New Music: Diggy Simmons – ‘Unexpected Arrival’ [Full Album]

Unexpected Arrival

Diggy Simmons follows in his famous father’s footsteps with the release of his debut album Unexpected Arrival, landing in stores Tuesday. The 12 tracks include collaborations with Jadakiss (“88”), Tank (“Special Occasion”), and Jeremih (“Do It Like You”), with production from Da Internz, Pop & Oak, and D’Mile.

“It has a lot of shock value to it and it’s definitely just a great project,” the 16-year-old phenom told Rap-Up TV. “Sonically it’s just something that you can listen to from top to bottom. Each song is different, but they all just feel great.”

i am very, very surprised just like what @true story said it’s very solid piece of work, no #1 one hits but that’s not what makes an album great

I admire his ambition. He’s wise, not necessarily beyond his years, just wise. He delivered a nice album with solid tracks. He has his moments where he reminds me of Yeezy, but Diggy definitely knows himself as an artist. For now, I don’t dig the music to the point where I am going to buy this album, but I’ll for sure keep an eye on this kid and his upcoming projects.

@Mentamir, I agree 100% @Will is probably JoJo. I should have never reblogged this post if I knew JoJo was gonna find it! I to, was completely blown away by Diggy’s debut but to but it on the level of WTT or a Masterpiece in My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is just Blashamous!!!

Album of The Year hands down. This dude is only 16 and has an album as good as a veteran like Kanye or Nas. I dont care what anybody says i havent heard an album better than this for a while.

    [Reply]

    Mentamir Reply:

@Will, I am not knocking your opinion, but do you really consider this album to be as good as a Kanye or Nas album? Diggy is really good, but I’d categorize him to be at the same level as Drake. He definitely has room for progress. With his age, he’ll catch up and surpass them, he’s just not there yet in my opinion.

    [Reply]

    Will Reply:

@Mentamir, Hell no this is strickly a Hip Hop album both Drakes LP’s were a R&B/Hip Hop album. If u want to compare Unexpected Arrivial to Thank Me Later or Take Care this is clearly a better album for sure. The lyricial content, production is better. Remember this is Diggys Debut album.

    [Reply]

    Will Reply:

@Mentamir, Why compare him to drake? Diggy doesnt sing what is it cause there both light skinned? Diggy is stricktly a Hip hop artist and its apparent. If anything i would compare Diggy to J Cole not Drake.

    [Reply]

    Mentamir Reply:

@Will, I didn’t compare him to Drake. Just as I wouldn’t compare him to J. Cole. I don’t compare artist. I was talking about the quality of the album. Yes, Drake talks about different topics and has different production, but the level at which he operates is what I would say Diggy is at. Of course they’re completely different artists. No doubt, Diggy is very talented, but I’m not going to sit up here and act like this album is more than it actually is. It was a very good album and I did keep his age in mind. I am not downgrading this album. Not at all. For his age, he delivered a damn masterpiece. But if we’re looking at it musically, just for what it is, without image and age included, it’s not on the level of a Ye or Nas album. And that’s fine, ’cause the kid is 16 and has, like I said, room for improvement. And I don’t know why you bring up skintone? Why would that even be a topic to discuss?

    [Reply]

    Really though? Reply:

@Mentamir, Same level as Drake? Are you serious? You must have lost your motherf****** mind!

    [Reply]

    Mentamir Reply:

@Really though?, from you comment I can’t make up whether you either think Drake is not on Diggy’s level or vice versa… I guess you think Drake is not on Diggy’s level. Well, I am serious. You don’t have to agree with me, though. People hear different things, see different things, feel different ways. It’s all good.

    [Reply]

    Really Though? Reply:

@Mentamir, Diggy is not on Drake’s level. That’s what I’m trying to say. I don’t know how you think otherwise, but it’s your opinion. (thank god)

    [Reply]

    Mentamir Reply:

@Really Though?, I thought otherwise because you jumped in on a discussion where the other person compared Diggy to be at Ye’s level. But as I said, your comment wasn’t really stating anything in particular except for that you disagreed with something. Don’t know what the ”thank God” is for. Thought that was kind of uncalled for. Like you couldn’t resist taking a little jab just to make yourself feel like your opinion is superior or some shit. Just disagree and keep it moving. Don’t come at people sideways like that, it kind of ruins the entire purpose of having your own opinion and respecting other people’s opinions.

    Really Though? Reply:

@Mentamir?, Oh, my opinion is superior, I’m sure.

    Irsuh Reply:

@Will, im sorry but no one in their right mind takes you seriously right now bro. im all for freedom of opinion but there’s a limit beyond which you just sound stupid. i actually feel embarrassed for you right now

    [Reply]

    Will Reply:

@Irsuh, Embarassed for me? Cmonson i dont feel embarrased for shit. If u listen to Diggys lyrics there just as good as Kanye or Nas. People are always so afraid to keep it real just cause its a young act or they come from a rich family does that make them not capable of being lyrical? Thats why i question some of yall that listen to music do yall actually listen or just skim through it.

