Rap-Up.com || Video: Rihanna – ‘Where Have You Been’

Rihanna is fierce and fearless in the tribal video for “Where Have You Been,” the Dr. Luke and Calvin Harris-produced single off her sixth album Talk That Talk. The pop starlet, who was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, shows off her fancy footwork and breathtaking beauty in the dance-heavy clip, directed by Dave Meyers (Missy Elliott, Janet Jackson).

“This one is just all performance. It’s all about evoking an emotion through your body,” said RiRi. “I was never gonna shoot this video if I couldn’t do choreography ’cause it would be pretty pointless. It would be disappointing.”

Watch her move to the beat of her own drum.

It coincides with the song in the fact that she’s searching for someone.

Her coming out the water is like …think Aaliyah in “Queen of the Damned”, the vampire goddess awakening because she hears the music/to find something. Then Rihanna goes back into the water, like a vampire back to their coffin. The looks are tribal but could also be mythological. Same thing for the dancing, it can be seen as physical chanting, like symbolic

The song is catchy and trendy. The video visuals were beautiful, I expect them to be its DAVE MYERS a seasoned video director, who has worked with Missy Elliot, Jlo, Pink, and many more.

I love the creativity, a lot of people may compare it to others but she did her thing. It reminds me of a sexier version to Missy Elliot’s “Get your Freak on”, but then again they both were directed by the incredibly talent Mike Meyers. Big ups to RiRi the video is great!

PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT THE CONCEPT IS? The song and the video don’t match like We Found Love did. Also Rihanna’s dancing was way off and her body was really stiff. If you watch closely you can see alot of missed stepts. Other than that the song is the bomb and could have did without the video.

I was suprised that her dancing was as good as it was and I love the way she sings in the song, but the techno breakdowns throughout the song ruin it for me. It seems like a bunch of filler.

Not even directed just at her, but I cannot wait for lyrics to have words and have more thought put into them again. Repeating one phrase or one word over and over is getting old!

@Sean, They put it in the final cut because that’s the best she could do lol. It’s a dance song so having ANY dancing from her is better than having no dancing at all, even if she is a little stiff. She had a lot of dance training & rehearsals for this routine so i guess most people would of expected more. But it WASN’T horrible and she definitely is slowly improving.

Her dance moves were not up to par. The choreographer should’ve waited and given this to someone like bey, dawn ; hell, even Janet Jackson, Ciara, Britney spears or j. Lo. Okay so I’m going to be all the way honest regardless of me disliking her but I didn’t like this video for nothing.I’m actually surprised because I thought I was going to enjoy being that the beat is so out there but it did nothing for me. It gave me “Run The World” & “Upgrade You” with a hint of Africa.Also, she can’t dance at all!

I’m not here to bash her that’s just my honest opinion. I do commend her for actually putting effort in this video with the choreography & I thought she looked great as well.
