New Music: Aaliyah f/ Drake – ‘Enough Said’

Enough Said

Drake’s love for Aaliyah is no secret. The Young Money rapper has shown his appreciation for the late singer with a tattoo and sampled her music on his debut Thank Me Later. Now he realizes a dream by collaborating with her on “Enough Said.” The understated record, produced by longtime Drake collaborator Noah “40” Shebib, features bars from Drizzy (“Selling under 150, you ni**as gotta be kidding”) complemented by Aaliyah’s haunting vocals.

Drake will reportedly executive produce an upcoming posthumous album from Aaliyah. Expect him to perform the song live for the first time tonight at OVO Fest in Toronto.

The song does nothing for me at all! His verses were irrelevant to the Chorus, but s/o to him for Keepin Aaliyah’s name alive!

@Jay, if you listen closely, his verse makes perfect sense.

    Shaytan Reply:

@Mentamir, Listen closely? Seems like you didn’t listen. Aaliyah is singing about love. He is dissing Chris Brown in the entire track! Sit! Drake wants attentions

    [Reply]

    Mentamir Reply:

@Shaytan, why do people always have to attack each other on here? For once, just shut up and listen. Yes, in parts of his verse he talks about Chris Brown, but that is not all his verse is about. It is about multiple things that bother him, but he feels like by voicing his frustrations, the situation will not change, so he bottles it up. Aaliyah repeatedly lets her love interest know that she wants him to speak his mind and share his thoughts with her. You have to read between the lines.

@Mentamir, I completely agree with you wise words !

    GooGle Reply:

I actually like it , But for Drake to put his verse on it and make no type of sense what a show of disrespect and If he truly had love for her he would of just put the song out !!
But this song is the first real love, R&B song that I have heard in a while … Aaliyah voice is beautiful

    JayDee Reply:

@Mentamir, THANK-YOU!!!! I totally agree. He’s playing the role of her lover, and he’s expressing himself after she showed her concern. And so what if there was some “beef” in it. Hell, no names were mentioned; therefore, saying that he disrespected Aaliyah by adding that in his lyrics is just unnecessary drama. It’s a NEW Aaliyah song. Be happy! Damn!

    mimi Reply:

@Mentamir, kudos to drake for bringing this beautiful song out and i usually like his music but I personally prefer the version without him. two thirds of his rapping had nothing to do with the rest of the love song, he’s all ranting about this ghetto life, rivalry etc etc…da fuq? take that ghetto talk elsewhere, Aaliyah’s music was never about shet like that.

@j, I figure they were going to release her unfinished and unreleased stuff sooner or later. I know Drake is a huge fan of Aaliyah and I know he put in a lot of work to get the chance to do this song but I think as a fan, he should’ve let the people who actually knew here like Tim and Missy do this album since they knew her musical style and helped develop it. They’d know best how she would’ve wanted the album. But it is a good song to me though.

@Jason, why??? they only did one album with her her last album only had one song a piece from missy and tim , so she was drifting away from them anyways. She always reinvented herself so this is a great look for aaliyah

@da, This is the shit I don’t like. People who speak on shit that they don’t know nothing about. Aaliyah’s last two albums where done by missy and timbo. Google search will be your friend. Missy & Tim where with Aaliyah for the longest and where her mentors.

    [Reply]

    Aalonso Reply:

@Beyoncé:The Seat Giver, you are incorrect. Timbaland only had three songs on her last album, “Aaliyah.” He did More Than A Woman, We Need a Resolution, and I Care 4 U. That’s it.

    [Reply]

    Beyoncé:The Seat Giver Reply:

@Aalonso, they where producers for the last two where they not? Thought so. Sit in something that reclines.

    [Reply]

    your wrong Reply:

@Beyoncé:The Seat Giver, your wrong aaliyah wanted timbaland and missy to work on her last album. But their schedules didn’t line up cause aaliyah was super busy shooting queen of the damn and starting the matrix. Missy just released an album. Loose rap was going to be the 1st single but Tim found time to produce 2 songs for her album resolution and mtaw. So they chose resolution for the 1st single cause her team thought it was best to have a Tim record to start of the album. I care for you is a one in a million. Tim and missy barely made it on her last album which was her best. She could of work with anyone and made good music

    CAM Reply:

@Beyoncé:The Seat Giver, You need to do your research.. Her last album was done by a number of producers, Tim only did a few songs on the album..

