Rap-Up.com || Beyoncé and Kanye West Lead BET Awards ’12 Nominations

Beyoncé and Kanye West lead the nominations for the BET Awards ’12, it was announced today at a press conference in New York.

The pop superstar scores six nominations overall at the 12th annual show. Her videos for “Countdown” and “Love on Top” will compete against Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Ni**as in Paris” and “Otis,” as well as Usher’s “Climax” in the coveted Video of the Year category.

West leads with seven nominations, most of them for his Watch the Throne collaborations with Jay-Z, who picks up five nods.

YMCMB’s Drake and Lil Wayne each earn four nominations including Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, while last year’s top nominee Chris Brown takes three.

Hip-hop freshmen A$AP Rocky, Big Sean, Diggy Simmons, Future, and Meek Mill will vie for Best New Artist. A$AP, Sean, and Diggy were on hand for the live announcement.

Brown and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist nominee Nicki Minaj will perform at the show, while the Cadillac Lifetime Achievement will be presented to Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, who will also take the stage.

Samuel L. Jackson will host the BET Awards ’12, which will air live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on July 1.

Rihanna is NOT performing better than Beyonce. 4 was at #1 upon it’s release & stayed there for 3 consecutive weeks w/ charting singles Party, Love On Top, Countdown and RTW. TTT was at #3 upon it’s release and fell lower on the charts after week 1. Yes WFL charted #1 but EVERYONE in the industry knows Rihanna is a singles artist not an artist whose album package charts well. TTT is her 5th or 6th album release & none of her albums have reached #1. Besides BET like any EVERY other award show knows that there are only a few artists that when performing live will put on a show (Bey, Chris Breezy, Jay & Ye, Gaga & Adele).

@Honesty, Not true. Beyonce performed better than Rihanna on the R&B charts. We Found Love is pop. Beyonce had three top 10 singles on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart: Love on Top #1, Party #2 and Best Thing I Never Had #4. And the “4″ album was the highest selling R&B album of 2011.

For Rihanna, You da One and Talk That Talk flopped on the R&B charts and Birthday Cake reached the top 10 after the eligible period.

@EyFresh, Firstly, I swear Rita Ora’s album hasn’t even dropped yet. Frank Ocean was nominated last year, and his album hasn’t been released (and so he can’t be nominated). You answered the Adele question already lol…Brandy’s album hasn’t dropped yet (can’t wait for that though!) so she’ll probably be nominated for next year’s awards. John Legend hasn’t done anything recently, and that pretty much goes for many of the other artists as well. It depends on Album sales, or people like Prince, R Kelly, D’Angelo, Jennifer Hudson, etc, would have been nominated for almost all the categories!

I am happy that Kanye West is one of the two co-leaders for the 2012 BET Awards nominations. Kanye West deserved all of his nominations, but the BET Awards made a lot of mistakes with the nominations in my unbiased opinion. Drake should had been a co-leader for nominations along with Kanye West and Beyonce. Drake’s Take Care got great reviews and sold more records than Watch The Throne, so Drake should had gotten a lot more nominations.

I respect Beyonce as a talented artist, but BET Awards showed Beyonce way too much love. I am starting to think that the voters for the BET Awards want to have sex with Beyonce. Beyonce’s 4 was a good album, but not a great album. Kelly Rowland should had been nominated for Best Female R&B artist. Kelly Rowland got screwed very badly, considering that Motivation was one of the best R&B songs of 2011.

Rihanna getting nominated for Best Female R&B artist was a complete joke, since Rihanna is a mainstream pop artist. Everyone knows that Nicki Minaj is going to win Best Female Hip Hop Artist, so that category was truly fixed. J. Cole should had been nominated for Best New Artist.

Did the BET Awards listen to Common’s The Dreamer/The Believer Album? Common should had been nominated for Best Male Hip Hop Artist. How can the BET Awards nominate Big Sean for Best Male Hip Hop Artist, but not nominate Common who had a much better album than Big Sean. BET Awards have completely sold out to the biased mainstream media. BET Awards have now reached a new all-time low this year.

If you look up Metacritc, Drake’s Take Care got 78 percent, while Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne got 76 percent.

The real point I was trying to make is that there are plenty of artists who had a good year like Beyonce who will never get the same amount of nominations as Beyonce, and sometimes it’s not fair at all. Indie artists and underrated R&B artists like Frank Ocean and Robin Thicke deserve to be nominated somewhere as well.

And I love Kelly and all but all she came out was with one good song from that album why would she be nominated. @ddd ani, I agree with you that award shows can be corrupt sometimes. I think Kanye West deserved his nominations, but like I said in my earlier posts, there were some mistakes that make you say, WTF? I respect Trey Songz as an artist, but Trey Songz getting nominated for Best Male R&B artist was a slap in the face to Robin Thicke who had a great year.

this sucks point. blank. period. no Tyga nominations, Beyonce leading with her worse charting songs ever and some of her most boring videos.Climax video of the year only been out for a two maybe three months at the most. Nicki Minaj only one and she had one of the highest charting video and song with superbass. And where is Song of the year and video of the year??

@Kelvin, BET clearly isn’t the GRAMMYs they don’t have Song Of The Year, and BET clearly isn’t the Billboard Music Awards they don’t care about The Hot 100 chart Positions it’s all about the music/videos.

In that R&B category Beyonce has some good charting positions on the Charts, BTINH (#15), RTW(#25), LOT(#20), W/ Little Promo, CD(#71) w/ No Promo, that’s great considering she wasn’t promoting like in the IASF era.

I do agree with you: Beyonce probably doesn’t care about Swift, but her raicteon alone proved that she may have come up with the idea on her own .Yes, her PR team could have initiated the idea, but lets give celebrities some character points .she was raised in a solid family with two parents. I think she might know how to step up and do the right thing .at least sometimes.
