New Music: Faith Evans – ‘Tears of Joy’

Tears of Joy

Faith Evans sheds “Tears of Joy” on the first single off her upcoming album R&B Divas (Prolific Music Group/eOne Music), which also serves as the companion to TV One’s new reality show of the same name. The soulful song was written and produced by Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony.

R&B’s First Lady has also contributed “Lovin’ Me” as the theme song for the series, which premieres tonight.

Before her album drops on October 2, look out for the follow-up single “Dumb,” an uptempo retro-soul record written by Evans and produced by 1500 or Nothin’ (Game, Snoop Dogg).

    I’ve always loved Faith Evans. Every album she’s put out has had consistently solid material. Maybe not always A1, but definitely always solid. I really like this! She always is able to stay true to the 90′s content she originated with while also being able to keep her music good for the current times. Kudos Ms Evans!

    @georgia23, Girl bye Faith!! You’ve been done since “I’ll Be Missing You” 1997. Nobody checkin for you anymore. You’re a tramp, who got knocked up by Tupac, I think they need to DNA test that son, she claims is Biggies. I’m sure she and her other kids & hubby are living off of her Biggie’s Estate too. Those kids will be broke by the time they’re 18, Thanks to their cocaine using Mother. Bye Faith!

    Although I love Faith Evans, I think this song is a bit too old for her. Even though she has gotten older, the retro sound is not the place to go. I notice that many of these artists that came out in the 90′s are turning to “Motown” sounding-60′s inspired songs. She should still be doing Contemporary R&B/Hip-Hop sounding stuff, for 2012.

    One prime example of someone older who has been able to remain current = MARY J BLIGE.

    But I love Faith and hope to hear more from her soon.

    @Ursula, I agree completely…Always a die hard fan. but not the direction she needs to be going in.

    @Ursula, I don’t think Faith would do well to follow Mary J’s path, especially since Mary J has had a much more consistent career. Mary J has a SOLID fanbase that supports whatever she does. Faith needs to reconnect with her fanbase and I think this is a good way to do it: Reminding people why they loved her to begin with. By SINGING! Chasing trends won’t work for her.

    @KingAquarius,

    I’m not saying she should chase trends, I would just like to see a bit more hip-hop influence to her new stuff. Afterall, the R&B/Hip-Hop fusion is where she started. I’m talking about songs like “U Gets No Love,” “U Used To Love Me,” “All Night Long,” & “Love Like This.”

    People! People! People! I’m a die hard Faith Fan to the end! What’s up to the Faithfuls! I really like this song. I think it gives us that old style Faith voice, 3 part harmonies, and churchy sound.. I do love this song and thought it was a good choice! I would agree with a couple of people who said this “retro soul” is too mature for Faith. I grudginly agree. I actually thought the same thing when faith came out with the “First Lady”, her first song was “mesmerized”, that sounded a bit too mature for Faith to me back then.. I also agree that, You gets no love, all night long,

    and several other songs she recorded were more of the direction I personally would like to see Faith focus on. The CD isn’t out yet so who knows what’s all to come. This song encourages me to believe Faith is truly working to regain her stats in the music industry.
    To all the haters- Yall need to shut the fuck up! Yall act like yall really know her and who she fucked, and who knocked her up and everything else about her, that you don’t know. Yall are nothing more than drama queens…Hell, we could mention another celeb, and yall negative souls would launch a full on attack against them too…Haters will be haters…no matter the name. Unhappy people will be unhappy in every area of life…Negative people the same…
    Oh, and to the idiots who claims Faith is spending all Biggie’s and his son’s money getting high…Don’t your retarded ass know that Faith Turned over most of all the money from Biggies estate to Biggie’s mom! And I’m sure some money is set up for his son and his daughter from another relationship… Although you haters want to down play Faith as a hoe, Faith has been nothing but outstanding in her years of mishaps. Faith handled all Biggies Estate issues for him and made sure all his affairs were handled as she knew he and his mom would wish. Keep The Faith CD, she was away for 5 years dealing with the stress, depression of his death and handling all his legal and estate issues…Then keep in mind, Faith had 2 young kids to take care of during all of this time. Faith remarried, had two more kids and his currently a mother of 4 children. Faith Still produced another CD which was the Keep The Faith CD..which went Platnium. She then too Puff to court to renegociate her contract with him and became executive producer for her Faithfully CD. Faithfully was another Platnium CD also.. Faith later ended her musical relationship with Puff and signed to Interscope (I believe) and Produced the album, “The First Lady”, that’s when we begin to notice a different sound from Faith Evans, this retro soul sound.. She was no longer with Puff, who pushed of those heavy club, hip hop bangers…which I liked for Faith..But obviously, her sound shifted some.. Then Interscope went under new management and the new management didn’t give Faith the musical attention she wanted and she ended her contract with Interscope, which left her unable to produce another album for a period of time, so she waited out the contract. During that time was when she wrote her New York Best Seller Book, Keep The Faith, where she went into almost embarassing truths about her own life and what all really did happen to her.. Her book is so truth telling you know she’s not lying and she’s not hiding much..She explained the TuPack issue, it’s in her book, you haters lame asses should read it. It made me love her even more!
    Faith’s been through alot!! She’s the only girl out of Mary J, Lil Kim, Miss Elliot, and the other celebs she was around that started a family, and who has a family with 4 kids.. Faith is the only one who has kids..So she couldn’t act, move and be true to her self, her kids and the music industry too…Something had to give..and unfortunately for many of us, it was her and her music.. But I applaud her determination to be a mother and give her kids some type of normal life.. Nobody life is perfect, and with all she’s been through, a brief period of drug use is understandable. lol! She’s back on her A game, and I hope her success chokes all you meserable jerks air supply! I believe the best is yet to come for her. Nobody can honestly hate Faith for her style, realness and trying to keep up with her family and this ever changing world. So please don’t be so hard on her…Keep The Faith!
    (please excuse any typos, I’ve been up all night and I’m not about to proof this, you know what I’m trying to say! God Bless!
