« Rihanna Covers Elle Magazine’s ‘Women in Music’ IssueMixtape Trailer: Game x DJ Skee – ‘California Republic’ »Mary J. Blige Speaks Out About Controversial Burger King Ad![]() Mary J. Blige is not happy after her Burger King commercial went viral and caused a firestorm on Twitter and blogs. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is speaking out about her involvement in the controversial spot promoting the fast food chain’s new crispy chicken snack wraps.
In the commercial, Mary sings about “crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing.” But the ad was heavily panned, causing some to believe it was an April Fools’ joke at first. Mary tells TMZ that she never signed off on the version that surfaced online. “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence,” stated the 41-year-old singer. “Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip.” The ad, which has seen been pulled from Burger King’s YouTube page, was not approved. “I understand my fans being upset by what they saw,” she continued. “But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw to go out.” Burger King confirms the spot was released “before all of the licensing and final approvals were obtained” and offered an apology to Mary. “We would like to apologize to Mary J. and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final.” A final approved version of the commercial will be released soon. In addition to Mary, David Beckham, Salma Hayek, and Jay Leno appear in ads for Burger King’s latest campaign. You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site. 63 CommentsLeave a Reply

@MH, The unmastered vocals, the horrible acting, the set up, and how she was the stereotypical sassy black women who loves chicken :/ Not really a big deal but for someone who’s on Mary’s caliber, this was unacceptable. Glad he cleared something though

you still did it mary. stop falling back on legalities and deflecting blame as damage control! that was clearly you singing those lyrics on that table for all those white folks. whether the paper work was finalized or not you were clearly on board with this concept. just ‘fess up and keep it moving. its really not that serious.

Burger King executives thought it was ok to have a black woman sing about fried chicken in 2012? Why not add watermelon? How about a little tap dance number by Mary J. and random black kids?
This is no different than if they had Jeremy Lin do a commercial and he did some Karate and turned into anime.
These “people” have always found it amusing to mock and exploit minority groups for their own sick entertainment and financial gain. Wake up people. If you stand for NOTHING, you’ll fall for ANYTHING.

Why is everybody so sensitive nowaydays? You people must be really bored with your lives trying to FIND something where there is nothing really…sorry.

[...] ● Mary J. Blige bemoaned yesterday that her pulled “crispy chicken, fresh lettuce” Burger King commercial was not the “fun and creative campaign” she had signed up for. Burger King meanwhile apologized to Blige and her fans for airing the ad “prematurely,” adding that they hope to have the final spot on air soon. [Rap-Up] [...]

Honestly, this video is hilarious.People are so ridiculous. Being furious with her is unnecessary.I love Mary and honestly if you are a real fan a stupid BK commercial wouldn’t make you all so hostile. It’s advertisement, it had it’s pro’s and con’s however, it is the consumer’s choice. If you think it’s fattening and unhealthy don’t get it because Mary’s in the video.

If You don’t understand why some black people would be mad over that coonery this generation is more Dumb and ignorant to racial history then I recently thought. Yes everybody loves chicken. Italians singing about spaghetti would be wack but not as bad. you don’t even have to look to far to see minstrel shows put on mocking black people with with the black face, big red lips, eating watermelon and fried chicken making the enter race look lower then dirt. It’s just some shyt you don’t do. Shucking and jiving for a paycheck would be on that list. I get why some clueless white people wouldn’t get it but blacks who don’t understand the insult of a black women with a legacy of Mary’s standing on a table singing her heart out about some damn fried chicken is wrong. You need to pull your head out your azz

I’m black watchin this commercial nothin racist about it. Not like she was dressed like a slave and had to say “yes massa”. You should be proud black people are doing things they’re doing now such as being on commercial movies the radio. And were you even born when black people were slaves were you even born when black people had to be segregated from white people did u even feel gettin whipped and beaten from a white person back in those days? No? STFU! Comming from an educated mixed with black person :)

You can convince the next IDIOT that rascim is dead but you ain’t saying shyt to me And as I already said if yOu can’t see why some blacks would be upset with this your more brain dead then I thought. Even Mary herself was upset with the stereotypical look of this coomercial hence it. Being pulled.. And I give a damn about what your mixed with.obviously your parents did a horrible job of explaining to you what it means to be black and should be slapped for allowing your a s s to be so nieve and stupid when it comes to the history of blacks, obviously I wasn’t around for slavery but I’m smart enough to know the influences it has on today’s world and how it still affects how we think and how we are Percieved..
