Rap-Up.com || Rihanna Closes Out Hackney Weekend with Jay-Z, Fireworks

After sharing the stage with Jay-Z on Saturday, Rihanna returned to headline her own set at Hackney Weekend in London. Rocking Air Yeezy 2s, a baseball cap, torn fishnet stockings, and black-and-gold sunglasses, the pop star closed out the two-day festival with a spectacular 65-minute performance that featured plenty of hits, an Egyptian-themed stage design, and a surprise appearance from Jay-Z.

The 24-year-old singer and her mentor stood side by side as they launched into “Run This Town,” while Beyoncé and Florence Welch looked on. “This is history…for the first time ever,” said RiRi before the Roc stars performed “Talk That Talk.” Fans waved umbrellas as they continued with their No. 1 hit “Umbrella.”

“Hackney, you fu**ing rock!” said RiRi as fireworks lit up the night sky. “I don’t wanna go. I love you guys so much.”

I think Jay-Z definitely added some pizazz to this performance. I watched some of the other performance clips from tonight and I am seriously so disappointed. Rihanna is not a true performer. Anyone can do what she does on that stage. Thrusting your hips and miming to your own song is not a good look for someone of her caliber. Her voice comes off so strained when she is ‘trying’ to hit those notes. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, watch her performance of “S&M” from this show. Embarrassing. I think Jay-Z standing next to her put some pressure on her to actually kick it up a notch. She should bring him out for every performance!

I was in the crowd and before yesterday I used to think she was the worst live singer ever. However, after seeing her I think it is something to do with TV coverage because she was perfectly fine. She sounded like most of her records but you could tell she was live because her adlibs were different and she absolutely killed LTWYL pt 2. The one area she slacked in was the dancing because stayed messing up the steps when she attempted.
