« New Music: CyHi the Prynce f/ Chris Brown & Big Sean – ’100 Bottles’New Music: Mateo – ‘Carry On’ »Frank Ocean Set to Make Big Splash on Charts with ‘channel ORANGE’![]() Chris Brown is the current king of the charts, but another R&B crooner is set to take over next week. Frank Ocean is expected to make a big splash with his major-label debut channel ORANGE.
According to HITS Daily Double, the Odd Future crooner’s well-received album is on track to open with 110-125,000 copies in its first week based on preliminary estimates. These figures are impressive considering the album is only available as a digital exclusive on iTunes. Physical copies won’t hit shelves until July 17. The “Pyramids” singer made his television debut on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on Monday, where he announced that the project would go on sale immediately. Within an hour of its release, it soared to No. 1 on the iTunes charts and currently remains there. ORANGE didn’t receive a traditional rollout and wasn’t supported with any singles or videos prior to its release. The press shy Ocean made headlines when he opened up about his sexuality in a letter on his blog. TweetYou can leave a response, or trackback from your own site. 83 CommentsLeave a Reply

@Dave,
Im not gonna lie.. I wasnt checking for Frank Ocean until he came out.
I decided to listen to his music.
First thing I heard was “I Miss You” which he wrote for Beyonce. I thought it was BEAUTIFUL
Then I heard “Bad Religion” and it really hit me that this dude is in his own lane.
Not cuz of his sexuality but his amazing lyrics and topics.

@sam, You didn’t listen to his ablums at all did you? He have like 2 euro-pop songs on each F.A.M.E. and Fortune and the 2nd of these two is actually mostly R&B. Big props to both artists anyways. I don’t know why people always need to argue who is better. Just enjoy the music.

@Miszi, matter of fact, Frank ocean is a schemer, why would he use is sexuality to gain attention, i fuq with his talent and creativity tho, but the way he came around it using is ‘GAY’ personality to get known, is pathetic and big joke.

@Miszi, Honey we have ears. Even I do. Chris Brown is all Euro-Pop… Frank’s album.. Is #PureR&B … Besides if you knew what was R&B.. Educate yourself with TLC, Aaliyah, Boyz II Men, and all of those artists in the 90′s and 80′s.

For digital sales, that is CRAZY!! Then the Physical release comes next week, which could easily push him into a second week at #1. I personally feel like he’s about to do an Adele situation with a few weeks at #1. Mainstream celebrities are buzzing about this album, and when you have buzz from the urban community and the mainstream community that equals sales.

@Issa, What PR, CB had all negative Pr. Frank Ocean, had Beyonce, Jay z, Kanye and Rihanna hyping his album up. I think the only celebrity that mention CB album was Monica Just like last year with Fame. Frank Ocean didn’t have a leaked album either, Just like Jay Z and Kanye released their album to itunes only. Plus he came out and created PR, by announcing that he was gay, and then posted his album on itunes. PR 101. CB and Usher sold Worldwide. CB is #1 on 22 countries R & B chart.

@zania, Chris brought all the negative publicity on HIMSELF what with foolish diss songs and club brawls in which innocent people was injured. Frank Ocean’s album was hyped up? PUH-LEASE. Since when is it “hype” when people offer support to someone who has just made one of the most difficult announcements in life–on the WORLD stage, might I add. Frank is BISEXUAL, not gay. Ocean’s album doesn’t hit shelves until July 17. We’ll see how it sells then in addition to his iTunes numbers. And riddle me this since you know so much — WHY would Usher and CB NOT sell worldwide, considering they’ve been in the industry for a while? Their names are KNOWN. #1 in 22 countries is fine. But TeamBreezy swore up and down this album would go gold within the first week as if this would be the best album of the year. I guess the team wasn’t on one accord. And one more thing on the matter of Brown — I know he’s #1 in the UK. Have they decided to life their ban of him yet?

After reviewing Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange album, I am now convinced that Frank Ocean will be nominated for Best New Artist and Best R&B Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange album is the best R&B album of the year, and arguably the best album of the year so far. Channel Orange is a very, good album from top to bottom. The album is getting good reviews from unbiased music critics and unbiased music fans. Not only does Frank Ocean deserve to be nominated for Best R&B album at the Grammy Awards, Frank Ocean should win Best R&B album at the Grammy Awards next year.

what Frank Ocean did was not a publicity stunt it was a smart move. He already had rumors garnered about his sexuality because critics at his listening party was buzzzing about his lyrics mentioning a “he” in them. So why not go ahead and adress the rumors (and in a very intimate way too.) Frank Ocean’s music is nowhere near R&B, his music can’t be put in a box. But do I see him being our generation’s Stevie Wonder in a sense? absolutely. The guy is waaaaaay ahead of his time…he’s already a brilliant writer and producer, writing and producing for TOP music artists. Hats off Frankie! Love his music and been supporting before Nostalgia came out!
