« Rap-Up TV: DJ Drama Makes ‘Quality Street Music’ with Tyler, the Creator and Kevin HartRita Ora Gets Dark and Dangerous for GQ »Alicia Keys Reveals ‘Girl on Fire’ Cover, Release Date![]() Alicia Keys embarks on the next chapter in her career with her fifth album Girl on Fire. The Grammy-winning songstress rocks short hair as she strikes a fierce pose on the black-and-white cover. Prior to the album’s release on November 27, she will debut the powerful and infectious title track and first single, “Girl on Fire,” at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on September 6. It will be available on iTunes and at radio on September 4. “Everything makes this record different. There’s not one thing that’s the same,” said Alicia of the follow-up to 2009’s The Element of Freedom. “Everything that used to be the standard for me has been removed and I have had to start from zero. I have arrived at a place in myself that I am comfortable being exactly who I am in this moment and sharing it with no reservations.” She has been in the studio with her husband Swizz Beatz, Babyface, Pop & Oak, Rico Love, Jeff Bhasker, Gary Clarke Jr., Emeli Sandé, Jamie xx, and Sevyn, who co-wrote the anthemic single “New Day.” Follow Alicia on her journey to a Girl on Fire in the video below.

@Tahir, I just don’t know about Ms. Keys. I just can’t get passed the fact that she slept with a married man. That just doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve been broken hearted before I became a lesbian and I just know how Mashonda felt. Alicia isn’t the “woman” I thought she was.

@Jasmine Matias (Women Of Hip-Hop), Boo hoo hoo, I see you’re still having your pity party. You don’t know any of them and you don’t know what is true or who did what to who or when. Anyway, only fools believe everything they hear or read on the internet and whatever she did in her personal life shouldn’t concern you this much. Looks like all have moved on, so why don’t you cut the cord?
I can’t wait for this album and the cover is beautiful and reminds me of Alicia when she first started out. I hope this is her biggest album yet.

Remember when she was a true R&B/Soul artist?
I fear she’s abandoned that and crossed over to the dark side of electro/pop-”Songs In A Minor,” “The Diary of Alicia Keys,” and “As I Am” were CLASSICS, racked up #1 hits, multiple Grammys, etc. “The Element of Freedom” is where she crossed over-and was her LEAST successful album.
Hopefully on this one she’s still her (or at least has some songs on there sounding like her old self). I will give this a chance. ONLY a chance.

@Shutterbug, Ditto. I was really into her music when the Diary came out. You dont know my name is one of my fave songs of all time, but after that album she fell off to me. After the Diary era, before AIA, she spoke about making an album that was politically charged, and instead we got AIA. If she WOULD have made that album, it could have been the “Whats Going On” of our time, and totally changed the game……sorry it didnt happen.

@Shutterbug, “The dark side of electro/pop” lol … well, that sort of music isn’t for everyone. Clearly.

@Shutterbug, I actually bought Elements of Freedom and I dont agree with you. That album did not sound like electro pop. You may want to go listen to some electro pop music and think about that. Also the album did sell over 1.3 million copies and she did pick up 2 Grammy Awards in 2011.

@DC, Which, by her standards, is a FLOP. (She’s used to much higher sales and much more Grammys)

@Shutterbug, Obviously you didnt listen to Elements of Freedom.. Alicia Keys had songs like Un-Thinkable, Doesnt Mean Anything, Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart, Put It In A Love Song, This Bed… those songs were NOT electro Pop and she did in fact stay true to her soul roots.

I, for one, love all genres of music. If it’s good music, I won’t discriminate. I didn’t particularly like “New Day,” but I believe Alicia will deliver some meaningful songs on this project.

I miss the old Alicia, the hood nappy headed one. She crossed over with her last, lost kind of her esscence, she became a homewrecker, etc. No good looks for her.
I hope this album will be bomb