    Bitches Mad Reply:

@CAM & @your wrong, Missy & Timb where main producers on the second and Timbo was one of the last studio one. So technically @Beyoncé:The Seat Giver is correct. So instead of being a mindless sheep to the masses do your research.

    Get Money B!tch Reply:

@Jason, Where were Timbo and Missy before Drake thought of doing a colabo with Aaliyah? They had plenty of years to do this shit so what were they waiting for? Timbo is hating on Drake just like the rest of them niggas. BYE!

@Lovelife, It’s creepy when said person is a desperate loser with tats of artist on his back, ear plugs with her face on it so he can “be guided by her on stage” (wtf?) writing her letters and using nicknames that only those close to her called her. Then he releasing a song with no universal theme or anything Aaliyah-inspired just so he can whine about success again.

This song reflects nothing but ego. Drake aint got sh*t to say anymore. Let’s face it.

Let Aaliyah and other deceased artists rest in peace. Her catalog of work is strong enough. She sure as hell doesn’t need help from drake to be great.

Let me get this straight. So Drake makes Aaliyah a “hook” singer for his tired stories we’ve heard a million times now.

I hope someone drops the original unreleased version of “Enough Said” before the Drake/40 remake b/c thats the only version I wanna hear & I know her true fans want to hear too!

P.S. Eric Seats (producer of “Rock the Boat”) tweeted how he disapproves of this track, I wonder if the label even involved him & his partner Rapture who helmed most of the producing on her last album “Aaliyah” to be involved w/ the album. Them, Tim & Missy knew where she wanted her sound to go & become. I’m so over Drake he should’ve went to the source & her roots before making moves!

Drake needs to stay on topic. rap about something else besides your success. Get on Chris on ya own track. Aaliyah fans don’t want to hear that.

Also, I agree with people saying missy and timb shouldve had something to do with it but don’t act like they were the only producers who knew her sound. Statik seemed to be aaliyahs primary producer before she left, unfortunately he passed too.

Also Rodney Jerkins did good work with Aaliyah.

    This IS NOT Aaliyah.
    This is DRAKE ft. aaliyah.

What is sad is how money controls the very people who make it. A theoretical reason you do not see Timbaland and Missy around the music of Aaliyah is probably due to a feud with Blackground records who most likely controls all unreleased and future projects with Aaliyah. Timbaland did sue Blackground so you will probably not see him around another Aaliyah project. It would be better for Drake to come out with a special project that could be marketed as a ‘dedication’ by having him “FEATURE” her vocals like this instead of “DOING” an album by her. It is very disrespectful to the fans and people who were truly touched by her music because we all know this is not the SOUND of Aaliyah. If you want to hear Aaliyah then go back and relisten to her three Albums and if you want to hear who she was and where she was going with her music, then you start with ONE IN A MILLION and end with AALIYAH. If Drake was truly a fan, he would have more sensitivity to the image of her music and fans and would do everything in his power to get Missy and Timbaland as the Executive Producers of this posthumous album no matter what political BS tried to keep them out. I don’t think Drake is a true fan; I think he is obsessed for some psychological reason that I am unsure of. There are ways to do things and this is the beginning of an example showcasing how not to do something. Please reply and let me know if you share the same thoughts or disagree and please if you do, explain with mature reasoning because we are all blessed to have different ideas of thoughts and we are all blessed to be able to communicate our thoughts to each other peacefully. I appreciate those who took the time to read my comment.

I cannot believe Drake actually pulled this off. First of all, this record is amazing. I don’t understand why everyone’s judging him for being a fan of Aaliyah. Everyone has an artist they admire and it’s the same type of love that Drake has for her. People sample Tupac and Biggie’s music, why the hell is it a big deal that Drake did it? I don’t think it should be bothersome to people that Aaliyah will have a posthumous album out, who wouldn’t wanna hear unreleased music?! I swear if Michael Jackson had a posthumous album coming out there would be no problem, people would be celebrating and that’s exactly what we should be doing for Aaliyah, celebrating her music and appreciating her art. I’m pretty positive that Timbaland and Missy are a part of this project, Drake is not that shady nor disrespectful, if Blackground Records greenlit this project then no one should throw hate on Drake.

