Video: Keke Palmer f/ Kevin McCall – ‘You Got Me’

Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer has commanded the big screen in films such as Akeelah and the Bee and Barbershop 2, and now she’s ready to conquer music. The 18-year-old singer-actress, whose influences include Brandy, TLC, and Aaliyah, shows off some fierce moves as she struts around in the video for “You Got Me” featuring Chris Brown’s CBE signee Kevin McCall.

Keke is working on her self-titled mixtape, due for release later this summer, and lends her voice to Peaches in the animated film Ice Age: Continental Drift.

@Greggy C, idk something is just not clicking for me, she look out of place..like a second rate beyonce and she gotta change that name. keke? stick to acting.

@Realist : Navy-Nazi, She doesn’t need to change her name. Wtf? Keke – short for her middle name, Keyana, – is FINE. It’s no different than “Cici” (Ciara), “Mimi” (Mariah), or “Rih rih” (Rihanna). Bye. She’s not a second rate Beyonce. No R&B chick can release a video with them dancing in it without being compared to Beyonce. There are no similarities between those two artists.

She need to change that name no one gonna take a girl named Keke seriously lmao. And a couple of the outfits/hair were very Beyonce B-DAY era…

    QBLove Reply:

@dee, And yet everyone is taking a white, female rapper named “Iggy” seriously. She doesn’t need to change her name. You need to change your attitude. Because quite a few people are already taking her seriously. And who cares about Beyonce’s B-Day era. Other R&B females a few years back dressed like that -_- Take Amerie for instance.

@IV., The section where Keke sings, “What do they know about us?,” it clearly sounds like Brandy’s song, ‘What About Us”

@Oh Please, just because she’s making money, doesn’t mean she must squander it on a flashy video. Respect her artistic direction with this video.

lol ok. I remember when she threw a Twitter fit because some Justin Bieber stans made “R.I.P. Keke Palmer” trend. She attacked people who were just trying to explain to her what happened and why — people who hadn’t even done anything!

Keke Palmer has a great recording voice, but this video is so amateur. Why isn’t her label funding a real video for her, it’s obvious this wasn’t something they did.

  20. Marty

Because she is not with a label, she has been off Interscope for a long time, she wrote and put this all together herself just for her fans, it’s free, I would not pay 100G for no free song either, respect her talent, leave the negative shit alone, do ya’ll want R&B to come back or not?!!!!

it does hav a Beyonce -esque spirit to it, but thats unavoidable becuz KeKe’s generation grew up on Beeyonce, so it will always come off with that manner. Anyway, i think the next Big It girl wont be KeKe, nice try, but the next Big It Girl to take Beyonce’s spot will be the least like her, it’s going to be someone who has a different style and swagger of sum other female from another generation, Beyonce was the 90s and 2000s, these girls need to go study sum female of yesteryear, actually it will be sum1 who is a godgiven superstar who naturally and effortlessly does it.

Wow, all the disrespectful comments towards Keke is ridiculous! The girl is amazing talented, in both music and acting! This song is amazing, and the video is definitely amazing for a mixtape song that she’s letting people download for free. Can you all just please stop with the comparisons so much and just start supporting the few urban / R&B artists we have, as everyone has took a turn for the electro pop train now.

Remember when Jessica Simpson’s label tried to shed her good girl image and the resulting fuckery was the video for “Irresistible”? Yeah, same situation here. She is trying too hard to be something that she is not.

I don’t give a damn what any of you say, this video is awful and stating so doesn’t make me a hater. It simply makes me honest. Some of you should try that concept.

It was cute, she was trying something fierce, lol. She was giving me Amerie but the song definitely reminded me of “What about Us” by Brandy.

I’m glad to see people embracing the fact that Keke is growing up and conveying it in the new direction she’s going in with her music career. I’m not a huge fan, but I believe Keke really is a nice, wholesome girl – and I’ve seen her in Akeelah and the Bee, Runaway Love (music video by Ludacris), and Madea’s Family Reunion…she’s a good actress too. She’s a talented girl who deserves success in her career-wise endeavors. Besides, all the R&B artists are acting like their genre went dead and suddenly going pop – it’s nice to hear some actual R&B again If she reminds me of anyone, it’s Ciara (the dancing…remember when Ciara first came out?) and Brandy (her voice).

Every time someone tries to do something productive there is a flood of negativity. The only comparison between Keke and Beyonce is that they are BOTH business women. PERIOD. She is making a name for herself, and she has always been using her voice. It really is no secret that she can sing. I like the song, video, and her. People are too quick to judge. Be supportive people. If you have something to say let it be constructive critcism–Otherwise, shut the F*ck up!

    Totally agreed with you.
Why so much negativity for Keke is it because she is super talented? Get a life people if she was your relative would you tried to put her down so much, she is not like anyone except her self Keke. Let the girl rise is her career she is talented enough and she has an amazing voice
