Pharrell and Jermaine Dupri’s protégée Leah LaBelle gives us a taste of her upcoming I Am Other/So So Def/Epic Records debut with a 5-track album sampler. In addition to the seductive single “Sexify,” the former “American Idol” contestant captivates as she coos over beats by her hitmaking mentors. Play and replay the five cuts including “So Hot,” “Make Me Get Up,” “What Do We Got Lose,” and “Mr. Scissors.”

@Penny Proud Lil Sis, That is the first thing I thought of as soon as I heard “Make Me Get Up.”

Hmm It’s alright. I’m really liking “What Do We Got To Lose.” But, can’t this girl blow? Only thing missing for me were vocal acrobatics.

sounds super boring to be honest… disappointing…it’s like dated without having the old school feel with a new twist.

Sounds forced.
Poor execution on trying to give her sound.
These beats er production DOES NOT match her voice.
It’s like they’re forcing this ‘type’ of style on her.
Plus her fashion doesn’t even match with the musical endeavor they have chosen for her.
She could be big, but sadly it appears not with these two.

@chris, Yes,I agree the whole sound doesn’t match her image at all! She dresses more like a Pop Star than someone who does R&B, while she has a good voice these songs sound dated as if they were from the early 1990′s.

I freakin love this, WOW! If u could see me now…….smiling from ear to ear.
Sometimes with debut albums, the lead singles are strongest ones. While the rest of the album is weak and filler. Leah didnt do that. the other 4 songs are on par or even better than ‘Sexify’!! The standard of this album is ridick. Her voice, the medlodies, THE PRODUCTION!!!! and the lyrics all gel perfectly. I WILL be getting this album. No doubt about it.Hoply they release it this year because i cant wait.
So proud of this girl. She is proof hard work pays off!:)

WE need this music, yes but this production is lame…
“What We Got To Lose” is the best song on here! Leah can sing her ass off… but this presentation isn’t as fly as she is… now she really has to have a dope ass stage show and visual and that SUCKS cause she can REALLY SING to depend on a gimic!! smh…

JD turned it out for Leah on What Do We Got To Lose. The other songs are a mess. Her voice doesn’t match the beats. She is a powerhouse but somehow gets swallowed in the mix.

Something is off. Out of these 5, I only see “Sexify” and “What We Got To Lose” being worthy of making the album…and I think that should be recorded, she can do better than that vocally. It sounds rushed. I’m a little disappointed as a Leah fan.
Does anyone remember Dondria’s buzz single, “Can’t Stop”…that’s what most of these remind me of, cheap and outdated.

I agree, there is definitely something off with these songs. Like, the vocals sound weird…like they were using some cheap studio equipment or something.
I’m assuming most of these songs won’t be making the album or will be reworked by the time is comes out. Because if not…..

She actually has a unique voice, however, the music isn’t strong at all. The beats don’t match her voice, and everything seems un-iconic, forced, and dated. I know she will look back at these songs in 5 years, and wish she could of said something to Pharell and JD, because these songs ain’t it. Somebody around her is lying to her. She has a huge chance to be a huge star, but these songs…NO.

These blogs have turned any & everybody into a damn music industry “expert”. I can always tell when industry folks hide behind pseudo names to talk shit b/c they are haters & have their own agendas. This music sounds great & Leah is a SuperStar. When someone comes out with a different sound, it takes a minute for people to digest it. Almost always they don’t get it at first. Like I said, these songs sound awesome to me! Followers will eventually get it :)

The songs are seriously really boring, have no catchyness at all and they sound all the same, except for ‘What Do We Got To loose’. That song has great verses and chorus. It should be the next single! This girl however needs a club banger

What do we got to lose sounds very generic to me. It sounds like stuff I’ve heard in just about every black movie where someone is reminiscing about love. I’ll take the old school tracks…

LAZY ASS MOFO’S Need To Actually Try For Her!!!

“Mr. Scissors” is the best song of the bunch. Its so Seeing Sounds meets Hadley Street Dreams. If she brings more work like this that merges a retro styling with current pop appeal then she could be alright.