@CAM, Your exactly right on Aaliyahs last self titled album Timbaland only produced 3 songs. Aaliyah was gonna start going in a different direction in music and start working with other producers and use different sounds like incorporating alternative and other genres into R&B i think Aaliyah was gonna create a whole new lane you could hear that in her last album how she tapped into Bass guitars and instruments. That album was so innovative and different

You people are such haters, I see the same names just sit here and alk shit. The song was very good, Aaliyah was asking her man to speak to her and vent, tell her whats going on. Drake hops on the record & does just that! He dissed Chris Brown in it WOW! Its music, he said two or three lines on that fool, but the rest he was telling you some shit he always wanted to say. I think if J. Cole oe Eminem did this you guys would ride their dick, but because its Drake you guts hate.

It’s always got to be some type of negativity whenever Drake does something to HONOR Aaliyah..people act like it’s just absolutely wrong for him to show his admiration for someone who has obviously been a very positive influence in his career and personal life.

I like the fact that he was very toned down in this song, he actually let her voice work it’s magic instead of being like some of these souped up rappers when they sample someone’s voice in their songs and completely butcher that persons’ vocals by over doing the adlibs.

He’s helping to keep her legacy alive and her name out here, he’s a fan just like anyone who’s a fan of a certain artist..it’s good to hear her voice again I think people intentionally try to be critical of Drake. It’s actually kind of sad,

especially to the people who claim to be Aaliyah’s “fans” because Aaliyah was never a jealous or bitter person..she embraced everyone and their own individual styles I think she would be happy at the fact that she was able to touch someone and their not ashamed to show it. RIP Baby Girl! props to Drake

correct me if i’m wrong, but didn’t Aaliyah do a song with marvin gay and had him in the video long after he passed, I don’t think she would find it disrespectful that drake made a song with her…..I literally grew up listening to Aaliyah and it feels good to hear new music from her…..drake is a fan of her just like we are, he didn’t know here just like most of us complaining so who are we to say he doesn’t deserve to work with her

OAN: the song sounds amazing RIP AALIYAH

    DenimJunkieKidd Reply:

@Khalilology_603, how is it disrespectful? and what’s the difference if its a cover or not….she still used his work a man whom she never met by the way…and continued his legacy much like what drake is doing….is it that you don’t like drake so you deem his actions disrespectful?

you guys are soo confused ! you have to listen closely to understand the song , in my opinion the whole concept of the song is aaliyah and drake having a conversation ; aaliyah tells him that he can talk to her and explain his feelings and drake in his verse tries to tell her how he feels about recent things happend in his life ( chris brown, fame, fake people around ) aaliyah rensures him and says he can talk to her. i think this song is amazing and finally someone thougt of putting out something for babygirl ! yall just have to listen very closly !!

Love Aaliyah, Drake sucks. She would never allow him to cuss the way he does on her song. It’s classless and we all know she was the classiest of all R&B chicks to ever do it.

Listen.. If Missy & Timberland isn’t on the record then oh well.. They both should have been thought of doing something like this for Aaliyah after she passed. That is Drake’s idol & he wants to show his love. Tim & Missy already shared their time with Aaliyah.. Time Drake wishes he could have had.

When Aaliyah was alive she didnt have to endure all this hate she was loved by so many now we have all these stans who talk shit about other artists if they arent selling as much as there fav. Its stupid and in the end your gonna look like the fool because your not rich, your still living at your parents house and you havent accomplished anything in your life so what say do you have about singers and rapper who are living there dream? Think about it……

HIS OBSESSION WITH HER IS TOO CREEPY!!! HE DIDNT EVEN KNOW HER!!!

MISSY & TIMBALAND NEED TO STOP HIM!!!

    Timbo the king Reply:

@MmmHmm, I feel it was very disrespectful of him not to come to Missy and Timbaland and connect with them they have loved and been so close to Aaliyah and for him to do this is really a low blow. I love Aaliyah and the song is good because I get to hear Aaliyah again.

