Rap-Up.com || Dawn Richard Covers Prince, Frank Ocean at SXSW Showcase

With a week to go before the release of her EP Armor On, Dawn Richard brought her live show to the frontlines of SXSW with an intimate set at Cielo in Austin. The Hearts leader commanded the stage with her interlude “Change” mixed with Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U” and also reprised her remix of Frank Ocean’s “Novacane.” Also check out the promo photo for the EP’s first single “Bombs,” inspired by her New Orleans heritage.

Love Dawn!!! Can’t wait for EP 3.27.12 However, I want her to hire a reputable stylist!!! It looks like she came out of the Sauna and threw a towel around her neck. I am all for trying to be fashion forward. But ya’ll be honest!! It was a missed shot this time. Please hire a STYLIST, they keep you fashion forward, but they reel u in when it is just wrong. Music though is tight.

I just can FEEL the eyes & ears opening for Dawn. I been ridin’ with this woman since the beginning – when the nay-sayers were everywhere! They said she was “too dark or ugly”. Her voice was “too deep.” When they blamed her for Danity Kane’s break-up. When they said her talent isn’t what got her in Dirty Money. But, here she is. Still going! Making a statement. You have no choice but to respect her drive & commitment to her artistry. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for her. That way I can say “I told you so!!! Golden Heart heaux!!” Haha : )
