« Exclusive: Nas Talks ‘Life Is Good,’ Cover Art, and CollaborationsNew Music: Soulja Boy – ‘Snapbacks & Tattoos (Remix)’ »Jada Pinkett Smith Talks ‘Annie’ Remake with Willow Smith and Jay-Z![]() Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett announced last year that they were partnering with Jay-Z to develop and produce a remake of the 1982 musical Annie. The film will star their 11-year-old daughter Willow, with Jay-Z handling musical duties.
“We’re partnering with Jay-Z and Roc Nation as far as Annie is concerned. Willow’s going to star,” Jada told Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb during her appearance on the “Today” show. The couple’s son Jaden previously starred in a remake of The Karate Kid. “We had success with Jaden with Karate Kid,” she added. “That was a film that Will and I both loved. We were like, ‘We have got to bring justice to this movie.’” They plan to do the same for Annie. “Annie’s a classic. We are taking our time to make sure the script is right and you know Jay-Z’s gonna kill the music.” Are you excited for the Annie remake? Let us know. @wdf, Just like Jaden should’ve used skin cream to lighten himself and become Ralph Macchio? Son, it’s a remake.

@wdf, Not all the girls that played Annie on Broadway had red hair. I remember as a child Annie was my favorite movie. My dad bought the soundtrack, unfortunately not the one to the movie, but one from Broadway and the little girl in the cover playing Annie was a Brunette.

I agree with wdf.
If a white person would play a black person in a remake, it would be living hell but if a black person blacks a white person, its cool.
Just like when people got mad at Angelina Jolie for playing cleopatra.
She shouldnt be annie.

@Rap*LovesJesus, well lets stop the racism now you don’t have to be that race to play that part it just gotta be right. It’s not based off any real human being, and the movie isn’t called “Little Redhead White Girl”. It’s Called “Annie”. F.Y.I. Catwoman was played by multiple different women with different races no complaint’s (unless your a closed-minded racist!)

Fuck all these remakes! Jay-Z is never creative. Why don’t they try to make an original classic?

I could care less about race, I just wish they would stop trying to force these two kids down our throats. Go to school. The entertainment industry will still be around when you get out.

Here we go again remaking the classics!
-Dark Shadows (ok, I found Burton’s version dope)
-The Munsters (it’s coming, folks)
-Sparkle ( We all know the 1976 version cannot to surpassed!)
-Steel Magnolias (BLACKING it up! Can’t wait to see the backlash for this)
And now ANNIE! SMFH…and WILLOW SMITH OF ALL PEOPLE?

Why the freak does it matter who plays Annie? just be happy for the girl and get on with your bitter lives, brandy played Cinderella and it was a good movie. People are just so critical so no reason what so ever!

@trey, Because some people are just not cut out for certain roles and people feel some beloved films should remain untouched. It’s not people being “bitter,” it’s people expressing their opinions and backing them up.

If anyone is talented enough to play “Annie” in what I’m sure will be what Hollywood considers a “butchered remake,” it is Amandla Stenberg, who played Cataleya in Colombiana and Rue in The Hunger Games. Jay-Z aside, no one seems to make good casting decisions anymore.

Though I love Jay-Z, I don’t think Annie should be remade. That movie is a classic and should remain untouched.

Well seeing as how Annie has been remade before, I don’t get the big deal. I’m excited to see this film in its final form.
