Rap-Up.com || New Music: Dawn Richard

Tik tok. Dawn Richard goes boom on “Bombs,” the fierce first single off her 10-track EP Armor On, available now. The former Dirty Money diva, who is now a free agent, explodes with confidence over the Druski production.

“It’s really aggressive and what I love about is it’s our ‘Hearts have arrived’ record,” Dawn told Rap-Up TV. “It’s such a confident record and the way we approached it is super aggressive and super cocky.”

The dance-heavy video will debut later today on “106 & Park.” Check out our track-by-track preview and download the entire EP on iTunes.

This track is really dope. Sounds like a major label debut first single. The production sounds somewhat remenicent of Niggas In Paris with that snare that Kanye and Hit Boy use. For dawn to release this independently is big i can see this doing very well on Billboard if promoted right.

I bought the EP & I’m enjoying it!! It’s different & refreshing. Nothing like anything you would hear on the radio, besides maybe 2 tracks. People should open their ears & expand their tolerance for a new sound. Goodness gracious. I’ve seen the EP go from #67 to #7 to #2 in like 2 hours last night…. And it’s STILL there. Don’t be nasty & try to take that away from her. There are people buying it. Not sure who; but hey *shrugs* And I believe she’s doing this without a label. She should be proud of herself. Congrats Dawn!

I think many people forget what Dawn have accomplished; she had 2 albums that went platinum with Danity Kane who I thought had a huge fanbase, she just finish dropping like 10 videos in 3 years, touring, award shows performances, and chilling with one of the most popular man on the planet in Diddy. By all no means she was in a group, but if she can take 40% of the fans with her for the start of her solo career that is damn good head start.

I purchased the EP this morning and I was not disappointed. Heaven, Faith, and Bombs are my favorite tracks. You may not like the music, or Dawn (even thought most of you don’t know her personally) but you gotta respect her hustle! She is doing this independently and she is doing a great job.
