Rap-Up.com || Funkmaster Flex Disses Nicki Minaj at Summer Jam

It wasn’t who was on stage, but rather who did not take the stage that was all the talk at Summer Jam. After Nicki Minaj bailed on her scheduled performance, Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex called her out at Sunday’s show.

“We ain’t fu**in’ with commercial rappers no more,” Flex said during his DJ set. “If you lost the fu**in’ streets, it’s your fault.”

He addressed sales of her latest album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. “If you don’t go gold, it’s your fault.”

While he has shown support for the rap diva in the past, he’s now singing a new tune. “I’m dedicated to tearing you down,” he said, adding, “If you not buying no more commercial albums, hit me on Twitter right now.”

Lil Wayne called for a YMCMB boycott of Summer Jam after Flex’s Hot 97 colleague Peter Rosenberg dissed his protégée on the Festival Village stage prior to the main show.

“I know there are some chicks here waiting to sing ‘Starships’ later,” Rosenberg told the crowd. “I’m not talking to ya’ll right now. F**k that bullshit. I’m here to talk about real hip-hop shit. People here to see A$AP Rocky today. People here to see ScHoolboy Q on this stage. That’s the shit I represent.”

@jayman, In rap it’s always good to have a target, and he just became one. I’m mad he was all over Roman Reloaded and Beez in the Trap on his radio station though. Acting very thirsty trying to premier them, and Starships was already out at that point, and he wasn’t talking shit then. Hell she’s been on his radio station since Pink Friday’s release, and neither one of them was talking like this, so they’re extra shady for pulling this rabbit out of there when they thought it would go unnoticed.

It would’ve been wack of him to diss ANY of the artists on the bill, but ESPECIALLY (arguably) the most popular artist on the bill. Nicki is smart putting out songs like “Starships”. That track is not one of my favorites from her. I personally don’t like the pop-like, dance songs she has. She has a good mind set doing that though. Songs like that appeal to a much wider audience, hence giving her a larger fan base and letting people of all ages knowing who the hell Nicki Minaj is. You may call her a sell out or whatever, but she is business smart. I know songs on the radio nowadays aren’t the best songs, but to get played a lot, you have to make tracks like that. Sad as it is, its true. At lest she still brings fire with songs like “Beez In The Trap” and more…
