New Music: Melody Thornton – ‘P.O.Y.B.L’ [Mixtape]![]() After keeping her fans patiently waiting, Melody Thornton embarks on her solo career with the release of her debut mixtape P.O.Y.B.L (Piss On Your Black List). The former Pussycat Doll reveals her battles in love, music, and faith on the free release, which incorporates instrumentals from the ’60s and ’70s. In addition to the single “Sweet Vendetta” and remake of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild” (“Lipstick&Guilt”), the 10 tracks consist of five remakes and four originals all written by Melody. The “soul-pop” offering includes production from Andre Harris (“Smoking Gun”), Church and State (“Sweet Vendetta”), Mark Vinten (“Intro”), and Melody on the self-produced “Hit the Ground Runnin’,” plus a duet with Bobby Newberry on the La Roux cover “Bulletproof.” “Piss On Your Black List has nothing to do with being a rebel or fighting against anything. It has everything to do with fighting for myself,” said Melody. “It’s clever with attitude. It’s kind of funny and gets a strong reaction; all things that, at times, describe my art.” Stream/download P.O.Y.B.L below.

This is dope. The music is pretty fresh, vocals are strong, interesting creative direction and the mixtape title is perfect haha. If she’s naming her debut album “Hit the Ground Album” that’s pretty fitting. Good for her.

Love Lipstick&Guilt and the cover of Bulletproof works well. Unlike some mix tapes which can be a little ropey in places this is a strong and solid entry. Looking forward to hearing what she does next.

This is more than amazing. In todays business where richkids buy success with their mum and dads money we need someone who is young but has seen ups and downs. we need survivors in this business to look up to.
vacolas are distinctive and strong, 60ies and Motown references work fantastically well with her voice, she has content and sassyness…If she manages to bring sophistication to the visuals she is a done deal.
I truely am impressed.
really well done!
Even Showgirls sing the blues!

Hitting the ground is simply BREATH-TAKING. For some odd reason, I get the feeling a lot of these songs were written with Nicole in mind.

And this chick was in the background of the Pussycat Dolls???? I understand all about getting your foot in the door but damn Melody, this is possibly the best mix tape Ive ever heard, besides Drake’s early stuff. I can’t believe the talent, skill, vocal range, strength, passion that this mix tape possesses. Good job melody. I look forward to your debut solo album…give em hell.

I love all the girls from PCD are coming out with new things; Melody’s vocals are on point. Jessica has some great dance pop stuff and Kimberly has a new band called Her Majesty and the wolves you lot should check them both out. I don’t know why Nicole and the PCD staff slept on such talent but I’m glad we are enjoying it now!!
