Rap-Up.com || Video: Rita Ora f/ Tinie Tempah

All eyes are on Rita Ora. With a No. 1 single already under her belt (“Hot Right Now” with DJ Fresh) and an opening slot on Coldplay’s European tour this summer, the much-buzzed-about blonde burns up the screen with her first solo music video for “R.I.P.,” the Drake-penned single off her Roc Nation debut.

The 21-year-old singer, who hails from Kosovo, flaunts her drop-dead gorgeous looks, impeccable swag, and beanie collection as she dances on top of customized cars in a grungy warehouse. Her British pal Tinie Tempah injects some attitude, while Rita bites the bullet—literally—in the in-your-face clip, directed by Emil Nava.

Rita’s debut album, which has been two-and-a-half years in the making, is due this summer featuring some familiar names including Stargate, The-Dream, will.i.am, and J. Cole.

I want to be a Rita fan but the music isn’t happening for me. On this, the production is too much. I wanna hear you. This is a straight rap beat and should’ve been left that way. Drake-the-songwriter-for-others doesn’t work for me. The concept and lyrics of this record are horrible to begin with. Party N BS isn’t much better. I want to know who Rita the musician is and that’s not gonna happen with other people’s over produced left overs.

She looks great, I love her personality and look but the most important thing, music, isn’t happening. Hopefully her album is a better reflection of her.

Reason 534 I’m not a fan of those who just pass songs around and sing whatevers handed to them. Not everyone has the writing talent and musical know, but have an identity at least.

@Shade, EXACTLY! I love the empowered tone of this. I think Drake writes really well for women, he seems to really be able to understand the female perspective. I love that she’s not singing some sappy, submissive ballad. I like that this has spunk and attitude. I’d love to hear more variety from her, sure, but that’s because she’s captured my interest with this track. You know what’s up.

@Shade, I agree. The lyrics are good. I don’t even know where that came from. I don’t like how they rearranged it though, and took out part of the chorus that I thought helped it flow, and made it the bridge. The beat is good, I think the problem is he said he wrote it for Rihanna who has a deeper voice that can handle the beat better. There’s a bit of a contrast with the hard beat and Rita’s softer voice that might be a little off putting until you get use to it. It kind of takes away from the edginess that the song needs to be believable.

If ya’ll actually did a little research ya’ll would know that Rita Ora has had her style way before Rihanna, going back to 3 plus year. Just look her Roc Nation Skull Candy commercial that was made 3 years ago, same look she has now.

As for their talent vocally this chick smashes Rihanna and most of these nonsinging pop tarts (Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry,etc).

Overall ya’ll need to let the girl live and be great, which i’m sure she will because she has a machine behind her.

Rihanna, really? Rita Ora is actually talented, meaning she doesn’t hide behind playback and/or gyrate non-stop in lieu of singing during live performances. I don’t give a damn who wrote the song and I have never heard of such undue criticism for a artist that’s “new,” on the US scene at least. Maybe you guys just aren’t that open/musically diverse. Well, there’s no “maybe” to it. I remember all the backlash when Usher released “OMG” and “Climax” and Toni Braxton released “I Heart You.” Folks were crying it was too “dance-techno poppy” as if Usher and Toni still didn’t have soulful voices. To each his/her own, I suppose, but this is becoming much more than outrageous.

Vocally she sounds nothing like Rihanna for one thing, persona wise she is nothing like Rihanna, and style wise she is nothing like Rihanna.

So just do a little research before ya’ll start hating on the girl. Youtube some of her live performances, this chick got chops.

As for whether she is gonna be successful, she already is haters. She is already taking off in the UK (number 1 song) and pop radio has already picked up Party and BS here in the US.

i Remember seeing/reading things about her her before we could hear what her sound/work was all about : I thought she would bring it and be the sh*t.

I’m feeling like a lot of other comments. Too dry, basic, repetitive. I know she can sing, I’ve seen it. This track has no soul. The hook is solid lyrically but it sounds boxed, dry, and soulless. The lyrics on the verses are definitely basic. 1 of those things that sound good at every stage except the last stage.