    [Reply]

    MmmHmm Reply:

@Timbo the king, I agree, he should have gone to Missy & Timbaland to get their blessing & im sure Missy & Tim would not have allowed this to be released if he did speak to them. Its good hearing her again, but I skip over his parts…i cant deal…

    [Reply]

  143. Thetruth

@Timbo the king, how do you even know that he didn’t have a conversation with Missy and Timb prior to recording this? Y’all really need to just shut up and enjoy this music! You don’t know what Aaliyah would have minded, because she’s not here and you never knew her. GOOD SONG, that’s all that matters. RIP Aaliyah!!

    [Reply]

    MmmHmm Reply:

@Thetruth, your dumbass doesnt know all the facts! Timbaland said in an interview that Drake hasnt come to him or Missy about him doing Aaliyah music! He said in his interview that it should be him & missy working w/him getting new music of aalliyah out, but he hasnt reached out to them! Get your facts together b4 you speak!

    [Reply]

    DenimJunkieKidd Reply:

@MmmHmm, that interview with the the breakfast club was months ago, you don’t know what’s transpired since then….so until they come out and say something about the song i think people just need to calm down and enjoy the fact that we have NEW aaliyah music

    [Reply]

    Creative Minds Reply:

@Thetruth, It is now 100% official that Timbaland will be producing 3 songs on Aaliyah’s Posthumous album which will be executive produced by Drake. It is reported that Aaliyahs family doesnt support it but if that was the case then Blackground records which is Aaliyahs Uncle Barry Hankersons Record label probobly wouldnt have released it. It is just common sense that Aaliyah would want all her fans and people to hear unreleased music. It has been over 10 years now so its only right. As long as the album is produced right and the material is good there shouldnt be a problem.

Okay, the song with her voice is good, Drake for me is too NOW while Aaliyah is too THEN, they don’t sync for me. And for those shading Drake and wishing death, shame on you. Yes, it feels wrong, but wishing death is some childish BS. Even when Biggie had beef with Pac he ain’t wish death because he himself said “ain’t no coming back from that.” Grow up, for real. The song is wrong but it ain’t that deep.

You guys are so dumb with your rude comments. I think drake did a good job on this song. He makes sense you guys should look on Rapgenius cause y’all are the ones who new to get a clue. & all about that Missy & Tim. They did help her and were her mentors but I think by this time she would’ve put grew them. Think about it. She out grew R. Kelly. You guys are mindless with your rudeness towards him. Just cause he didn’t know he doesn’t mean that he couldn’t be a big fan of her. He’s allowed just like how most of you guys were a fan of her. I don’t think none of you guys know her personally. & I think he did get permission. He’s not dumb enough to do a thing like that. That would be disrespectful.

    coMEaTmEbRO Reply:

@Jas, You said it best. YOU “THINK” she would have out grew Missy and Tim, but you can’t speak on where she would be today in music because she isn’t here ANYMORE! With all the drama that happend with her, R.Kelly, and the media, do you really think she would have continued to work with him? The girl had no other choice but to work with somebody else if she wanted to last in the industry.

And nope! We didn’t know her personally but does he? NO. So what’s your point?

All this trash talk about Drake producing this album, but let’s be real: Drake is current and extremely popular at the moment. He can help get this album the type of attention Timbaland can’t. This younger generation can’t really say, “Oooh! Tim!” I would like to hear what he does on one of these tracks, but it might not happen. Let’s not forget that Aaliyah’s last album had only 3 out of 15 tracks produced by Tim. The rest was by Keybeats, Bud’dah, and J. Dub.

In saying that: how about we hear the finished album when it comes out then judge if Drake was the right choice to head this project or not.

Can we all just realize that a legend was brought back to hear the sweet vocals that we all miss and may never see again…. That’s the point of the matter. Every celebrity has taken a past legend and created as their own. It may not be the best song that Aaliyah would have done if she was still here, but I love Aaliyah as if she was my sister(even though I never met her in my life) & I personally have nothing to say bad about it because Aaliyah is who I love & respect and hearing her voice makes me feel like she never left (in my heart at least).
