Kendrick Lamar goes back to school in his first video as VEVO LIFT’s featured artist. The “new King of the West Coast” roams the halls at Centennial High School in Compton, where he attended.

“This was a time period where the whole mastermind behind Section.80 began,” said the 25-year-old MC. “I really wanted to capture that and I feel like it’s an intricate, detailed story within my album good kid, m.A.A.d city.”

Kendrick, whose debut drops October 2, hated going to summer school because he knew he would have to pass through gang violence on his way home.

While he excelled in sports, his favorite subject was English. “I love to write and I think that played a big part in me becoming an artist and writing poetry down and putting it in forms of rap music,” he explained.
