« New Music: Wale – ‘Oliver Twist (Freestyle)’Nas Talks Fatherhood with Jay-Z, Co-Signs Meek Mill »Drake Hints at Posthumous Aaliyah Collaboration![]() Drake has never been shy about his love for Aaliyah. The “Take Care” rapper has tattooed the late singer’s face on his back and sampled her song on his debut Thank Me Later. While he never got a chance to work with her while she was alive, he revealed that a posthumous collaboration may be in the works.
“I have some great Aaliyah news coming soon. Some special things,” the 25-year-old told Tim Westwood. When asked if it had to do with a rumored posthumous project of her unreleased recordings, he remained coy. “Just some special things, you know. Great things for music, period.” Drizzy shared his admiration for the “Try Again” songstress, who passed away at the age of 22. “I think more than anything Aaliyah always made music that was never uncomfortable for me to listen to,” he explained. “You know it’s hard for me to ride around to a female singer because at the end of the day, you’re a man, but she always kept it so G with the writing and the melodies. It was something to ride to, especially when it was chopped and crewed. That’s when I used to love Aaliyah the most.” You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site. 65 CommentsLeave a Reply

@meds, IKR! Also Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliot and Aaliyah were best friends. I doubt Aaliyah would work with Drake if she was alive for him comming at Lil’ Kim on that stage.

@Layla, Kim & Mary J her sister too but it was a period they just didn’t talk. Mary J talked about it on Wendy Williams radio show. Their cool again now but it’s not the same.
At the end of the day a lot of drama aside Kim isn’t the same person at all. So maybe not. How often does she still party or chill with Missy, Mary or any of her old “friends”? The industry has changed and their not all sitting at the top anymore so it wouldn’t be the same. Especially anybody from that Bad Boy era.

@Dre, LIES Kim does not fuck with Mary, no shade but Mary is not a loyal person she is not real. Aaliyah & Kim were very close Kim knows Aaliyah family very well and Aaliyah LOVED Kim and they always were around each other back in the day because they were on the same label, Kim is a real woman and loyal anyone who know’s bout Kim knows this. Mary is not can’t blame her though she was too fucked up on drugs to be a real friend when Kim needed her the most.

@JHP, I really doubt that. Kim and Aaliyah were very close and both of them were very loyal to each other. I love Drake but if Aaliyah was alive I don’t think she would have done a song w/ him.

As much as I loveeeeee Aaliyah I don’t agree with her having an album dropping when she isn’t here, especially when people she wasn’t cool with are using her name. It’s just not right. But what I don’t understand is the tat of her and him wanting to make a fake song pretending like shes here. Drake even wrote a open letter her last year. Like her going out his way to show how obsessed he is with Aaliyah. She might not have even liked Drake.

@Hip-Hop Fiend, Are you forgetting that Ashanti and T.I were featured on a track with 2Pac 11 years after his death. Nelly and Jagged Edge were featured on a track with Biggie back in 05. So why is it different with Drake. There’s nothing wrong with what he’s doing it’s keeping her legacy alive.

[...] When a plane crash took the life of Aaliyah back in 2001, Drake was just a young actor getting his start on the Canadian teen soap Degrassi: The Next Generation. As a result, the eventual rap star never got the chance to work with the ’90s R&B great — whose face he has tattooed on his back — but in a recent interview with Tim Westwood, Drizzy sparked rumors of a posthumous collaboration. She had NO features on her music except for Tim Missy Static DMX Treach which were on her team. Beside they aint producing any music. It unreleased and do u really think 40 would have rights to touch a legends music? Think about it.

Me being an Aaliyah fan since 2000….Drake needs to really sit back and not do this if its true. This is not for him or any other new artist out now to do. Drake is really soft and i cant see this working out ok. Maybe a Drake and a Mandy Moore collab would be much better but he will get us fans pissed if this happens.Aaliyah’s BROTHER RASHAD & HER PARENTS NEED TO PUT A STOP TO THIS. I’m a huge fan of hers but this doesn’t need to happen. I really don’t want him tampering with her voice/recording anymore. Enough. Especially since her brother doesn’t even like his lame ass as an artist. And no she didn’t work with any and everybody and like others have said I’m sure she wouldn’t have liked the fact that he dissed Kim like that. He needs to let her rest in peace and stop annoying her fans.
I don’t think getting a tat of her is weird or obsessive because thousands of her fans have them and thousands, if not more little girls around the world are named after her. She was an icon and an angel to many people, including Drake. He can love her all he wants, no problem but I don’t love the music collaboration idea. I feel that’s messed up when the person isn’t here to say “yes” or “no”. Sure he wouldn’t want people using his vocals after he’s dead and gone.

He understands her artistry and you can hear it heavily in his music. Jump off homeboy’s sack and let him have his moment. Drake makes good music, so I trust his ear.

Aaliyah we miss you.. No doubt she was one of the greats. She had the voice, tnealt, charisma, swagger, etc. all put together. You can see it in her videos and music during that era of hip hop & r&b. Collaborating and working with Missy and Timbaland was sure to have continued to produced numerous hits without a doubt if she hadn’t passed. Especially that Timbaland style produced killer beats. You can tell its produced by him. Plus she also had a couple of films in her books. She would of had blown up. She is definitely a music great and I bet even today in 2011 she would still making waves one way or another. Look at Usher, Beyonce or MJ, Madonna. You get what I mean.. peace.. Love u Aaliyah!!
