    To all readers:

I apologize ahead of time for a miserable person whose been goin’ around spittin’ out hatred using “brainfood.com’s” name.

Screw notariety. I’m just sorry that this person has more energy to not only give out negative vibes, but also continually spread it in hopes of, I guess, discrediting brainfood.com’s supposed credibility.

If this “brainfood.com” says anything about race or someone bein’ better than another, or anything that really doesn’t ring “POSITIVE,” It’s probably not me. I’m usually slammed for bein “self-righteous….” but never negative. More than likely, it’s the sad little being that still can’t handle the fact that they are more miserable than words can express.

I can understand if you don’t give a crap. BUT, if you happen to come across a negative brainfood…just kill it with kindness! It hates that!!!

“I Am Your Leader” sounds kind of hot! That’s mixtape Nicki. Can’t wait to hear “Champion” for Nas & Nicki’s verse. Drake verse was cool on it. “Sex in the Lounge” is ok to. The hook was kinda long. I actually was surprised that I liked “Young Forever” but it felt kinda like a Katy Perry song. “Whip It” didn’t do it for me. More of a pop offering. Still kept the rap fan in me kinda satisfied. I respect & love the diversity. She took a gamble & it might pay off. Definitely went all out. Still wish she’d do some other rap than swag rap. Nicki isn’t here to cater to just the hip hop fans. With the success of Super Bass she opened up an entire lane of pop fans and in order to avoid alienating them with hardcore raps the entire album, she made sure there was a section of the album just for them. It sounds like she had fun and tried to appeal to all of her fans instead of just rap fans. I applaud her for the effort. It sounds good, and I’ve already had my album preordered…I knew it was a good choice<3

No one is hating on Nickis pop crossover.
Excuse me for being blunt but she had ONE pop hit.
This does not mean she should go and add like 10 pop songs to her album.
She should have slowly transitioned into Pop without alienating her Urban fan base.
She has only had one album and I just think all this pop is too much and two soon!
Her first Pop crossover hit had her rapping… and now she is full blown singing

So what is the concept of this album again? Roman Reloaded. Okay, so that means it’s going to be a showcase for her “Roman” character – which means, crazy – lyrical – beast, right? Oh. But none of these songs are talking about anything. Oh. But 40% of this album is half-hearted hip-hop and 60% is dance music. Oh. I would say it’s all over the place, but I guess she strategically placed all the pop songs at the end, and all the half-hearted hip hop songs up front. I just … can’t respect this. If Soulja-boy type music was popping right now, I guarantee you she would be making a bunch of that and saying that’s “who she really is.” I can’t.

At the end of the day, how is Nicki’s legacy gonna be remembered? Super Bass, Stupid Hoe, Your Love?? Thats what u contributed to the culture. Jay-Z gave us Cant Knock The Hustle, Empire State Of Mind, and more classics. and Kanye gave us Jesus Walks and All Of The Lights, Flashing Lights, etc. Nicki’s more concerned with hit records then making music that impacts the culture in a way to push HipHop forward as an art form. Nicki had the chance to stand for something and so far she has failed. She has some fun songs, yea, her outfits are entertaining but in the end, a decade from now, we will have to tell our kids this was the top female rapper of our time and thats a fact Im embarrassed to say smh. Her stans and Barbs will acccept anything from her at this point and that does Nicki no good when u dont be honest and push her to be better.

@KC, Nicki said it best, “You can’t rap and sing on the same cd, the public won’t get it, they got A.D.D.”

Music is an art. It’s a form of expression. Saying that one should only express a certain part of their personality is ridiculous. Nicki is diverse. This album is her. There’s a little something for everyone. She didn’t walk into the studio thinking, “I’m going to make a hip-hop album” or “I’m going to make a pop album.” She just expressed herself. That’s all it is. Defining it is pointless because no artist should be confined by one genre.

There are some nice hip hop songs on the album so it will feed me i still have her mixtapes and original pinfriday so this will be perfect to add to the collection. Nice variety of sounds on this album. It’s so much more diverse and well-rounded than her last CD. Kudos for Nicki for taking some chances and not getting stuck in the same sluggish groove as most R&B/Hip-hop artists have been stuck in for the last 5 years. No wonder why she’s one of the few artists from the R&B/Hip-hop genre to garner mass appeal in the hood and out.

She can’t sing and the songs sound forced and formulaic. As for the rap…no comment.

