Jhené Aiko pens a touching tribute to her brother/best friend Miyagi, who died from cancer last week at the age of 26. The L.A. songstress, who is signed to Def Jam and is working with No I.D. on her debut, wrote and recorded the song herself on her laptop with the intention of only playing it for her brother. Before he passed away, she made sure he heard it.
“You are more than just my brother/ We grew up just like best friends/ I know nothing lasts forever, but I don’t want this to end,” sings Jhené in her soothing voice, while encouraging him to not give up.
“now i hear him telling ME , what i was singing to him… to not give up,” she wrote on her Tumblr page.
Witness the unbreakable bond between two siblings.

Hands down, the “Realist” song I’ve heard. Lyrical content, melody, and beat all working together is absolutely breathe taking. Made me cry listening to her voice.

I am glad to read that her brother got to hear this song before he passed away. May his soul rest in peace and may his body been released from any kind of pain he might have felt during his time of sickness. What a beautiful song. My thoughts are with Miyagi’s family, friends and others who have been affected by his death. Death doesn’t make sense sometimes.

She stands out in a crowd full of “artist” who rotate the topics of hoes, sex, weed, and cash. This is REAL LIFE. People are out here dying, struggling, fighting to live. I respect that she’s bold enough to share her experiences, and not sell her soul.