    [Reply]

    Mentamir Reply:

@Will, you’re assuming too much. Keeping it real is not sugarcoating things. I kept it very real, by giving credit where it is due, but also letting people know that there is room for growth. This album was good, but the lyrics are pretty easy to understand, it didn’t leave me thinking. A Ye album would be a lot more complex and that’s where I think you’re wrong. Diggy is lyrical. Kanye and Nas are lyrical heavyweights. Diggy is just a pretty lyrical kid for his age. It almost feels like you don’t really listen and pay attention to the overall sound and quality of an album, but you just hear a few tracks, like those tracks and suddenly dub the album as being Album of the Year. Irsuh is making a point. You sound stupid. You sound like you don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m sorry.

@Mentamir, When i listen to an album i listen to it from Top to Bottom without skipping any tracks. My 3 favorite Hip Hop albums of all time are Nas’ Illmatic and Notorious BIG Ready To Die. Both Classics. I have very good taste in music but i literally listened to this album in amazment and couldnt believe how good it was obviously its not on the level of those albums but for a 16 year old rap artist it wont get better than this i guarantee you. What 16 year old Hip hop artist had a better debut album than this one right here? I’ll Wait…..

    [Reply]

    Mentamir Reply:

@Will, I am sure you do have great taste in music, but reading your reply it boils down to that we basically feel the exact same way. Your amazement, however, was translated in a way where it just came off as nonsense. You agree with me on the fact that Unexpected Arrival is not on the level of the albums and artists you mentioned but that it is an incredible body of work from such a young artist. Pretty much what I said the entire time.

    Truth Reply:

Rakim drop his debut album at 17 and it was a classic! Nas was working Illmatic since he was teenager.

    Will Reply:

@Mentamir, I meant to say 2 favorite but ill add in my third with Eminem Marshal Mathers LP. Another classic.

Why are people attacking @Mentamir for making valid points? lol diggy has a nice album right here, but it isnt amazing, similar to the way many ppl feel about drakes ablum’s. that’s it. the emotive self effacing rap style is comparable to drake, thats all the was being said.

    [Reply]

    Really Though? Reply:

@Tony, Nobody’s attacking anybody. I simply disagreed, that’s all. And I stand by what I said. I’m sure you do also.

I don’t know… I really feel like IF it was a different kid the world would look at the music differently like I’ve seen some (not many) dismiss it because of his last name. Definitely happy to see honest comments though because there’s no debating if this is great hip hop music.. shit great music in general. There’s influences from other genres on here and it’s done well too. I think the world as a whole will eventually come around on him as an artist and will embrace him as a great one. Bravo to the kid!

  17. Bizz

Good for a debut…even better for a debut from a 16 year old. Kind of repetitive with the whole “they slept on me” concepts, but there’s really not much else for him to talk about with 16 years worth of life experiences. Overall, an impressive body of work. (this statement coming from someone who actually spent the last hour listening to the album thoroughly)

You have to stop with this great effort and good for a 16 year old. This album is good period. very good. His debut album is better than any rappers debut in the last 3-4 years; Drake, J Cole, Big Sean, Asher Roth, Wiz, Wale included. Only rapper it isn’t better than is Kendrick.

This album is a classic idc what anyone says and this dude is only 16 years old just incredible blown away by this album reminds me of true 90′s hip hop most the songs could have easily came out in the 90′s. It has that classic feel to it u dont hear albums like this anymore u just dont.

Wow… This was a GREAT debut album. I’m a 21 yr. old male saying this. Diggy knows what he’s doing. I’m not even that surprised because I was sold ever since I hear Shook Ones and Made You Look. You can tell Diggy is a student of the game which we need more of in hip-hop. I love that he not trying to live life in his fathers shadow he released this album under Diggy not Diggy Simmons unlike JoJo who calls himself Young Simmons lol… Unforgivable Blackness shatters anything else I heard in a long time. Lyricaly he up there with J. Cole, Drake, and Big Sean. To 100% honest I think he better than Wale. Great beat selection to damn this is a solid debut. I love The Sideline Story but this has to be the best debut since Food & Liquor.

@Ice I been trying to tell ppl that. I don’t understande how rappers like 2 Chainz, French Montana, and Future get buzz. But an artist like Diggy comes around and gets overlooked. Hopefully when people hear this album they will finally see what is still capable in hip-hop in this day & age.

I’m so sick of people who hate on Diggy. It’s not his fault that his father is Run and that has nothing to do with him beating. I’m sure most of you posting negative comments are just jealous that you can not rap better than him. I’m not saying you have to like him but sheesh. And some people were saying that Jadakiss had the best verse? He was not talking about drugs? Apparently this is what you have to rap about in order to be a rapper right? Oh and you say you do not like Diggy but you had time to listen to your music anyway? Admirers confused. This is his first album, of course he will get better over the next year. Cut him some slack. Do not forget to buy UA 20/03/12 :)
