) loved their sound. Rucker himself has said in the past that he faced EXTREME RACISM at the hands of the “proclaimed” Hootie and the Blowfish fans. Once they say their videos and realized that they were listening to a black man on a guitar instead of your run-of-the-mill white guy through their radio speakers, they flipped and made all types of threats, including boycotting their music. Welcoming this man with open arms, eh? I don’t think so. Besides Darius Rucker and Lenny Kravitz, there are NO black artists making rank in the rock or country genres. Period.

The POINT IS, black artists are not able to crossover into predominately white music markets in the same way that whites can crossover in predominately black music markets. There is a coined term for white artists in R&B because so many of them became popular. This term is known as, “Blue-Eyed Soul”. There have also been a substantial amount of white rappers making a name for themselves in hip-hop (Eminem, Bubba Sparxx, Yelawolf, Mac Miller, MGK, Iggy Azalea, etc) .

SO STOP ACTING BLIND. Race, racism, and undercover racism are all prevalent in this country and world, including the music industry. I know many personally in the industry that have encountered such problems, which indicates that this is VERY MUCH ABOUT RACE.

@Lizzie, I’m just making my point clear. It’s evident that no white artists are being excluded from the black community, given the success Justin Timberlake and Eminem (among others) have had.

It’s only the black artists that can’t easily make their way into rock and country. This type of talk sheds light on the issue as opposed to covering it up like it doesn’t exist. You’re right that all races of people can exhibit racially insensitive behavior, but when was the last time black people boycotted a white artist because of their skin color?

Everyone should be able to make the kind of music they want, bottom line – without the racism.

I don’t think anyone is envious of or hating on his skin color. If anything, it’s that he’s trying to use the urban market to further capitalize, having already achieved a substantial amount of mainstream success in the pop market. So get out of here with that nonsense.

@Lizzie, Nicki Minaj crosses over in to dance/pop music. Many black people have already made incredible contributions to dance/pop music and have helped established the genre for musicians of all races to follow. These artists include Grace Jones, Donna Summer, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, La Bouche, and countless others from the 80′s and 90′s. In addition, the whole “DJ scene” in the dance/pop genre originated from Hip-Hop and its pioneers, so… I don’t think so.

However, the influx of “white rappers” and r&b singers is fairly new. R&B and Hip-Hop comes from an authentic place and is traditionally based on specific locations where the artists come from (ex. Chicago Blues, New Orleans Jazz, Philly Soul, NY Rap, etc.) If the white artists that attempt to make R&B and Hip-Hop are from areas that don’t coincide with the authenticity or roots of the genres, it comes off fraudulent. Bieber comes from Canada, Iggy Azalea comes from Australia, Justin, Yelawolf and others come from small, predominately white towns in the South. R&B and Hip-Hop was originally based on the experiences of black people and the communities that they live in. Dance, Pop, Rock, etc all universal genres. Dance clubs and rock bars didn’t originate in a specific place, so there is a major difference here.

Plus, black artists are not able to crossover as easily as white artists How many black rock stars do you know? Case Closed.

Okay this whole conversation is pure rubbish. I ever since JT started his solo career he’s set up ANY white kid that comes after him that wqnts to get Into the RnB game to be compared to him. The samw with Eminem and the white Rapper after him.

I LOVE JT believe me I was the first in line for his Future/Sex/Love/Sound tour, and ill always remember that day! But I also like Justin’s music. I always thought before Justins first single came out that he would do better with the RnB style music.

I didnt know that to relate to hip hop you had to beat the shit outta people, knock your girl up, be a deadbeat parent, try and start s–t with everyone, and what not. Pretty sad and messed up that no one really knows where hip hop really resonated from. The caribbean is where it all began and it was mainly a giant community circle that gathered in the town for a few days to play bongos and dance. The correct vernacular you are probably looking for is rap. However its not a black related genre. Rap is to express s–t you have been through in life. It doesn’t have to be hardcore. JB has been through some stuff in his life and he’s using good stepping stones to branch out of the pop culture into the hip jop/r&b scene. Don’t hate on the kid cause he has mad talent. Can EVERYONE stfu please? Lol…NOW, HE DEFINITELY IS TRYING TO SOUND LIKE J.T…Idgaf what yous think but you gotta think of it this way, j.b needs to pay bills like everyone els. You and I both know that, that “baby,baby” 12 year old girl shit wouldn’t last forever so as an artist you have to put on your thinking cap and take notes of the others who did it big, think of ways to keep the money coming in. “Switch it up”. I can’t stand the dude but I respect that as an artist he’s thinking of ways to reinvent himself but what I don’t respect is that he’s trying to get into rap but dosent write his own shit and the sad thing is “his” raps are wack. But yeah if he’s becoming this gimmick then its his choice….
