More than 10 years after her tragic death, VH1 celebrated the life and legacy of Aaliyah by airing an updated version of its 2001 special “Behind the Music.” From her meteoric rise to her tragic death, the one-hour episode features new footage and commentary from her family and peers including Missy Elliott and hip-hop journalist Nelson George. A young Aaliyah is seen performing her chilling cover of Gloria Estefan’s “Anything for You” and recalling her appearance on “Star Search.” Look back on an astonishing career cut short.

Beautiful soul, talent, & so humble. I miss this girl. I’m glad that back in her day the negativity of today never touched her. The ruthless blogs, the paparazzi everywhere, the disrespectful fans known as Stans that wanna destroy you & love you. I truly feel as if God spared her from that hell.

I believe she was a humble person & there’s never been a need to discredit another artist in the name of bigging Aaliyah up. Aaliyah didn’t need it. Whether she was at the top of the charts or the $5 bin she would have been the same beautiful person. She’s missed. Rest in Peace Baby Girl.

I HAD WATCH THE SHOW LAST NIGHT, AND IT WAS SO UPLIFTING TO SEE HER ON THERE AND THEN SHOED HER DEATH OF THE PLANE CRASH, SO ALL YOU PPL DONT KNOW ABOUT AALIYAH NEED TO ASKED SOMEBODY ABOUT HER. SHE HAD THE VEST PERSONALITY EVER AND HER VOICE WAS JUST AMAZING TO HEAR AGAIN. R.I.P AALIYAH GIRL
