Rap-Up.com || New Music: Brandy f/ Chris Brown

After taking fans on a retrospective of her life on “Behind the Music,” Brandy offers a glimpse into the next chapter of her career with “Put It Down,” the first single off her upcoming RCA/Chameleon Records debut Two Eleven. Her labelmate Chris Brown spits a verse on the hip-hop-flavored love song, which was written and produced by Bangladesh and Sean Garrett.

“It’s definitely something you have never heard—you probably haven’t heard Brandy over a track like this,” Garrett told Rap-Up.com. “It’s very commercial, but at the same time, it’s got a dope hip-hop influence—it’s club, it’s radio, it’s all formats.”

The single will be released to iTunes on May 8, while album collaborators include Timbaland, Mario Winans, Danja, Hit-Boy, Noah “40” Shebib, Rico Love, Ester Dean, Frank Ocean, and more.

I think the song is fun, I think it will get people talking about Brandy. However, I was looking forward to hearing Brandy actually SINNG on this album. Her verse on “It All Belongs To Me”, was amazing and it made me want to hear her voice (especially with the performances). This is a disappointment because it’s obviously for radio and buzz, instead of the true essence of Brandy. I know the album is much better than this, but I’m hoping the put something out before dropping it because this isn’t good representation for a comeback.

I’m really tired of seeing this B vs. D debate. Dawn said Brandy was the truth and her voice was amazing. She does not try to sound like Brandy. Her (Dawn’s) music and sound is something totally different sonically. They produce their vocals similarly but that just means that they BOTH understand the voice and how great it can sound when stacked properly. Brandy has a husky tone that CANNOT be duplicated and Dawn really sounds nothing like her. The only similarity between the two is the way they stack harmonies and BGV’s. Hearts, calm down and stop saying this song sounds like a Dawn track (cause it absolutely does not) and Starz stop bashing Dawn cause she’s not trying to be like anybody but herself. I LOVE this song and I loves me some BRANDY AND DAWN individually. I will have TwoEleven AND Armor On/GoldenHeart in my collection.

@danny, I MUST disagree. Dawn has a very strong sense of who she is as a songwriter and singer. I’m sorry but noone is f*cking with the material Dawn put out on that EP. I’m a DIE-HARD Brandy fan so don’t get it twisted, but your statement is just FALSE. CREATIVELY, Dawn has her own swag and her own musical style. She’s not as diverse of a vocalist as Brandy is, but she understands what works best for her voice and she’s smart about CREATING her music. This song has a fun beat and a great/catchy hook. Overall, it sounds like something is missing from it. And the verses are kind of awkward and hard to follow. Seems like everyone is digging the song, though. I want nothing more than Brandy’s success.

She’s B-Rocka for a reason! This is an AMAZING R&B song, with crossover appeal! The story the bridge tells brings everything all together from just being typical to being a very clever, well thought out track. The catchy/beautiful hook draped over Bangladesh’s hard hitting production is genius as well. The video & performances will only elevate this track! I’m very excited for Brandy. :-)

SLAYEDDD! SLAYEDDDDD!and SLAYEEEDDD! When Brandy released Human, a lot people complained that she needed a radio hit with a hint RnB/Hip Hop. Well- now we have it and some people are saying its not good enough- WHATEVER! THIS IS A HIT! Think back to the Full moon era when she released- what about us, it had the same gritty, catchy chorus that caught our attention. I am 100% certain that Brandy will deliver mind blowing ballads on her new album to fully showcase her talent. B-rocka is smart for releasing this single first- only the gifted in music would co-sign what i am saying!

By the way- this is on constant repeat!

Brandy is coming real HARD…. Anyone who knows the business can see this is Power Move…PPL wanna move in the summer. I ASSURE YOU this CD is nothing BANGERS and BALLADS. The song is DOPE and so Different. Dont get me started on all the voices and harmonys… BUT at the same time its not tooo raunchy, its more imagery than anything. Go BRAN.. Love it. RCA knows exactly what the hell they’re doing. Great record. Sorry to those stuck in 1998 that’s just not it right now if you’re trying not to waste money. This will get her a younger audience, it’s something new…and signature brandy vocals are on it. Y’all know she’d be played in 5 minutes if she started with a ballad!! Great job. Anyone notice though that the breakdown would make a beautiful ballad though lol