I can pick 5 songs that should’ve been nixed in Post-Production. NOT AS A HIP-HOP OR POP FAN, JUST AS A FAN OF MUSIC.
12-14, gone. 16-17, out. That’s it. this would’ve guaranteed her a balanced album without going over-board on the Top 40 records. The hip-hop/rap portion is really on point but this singing…. ehh. Overall, I’d buy it just cause it’s at least well produced and entertaining. I’m going on a road trip so I’ll be able to use it as something to keep me awake. 3.5 of 5 stars IMO.

ummmm this sucks!!! and it needs to be called a pop album. More pop tracks than anything else. Any other female rapper didnt have to turn to pop to sell. Their rap songs sells. Nicki’s pops songs sell and they sound like the rihanna’s and Katie’s of the world and she isnt even as good as the two. I just dont see the hype with her. She isnt herself, mixtape nicki didnt do voices and funny faces. She wanted to be the next lil kim and she didnt accomplish that. Kim is a rapper and got her accolades rapping. NICKI DID NOT! I cant hate on the money she getting and endorsements but its not rap and you nicki fans really need to realize that. Her raps arent even good the best verse she has done was monster, nothing she rapped after is better but I can name a few Kim, Foxy, Eve verses that are better than what she spit on monster. Sorry folks your favorite “female rapper” is a “pop star” #getittogether

I think she tried way too hard at doing different genres of music and putting them into one album…the album lacks direction; there’s no concept or focus…the Title doesn’t even seem to fit with this collection of songs…it’s like she recorded random shyt and through it all together…she definitely took a gamble with this one!!

I already expected for it to be lots of pop so I wasn’t surprised…honestly, she should’ve just recorded ONE rap/urban album and ONE pop album, and sold them separately! THAT would’ve been the “Smart” thing to do, since all she really cares about is gettin that money!

Overall, I think the production saved the album (because Nicki ain’t really talkin bout much on these songs), but there are a few solid tracks ie. “Right By My Side”, “I Am Your Leader”, and “Champion”….like I said, the rest of the songs have good beats, I could enjoy them without Nicki’s voice, i’m just sayin…

    [Reply]

  135. SOMETHING TO THE BEAT!!!!!!

I honestly love the record, its a amazing choice of records, im sure she had fun, that obviously was the point, i think by listening to the snippets you really cant get the full lyrical effect, and 45 secs per song if lets say every song ruffly ends at 4 mins tops…. Perfect way to branch out into pop, As any artist in the music industry you might want a top 40 hit, and to keep up with the digital world we live in as far as downloads shes on the right track and shes got lots more to come, i love it even better than Pink Friday, after all this is only the sequel to the Pink Friday brand,,,, but ummmm 2012 is here and now and this ish is whats hot, it will sell, no doubt i see Nicki as an artist before a rapper or anything else with all the persona dram she got going on, shes marketing herself well if u ask me!!! Shes to relevant to popular culture shes changing the game and everyone hates change!!!!!!!!!!!!

This album is an accumulation of everything that Nicki Minaj has been through to date. With accumulating a very large and diverse fan base, Nicki has also accumulated a lot of “haters.” But Those haters, in my opinion, hate Nicki because they don’t understand. When people listen to music, they look for a specific genre. They look for a label to stamp on that person as to what kind of music they are listening to. Nicki, though she was that cypher queen in the beginning, can no longer be limited to just being a rap artist. Very few people know that Nicki has been a songwriter for a while. She just never thought that she would be the one to sing the pop and R&B records that she wrote. She thought that she had to be an artist that stuck to one genre, even though her idol is Lauryn Hill, a female rapper and R&B sensation. Her first album, Pink Friday, disappointed a lot of her hip hop fans because she went with a more pop feel for that album. She had a very limited hip hop sound on that album. Her original fan base felt neglected, as if Nicki had traded in her rap game with her black hair and bamboo earrings for an assortment of wigs and a pop career. Nicki, however, did not. Sure she explored a different sound, but that sound made her a superstar around the world. It made her this because she can take her hip hop sound and put it on a pop record and execute it flawlessly without losing herself. With this new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Nicki is definitely giving her hip hop fans what they want. She has some real rap records on this album. Her rhymes won’t just be about generic things anymore, though. You’ll have to know what’s going on in Nicki’s life to understand her lyrically. When she says “Nicki pop? Only thing that’s pop is my endorsement, Ock!” in Roman Reloaded, she is referring to her new multi-million dollar Pepsi endorsement deal. When she says “I’m really sitting with Anna! Front row at Oscar DeLaRenta, posture. Not a bitch I could do it, not even my impostor” in Come On a Cone, she is referring to her sitting in the front row of the Oscar DeLaRenta fashion show next to Anna Wintour, the Editor in Chief of Vogue Magazine. She has some R&B crossover records, also. And of course, the rival of rap, pop. But not just any pop, Techno pop. This is the music that upsets her rap fans. But real fans of Nicki know that she is creating a brand. And creating a multi-faceted brand entails making a wide variety of music. Also, after hearing the success of songs like Turn Me On and Where Dem Girls At, Why not?! Why not give the people what they want? Hardcore rap cannot be played on major radio because of it’s high profanity content. It cannot be marketed to the consumer, just heard through the streets. The music that gives an artist superstar status is pop. Nicki can execute major pop records at will, music that she wrote. This music is necessary for her to become the mogul that she sets herself out to be. Also, in other countries, pop music, especially dance music is extremely popular. Not everyone in other countries can speak english. Rap, a lyrical genre, can usually only be understood by people that speak some sort of english. Dance music, however, is more of a feeling. Feel the music, get up and dance. That’s what many europeans and asians will enjoy, because it can connect with them on a level that lyrics cannot. This album can confuse some, but it will entertain many. The album will be Bi-Polar and crazy, but it will be Nicki. And fans of the cypher queen and the international sensation should both be happy. Haters will hate regardless, but when the sales pull in, all will be silenced because Nicki Minaj is on the path to nowhere but greatness.

