J. Cole

On Wednesday night, J. Cole made a surprise appearance at Mike Barber and DJ Spynfo’s Mic Check showcase in New York City. The Roc Nation rapper treated the crowd to a new verse from his song “Chaining Day.”

Before reciting the lyrics, Cole explained, “I ain’t drop nothing in a while because I feel like we in this digital age where sh** moves so fast. Ni***s got songs every week, you can’t even keep up with this sh**.”

He adds that that’s the reason he “had to take a step back” since releasing his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story last September.

Check out his new offering, which he wrote as a cautionary reminder to never become “that guy.”
