Ciara Previews ‘One Woman Army’ at New York Listening

L.A. Reid, Ciara, and Tricky Stewart

Ciara is back in full force. After premiering her new single “Sweat” featuring 2 Chainz and promoting the comedy That’s My Boy, the R&B princess jetted to New York to host a listening party for her new album One Woman Army on Wednesday night. Celebrities and tastemakers packed the room as she played tracks off her first album since 2010’s Basic Instinct.

Her Epic Records boss L.A. Reid and music mogul Jermaine Dupri toasted her with champagne, while guests including pal La La, producer Tricky Stewart, and “X Factor” alum Marcus Canty snacked on cupcakes.

The album, due in October, received rave reviews from attendees. Among the records heard was a “summer banger” with Rick Ross and a ballad called “Sorry.” DJ SNS also reported hearing a collaboration with Nicki Minaj.

“Hardest @ciara record I’ve heard. She’s reconstructing the lanes. So future,” wrote Patrik Sandberg of V magazine. “This album is ridiculous. It’s coming for EVERYTHING!”

@steph, the bad reviews from listening parties never get published. its really not an accurate way of determining how good an album is. its not a critical environment. its a party ffs.

    [Reply]

  9. ciarafan4eternity

There wasn’t one bad review from anybody that attended the party. Somebody did say “Sweat” was the worst out of all the songs played, but that’s really saying something. If “Sweat” is the worst, then One Woman Army will be nothing short of amazing. Can’t wait to hear the Rick Ross collabo as well!

@ewoij, actually if anything the “haters” are the one claiming she’s coming for someone’s spot. that’s hating on someone just because they are in a successful position that you yourself dont want them to be in. attacking someone because they are where you want to be. bitchassness at its finest.

her last album sold 33k. you people trying to hype it up based on a biased listening party and minimal objective criticism are the same ones that will download it as soon as it leaks and then not buy it. just like you did last time. youre all talk. you think someone else will buy so you wont have to. but that’s what they think as well, so no one ends up buying it. fake fans.

  26. GDG

her single have not been memorable enough to wait for a october release they are doing a bad job with promoting i see just like her last two albums… shes done good bye cici

    [Reply]

    HeavyHeavy Reply:

@GDG, lool they have just started the era so its a bit too early to say the promotion is bad. It gets sent to radio and iTunes on the 19th and promo will follow after alongside a video. The song just came out this week what do you expect jheez people these days!!

….And they will push two singles after Sweat, so October is perfect.

    [Reply]

    Tears Reply:

@GDG, what are you talking about? Her 1st single JUST released a few days ago, relax. You don’t think we’ll get other singles before the October release? You don’t think she’ll promote these singles in addition to it already being underway paired w/ the promotion of That’s My Boy, w/ the BET Awards, VMAs, X-Factor, etc. coming up? You’re this quick to write her off from just under a week of this era actually starting? Bye.

    [Reply]

    Truth Be Told Reply:

@GDG, If you were smart you would know that not rushing the album out is smart. Thats good promotion because if they were just to drop one single and push the album out that would be as if they didnt even care. October is the perfect month. Sweat will run big throughout the summer then she will drop a summer banger then a single before her album comes out. They have the correct set up.

  28. Kyle

NICE!!!! My advice to her and her team this time around: DON’T RUSH A DAMN THING. Let the songs run their course and take things step by step. The problem I had with “Fantasy Ride” and “Basic Instinct” were that things took off a little quick in the beginning and a release date was set, but then things would staul and the date(s) would start getting pushed back. Then more songs were released in hopes for a #1 hit and obviously that NEVER HAPPENED. Just do your thing Ciara and keep us excited! I can’t wait for the new album!

I don’t think October is a good release date. September would of been better.

Of course they will pump up her album, who goes to a listening party to talk trash about their album? Everyone will say her singles is hot. Let the public make that decision.

    [Reply]

    batman Reply:

@mel, thats what the listening party is for if the songs don’t appeal to them then she would have to probably start from scratch usually critics go to listening party’s too.

    [Reply]

    EQWO Reply:

@batman, ive NEVER heard of a listening party that ended in negative press. NEVER.

    [Reply]

    mel Reply:

@EQWO, I agree with you. I really like ciara BUT her last two albums didn’t do well. Of course the people that were invited will say her album is Grammy worthy. What attendees bash at a listening party? Her album is complete, even if no one enjoyed her music, she’s not going to start over again. I still believe October is wrong. Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige are releasing albums later on this year also. Techno pop is getting kind of dated. Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross is everywhere they’re played out.

she will surely be flopping… sorry to say but this chick needs to just go away. Vocals are atrocious. Blonde weave looking a dry ass mess. This girl will never be on Rihanna, Beyonce and most importantly the girl she secretly wants to be Aaliyah’s level.

    [Reply]

    cOMEaTmEbRO Reply:

@fashionfail, But why did you click on the post about HER if you hate HER that much?!

And another thing, you said she will never be on Beyonce and Rihanna’s level, but you fail to realize that Rihanna isn’t even on Beyonce’s level. Yes she does have alot of #1 singles, but Rihanna’s music now a days isn’t anything memorable.

In my opinion Ciara’s music is more memorable then anything Rihanna has put out. including the 2 albums that didn’t do well.

And how is she trying to be Aaliyah? You people just look for a reason to hate but fail at it everytime! Ciara and Aaliyah’s music isn’t even the same.

Stop worrying about Ciara and worry about your fav. And stop bringing up Aaliyah’s name. Nobody will EVER take her place. let the girl rest in peace. damn!

    [Reply]

    fashionfail Reply:

@cOMEaTmEbRO, its my damn opinion like seriously hop off, lol. Youre a flop just like your washed up fave. this girl need to walk away because the game walked away from her ss 2 albums ago. I admit Goodies was freakin hott, The Evolution was sick and the best ish ever, Fantasy Ride I was feelin it to death and i understood why she didnt sell but lately this ghetto trash and stripper sounding music she had on basic instinct and then that sweat single ewwww no. Trust me hun she will be a flop. Im sorry, the girls a cutie and a stron ass dancer, even gorgeous enough to be a god damn super model and actress, maybe even a TV correspondant but music… the girl just need to stop aint no one checking for her material, its dated and it sounds like the same stuff people have been hearing from her for years. I have every right to bring up baby girl aka Aaliyah, she swagger jacked her and threw on some blonde dry wig to seperate her identity but in the end every aaliyah fan know that CiCi was dreMING about being Aaliyah even b4 she passed, she tried to fill the void and it just didnt stick so… hang it up girl.