@AHilton, Really good write up. It’s spot on. People who call Nicki a Kim clone just don’t get it- she can’t copy Kim. It’s impossible. Kim was never pop, hip-hop, and r&b. Kim never decided to go there. Nicki has. I’m not hating on Kim, because I don’t think she’s bad at all. Nicki is just completely different. She came up in the industry as a rapper, which would make it easy to draw parallels between her and other female rappers, but now that she is out there, she is branching out in ways that no one expected. How can one artist copy another when they are going on a completely different career path!? It makes absolutely no sense.

@AHilton, …well that’s her deal. If she wants to become a brand with all her pop songs with techno beats and ppl like it that’s on her. But dnt expect her urban fans who dnt like it and don’t need another pop star to follow just because its Nicki and SHE wants to do it. Not everyone is going want to listen to her brand of techno pop and not liking it does not make ppl less open minded than anyone else. N to alot of ppl, her fans and non fans alike, feel like what she has been putting in general is just what it is, lackluster.

omg, maybe I’m more of a Nicki Stan than I thought. I don’t know if anybody else knows or noticed this but that second verse on “Whip it” where she says, “Is that my que, I’m looking for some brain to boost my IQ,” is from an unofficially released song she did with Cassie called “F*ck u silly.” I wonder if it’s the exact same verse. lol

All I’m saying is don’t call yourself the queen of rap when half your album is pop, give that title to someone else case she doesn’t rap anymore okay she has hood tracks on here but most of this album is pop.. call yourself a pop artist because you damn sure ain’t hip hop anymore

  143. TayshakeepsItReal

So to all the people who feel like the rest of her fans (the hip hop ones) don’t understand her “evolution as an artist” why were so many people before able to stay hip hop and got pop recognition sh*t even Eminem and Kanye can crossover but still due pure hip hop music, I’m sorry this album is trash there’s only a few songs I can tollerate cause I am a fan of her hip hop side, ever since she decided to go pop its seemed forced and really fake and for her to sit up there and say that who she really is and she’s more happier with this album is fake AF cause she damn sure wasn’t doing this in 08 so what was all that a front to get in the game.. Now I realize how fake she is, if you wanted to do pop records come in the game like that so you don’t have people confused.. The reason why people are not feeling her anymore is because she all of a sudden switched up her style and I’ve been a fan since 07 so I know, this isn’t the same girl the rest of her fans got here after she started really poppin, while the rest of us were going to her club events singing her mixtape songs, Ya’ll talking about we don’t understand and your right we don’t cause its some bi-polar ass sh*t she’s doing, she is a SELL OUT! IDGAF what no one says.. and believe me I use to stan out for this chick but now she’s so fake and not relatable, all I’m saying is if so many hip hop artist were able to rap and not do pop records (including females) and able to have the appeal to mainstream why couldn’t she! Officially done with nicki minaj until she finds herself again and that is very unlikely SMH!

Wow this album is not cohesive at all.. She has sold out to the pop/mainstream audience even though she never really had to, how can most of you sit up here and say she can’t do one genre and be popular as she is, even Tyga was in the top 10 on billboard with rack city and that’s a hip hop song.. She can no longer call herself the Queen of Rap because she’s not and neither can her fans, if this is what you call the Queen of Rap then Flo Rida must be the King -.- Let’s stop talking about this girl she’s obviously lost it, and let’s worry about that actual rap chicks coming out with HIP HOP albums this year.. and you know the saddest part about it is Nicki Minaj had the potential to be something great and could’ve affected the hip hop culture in such a major way but she decided to say F*CK YOU to her hip hop fans and give us half ass songs that she did to shut us up smh *remembers the OLD Nicki performing in the club in Brooklyn back in 08, I was there*

The hip hop side is dope & the pop side is great as well. She pretty much catered to both sides of her fan base. I’m a huge Nicki Minaj fan, so I guess my opinion is very biased, but I actually really fucking love this mix. I feel like because Nicki isn’t falling into the typical imprint of what a female rapper “should be” that she often gets so much shit for it. But I really applaud her for staying true to herself on this album. She’s been saying since 2007 that in her career she wants to walk that bridge between hip-hop and pop, and I’d say she’s doing a pretty outstanding job. I think Nicki Minaj is ahead of her time, in 15 years they’ll be a genre for artists like her, just watch… She’s so much better than people give her credit for. It’s sad.

Nicki Minaj is GARBAGE – Yes her image is selling because the forces behind her create a powerful illusion to make people think she’ s hot. All this proves is you can take any talentless female off the street and dress them up like a bubble head clown and make them a superstar. Poor Kids growing up today with all this trash they call music. This era of music reminds me of Brown Sugar when Taye Diggs started his own label because of the wack Hip Hop artists his label was producing. #nickisucks
