New Music: Nas – ‘Another Black Girl Lost’

Nas

Nas speaks to the ladies on “Another Black Girl Lost,” the empowering sequel to “Black Girl Lost” off his 1996 album It Was Written. The Queens rapper cautions young women to not let men dictate their lives as he raps over the clanging beat produced by Hit-Boy.

“Ladies, I believe in you. We gotta stop this craziness out here though. We gotta get right ’cause when we both get right, we both take flight. Us real men need you, for real,” says Nas.

In a recent interview with Angie Martinez, he said that the track will be featured on his first solo album in four years, Life Is Good, but we’ll have to wait and see.

@HEY RAP-UP, its a war against black women and black men are on the opposite side. There very few black female rappers so the perception of black women in hip-hop is created by black men. The majority of the black men rapping are either praising another race of women or saying everything bad about black women as the opposition to why they want another race… my God leave black women alone..we will be fine

@Randy, its worse than the CNN special about “Why Black women are single”, “why black men want white women”, “why black women are single mothers”, “why black women this”, and “why black women that”….its sad…we under attack

No. This is garbage. I applaud the intent, but the execution was horrible. Before you tell a woman what to do and what not to do, how about you qualify yourself as a man first. Nas’ catalogue is full of bitches and hoes and womanizing diction. I’m so sick of artists and their blatant hypocrisy.

@JHP, I agree with you, Realistically is really stupid to think Nas would always disrespect black women. If you listen to It Was Written, Illmatic, and Untitled, you will see that Nas cares about all black people, and Nas cares about black women being treated in a respectful way.

@TRA, If black women would put there selfs in situations to be treated like shit that wouldn’t happen. Women in general not just black seem to like men that treat them like shit. For some reason the 21 century has got lost thinking this means they love them are they wouldn’t treat them like shit. In reality it’s because most black men are loud and obnoxious and want to be fake thugs or rappers and they feel they have to be in control of something because they feel less like a man if they don’t. Most white men feel more like a man letting women speak there minds and do what they want. It’s coultures it’s diffrent get use to it

@Realistically, Let’s be honest right now, I want you to try to name at least 10 songs that Nas made that totally disrespected black women and if you can name 10 songs by Nas that disrespected black women, then I would agree with you, until then, I think you are fucking idiot and total loser. 98 percent of Nas’ songs deals with social issues and politics. The last time I checked, Nas doesn’t have any mainstream hip hop songs on the radio. I never hear Nas on the radio lately making songs like Stupid Hoe, Beat The Pussy Up, Drink In My Cup, Beez in Da Trap, and all the other garbage, terrible songs that gets overplayed on the radio. Nas is a great music artist, and one of the greatest rappers ever, if you listen to Nas’ last album Untitled, you will see that Nas is different from all the rappers on the radio, you need to think and do more research on an artist before you criticize someone.

I agree with you, Nas even tho i enjoy his music, always comes off as hypocrite to me.
This is the same man who made songs degrading women like Street Dreams, Oochie Wallie, You Owe Me, The Makings Of The Perfect Bitch etc… so i don’t want him to suddenly get preachy and tell peoplee what to do.

@JazEJas, I already do. And I also listen to Da TRUTH, Sho Baraka, Lecrae, and a host of other artists who ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT SOMETHING. Everyone else whining and complaining should look some of these artists up.

@realistically are you serious girls black, white, and Hispanics call each other bitches. Nas is just tryna tell young black girls to respect themselves. I give it a 4/5

I actually like this song. I’m not ganna sit here and argue about Nas, because I don’t listen to his music. Trust I know he’s a pioneer of rap. But I don’t think any of us has any say on what he can rap about. Let him attemp to empower a young black girl, at least he isn’t degrading us. Yeah yeah. I know I’ll get hate for his previous songs by a feminist on here. He’s just tryna speak his mind. I think y’all have forgotten, that black women are looked upon with disgust… Unless we’re acting in a blockbuster movie or own a business.

THIS IS NOT AN ORIGINAL BEAT…This same Hitboy beat was used in Tony Williams (GOOD Music Artist) “I Know You Missed Me” feat. John Legend. It fits better for that song, but I guess it was re-sold to NAS? Idk.

I didn’t like it. I did not like the melody and the message just seems unnecessary to me. Lyrically I’ll have to hear it a few more times, but I just wasn’t feelin’ the overall track. There are plenty of black women out there who have a good head on their shoulders and are not “lost”, I felt like it was such a stereotypical portret of “the black woman with the attitude”. No bueno, Nas. I need something else from him!
