Rihanna Named One of TIME’s Most Influential People in the World

Rihanna

Rihanna has topped the charts worldwide, and now she finds herself in the company of a different set of talent. The 24-year-old pop star has been named one of TIME magazine’s most influential people in the world.

She joins a prestigious list of 100 artists, activists, reformers, researchers, and heads of state including President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Adele, Chelsea Handler, and Jeremy Lin.

The “We Found Love” singer posed as a blonde for famed photographer Terry Richardson, while her friend Stella McCartney praised her in an open letter.

“She’s one of the coolest, hottest, most talented, most liked, most listened to, most followed, most impressive artists at work today, but she does it in her own stride,” writes McCartney. “She is one of the few people I know in that world of fame and celebrity who aren’t all about themselves. She’ll give a real part of herself to an ordinary person she may meet, and that’s rare.”

Rihanna thanked everyone who made it happen. “We made TIME 100 most influential people’s list! Thank you Navi, TIME mag, and Stella for an exquisite write up!” she tweeted.

To celebrate, she will perform at the eighth annual TIME 100 Gala at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York on April 24.

I have read the comment on this all over the net and I cannot beleive that so many people do not understand the word influential.

It is taken from the word to influence…eg Rihanna wore Boy (the brand) on a talk show and the brand sales rose by 45%.She cut her hair and went black and wham we all have short hair. she sang cheer and the sale of sprits rose. Infulence is about making an impression in a way that infulence a persons actions and deeds. And she has the power to influence. Her haters and her fans.

I’m so mad idiots think INFLUENTIAL means she has to be an idol for Girl Scouts or some shit. Complaining because the girl smokes as if she’s NOT gonna be 30 in 5 years, like wtf?! When did everyone become so damn “cookie cutter”? Whether you agree or not, Rihanna has heavily influenced music, music videos & fashion (especially). Her 15 minutes turned into 7 years & counting. Stop hating & let that lady be great! Congrats are in order.

@TimeMagazine should be boycotted for saying that Rihanna is influential person. Just this weekend the fans talking about her at the concert smoking weed and sniffing coke right in front of the people with no shame.

    [Reply]

    Sugar Reply:

@pia, Exactly. The media hyping her bad behavior up and stans enabling it as well will not help this poor girl in the long run. I’m actually a fan, but sorry I’m not going to drink the Stan Kool-Aid on this one. She had the potential to be influential, and she does project style influence as far as looks. But this year, no. She needs to mature professionally, personally and artistically.

lol at the people getting mad..a boycott??really?
apparently some of you dumb crying idiots don’t know what influential means..brand names and companies get certain artist to co-sign their merchandise because they know people will follow.people follow rihanna style, i see it all the time..just heard a girl at the nail shop explain how she wanted her nail shape oval like rihanna..she interest people

that girl is young and having fun so fcking what if she smokes pot 70% of Americans smoke pot and their isnt any proof that she ever did cocaine, yall just talking out the azz with that

rihanna does her and apparently that rubs of on others…just because she isn’t god like and a model citizens like some of you self righteous fckers proclaim to be does not mean she isn’t running things

    [Reply]

  22. Kyle

I can see her being influential from a fashion standpoint because her sense of style always has people talking. But everything else she does isn’t really too extraordinary.

Rihanna has to do good things with this power she has. She’s gotta stop posting photos of smoking weed because that is just as influential as selling a brand she wears. She should smoke a joint in the privacy of her own home not on a beach with paps or posting photos on twitter.

I love RiRi but she’s being stupid about how she influences her fans…. Some being children

    [Reply]

  34. Edgar C

Love her music, but she is classless. If anything, she has a negative influence on young women. Have these people never taken time to read her tweets? She is not a positive influence.

  35. destiny

What ppl fail to realize is rihanna is one of the most, scratch that THE MOST REAL GENUINE pop performer out! Everything she does, tweets, says,is things she would’ve done EVEN if she wasn’t famous. Other pop stars changed to either be “perfect” in the eyes of hollywood or be over the top to show how they dont care. Rihanna is just chillin…i know ppl who act JUST LIKE HER and are some of the most down to earth ppl i have ever met.

Grow up people and stop using the “times are changing” shxt because the times are changing and if it wasn’t for change alot of you would be dead or in jail so grow the fuxk up and take the stick out your asses.

    The End :)

i do hope that she at least takes this as a way to tone down her whole image, and she will cuz she’s young and she’s just living it to the fullest up until she’s beyonce’s age. Rihanna is literally just being the typical 20 something. People want her to be PERFECT so bad, and that is just not gonna happen. Beyonce’s perfect so go worship her i say.

    [Reply]

  37. Billionaire

Influence is well-rounded not specific which is probably why most of you do not understand! While many you are fixated at the fact that she’s arguably a negative role model especially towards women, she has donated huge amounts of money to the disease of leukemia even to the point that she made an apperance to the funeral of a fan that died of this disease as well as came to visit her whilst the girl was in the hospital sick! That’s why Rihanna is influencial apart from her artistry!

    @Billionaire,

Sorry but the mother of that Child stated that Rihanna visted her daughter once and never came back. Mother said she kept reaching out to Rihanna but Rihanna never returned her calls until her daughter died. It was stated that Rihanna came to see this child to promote her CD.

The people who or squealling the loudest or the ones who or on the hate on Rihanna band wagon. The reason its such a shock to them is because they mian and groan about each and everything she does. Rihanna has come from nothing and with nothing, but loads of raw determination and a will to work as hard as she can, and you know the rest. She is the biggest digital seller in the US, Ever. She is the Facebook Queen, she has 17 million twitter followers and she has over a billion youtube viess. And she is still working hard and learning all that she can with her Art. That is just some of the many things she has accomplished, and the haters will forever hate on hr, no matter what.
