Mary J. Blige tries to escape the drama in the glamorous video for “Why,” the latest single off her album My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act I). The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul gets dressed up and goes out with her girls for the night. She links up with Rick Ross, looking dapper in a white suit, and is finally able to smile. Watch the Colin Tilley-directed video below.
This Maybach Music tag is getting beyond annoying. The video was a typical “pop bottles, drenched in jewelry, has nothing to do with the content of the song”-type of video. I mean, there is nothing wrong with that, it’s just that I have seen it too many times already. If you’re going to spend a lot of money on making a video, make one that is going to be creative and original.
@Rick, I am a very opinionated person, so I can understand why you feel like I am over-thinking this. But it really was the first thing that came to mind when I watched this music video. However, I did state that there wasn’t anything wrong with the video.
@Ice, I hear what you’re saying, but I can’t say that I fully agree with what you and a lot of others are saying. Mary J. Blige expresses a lot of pain and desperation in this track, because she doesn’t want her relationship to fail. It would’ve been nice if they would have given a vision to that pain, to kind of accentuate the subject matter of the song. But that is just my opinion, it’s not a matter of who’s right and who’s wrong to me.
This video is perfect for the song. The concept makes sense with Mary taking herself out to escape the issues with her man. I want to pop bottles with Mary and Rick and hit the club too. This is nice grown folk music. Mary bringing back that classic hiphop soul sound. This song is fiyah
Maaan, love that video. What’s annoying is that all Rozay’s lyrics are about what he buys his girlz. Mary in the wife beater was a bonus. She still sexy as a mofo.
Is that how they want to save R&B?????
The R&B categories at the Grammys are skipped from the broadcasted part of the show!
Watch this and you know why!
Same ole shit!
No disrespect to auntie Mary but this is so below her!
Whats this? 1995??? LOL
I don’t want Teedra Moses to end up with Maybach doing the same shit R&B has been offering since the late 80ies!
@Fa,
So you’re one of those people that sit back and pick everything apart .. “oh you shouldn’t do this , it’s a bad look” .. “oh they look so silly” .. ” oh this artist shouldn’t be signed to Maybach Music”.. Just shut up and be entertained !

@Mentamir, Rick’s right, the video gives off the same smooth vibe as the song, that’s the main objective.
